Woolly Hugs' Knitted Knockers!

This is a small project to help our friends out at the Octavia Appeal and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
We have been asked by the Octavia Appeal to help make some Knitted Knockers for the Breastfeeding and Expressing team at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Babies born with heart conditions often find breastfeeding more difficult as they do not have the energy required for it. With so many newborn babies being transferred to the Brompton, it is vital that they help support mothers with this.

Knitted Knockers help the teams teach mothers how to express and also about latching.

So, can you help us?

The knitting pattern is here on our Woolly Hugs' site

The lovely Rubycon has tested it for us and says that it takes approximately 50g (one ball) of yarn plus a little bit for the nipple.

We're suggesting any DK wool that can be machine washed.
The hospital are happy to accept any colours of your choice.

We have a small amount of donor wool available.
PM Pistey if you need donor wool and we'll get some sent to you.

Please send your Knockers flat and Pistey will happily stuff them. Smile

We could do with a handful. Grin

As ever, many thanks. Bless you... and your knockers. Thanks

I have done the breast...it isn't perfect i'm afraid. I will knit the base tomorrow and post to the usual address.
Was interesting!! Mine looks like a little hat Smile

Ooo nice comments on my knocker! Grin

I normally get my cat to model hats and scarves but I don't think I will embarrass him further with this little thing!

I've done my base and stitched it up (leaving space for pistey to stuff it Grin).

I can either put it in the post here, or wait until I'm back in the UK on 2 Feb to post it (which might be too late). Pistey let me know what's better for you my love.

Wait until you are here my lovely, thank you.

Last posting for Knitted Knockers to be the last day of January please, which is Thursday 31st

Please do send flat, save on postage and I have stuffing here, unless you have a particular desire to stuff your own knocker. Smile Grin

Huge thanks to all, and looking forward to the photos on Facebook Grin

I do not usually allow my knockers to be photographed....

Pistey - do I post the empty 'breast' and base seperate or mostly sewn on? Apologies if this has already been asked...Smile

My knocker is stripy

Report
PurpleKittyKnitting · 12/01/2013 10:56

I never thought of stripy one! I have some multi coloured wool that I didn't think would look too good.

What colours did you use?

I've done a yellow and red/brown one with a white nipple. Stripes are the in-thing for knitted knockers!

I happened to stumble across this thread and how could I resist. My knitted knocker is now sitting perkily on the bookcase waiting for its base to be sewn on. What will the neighbours say Shock

I will PM to get the posting details soon as DS thinks it is a teddy bear's hat and has her eye on it.

I have knitted 3 different things today!

Finished off a knitted knocker, started some socks for my mum and my cardigan!

Think I will work on socks and cardigan tomorrow, knockers during the week at work, my mum will bring hers over next Sunday and they are ready to go!!

I have finished my knocker...and I am afraid it leaves a lot to be desired (art imitating life anyone??)..
I shall post it but will be perfectly shocked if it is usable. I don't even know why it isn't right?? Confused

Knocker knitted and stuffed as I had some stuffing. I will post it with my squares for Lemon once the pesky ends are sewn in. I'll get to the post office this week (Snowmaggedon permitting)

I'll try to put a picture on my profile Grin

Thank you

Truth be told I'm a little intimidated by it... Grin

I think I have some wool a similar colour you used for the nipple, and I have some peach that would probably be enough for the main bit. Will see what they look like together tomorrow.

I think these are a good beginner project! No increasing, only easy decreasing, and it is helping out people!
