I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

If I make a batch of primroses (as I already have the right yellow from Hug donations) shall I stick them in loose with my squares for embellishments?

Or I can make plain squares and put them on.

Bless her heart, I am honoured to be helping make this for Cup, she and her family have touched the lives of so many. I am so glad that we can now all come together and do this for her to show our love and support. The response has been quite extraordinary. But that is rightly so, she is quite an extraordinary person. I feel confident she will feel the outpouring of love from her woolly hug. Bless her heart indeed. X

Thank you, just replying to all PMs, welcome to those joining us, we are so glad to have you on board Thanks

Knotty, perfect. They're easy to do as a break from frogging my nemesis cream square :o

droitwitchymummy · 26/10/2012 08:10

Morning knotty. Brew

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:10

I love this thread although I wish it did not have to exist. I can almost hear the needles clicking (is that what they do?). The love and support for the Teaset is palpable.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 08:11

I've made one daisy Smile

SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 08:12

I have plans to create a bee similar to the bear/owl squares I've done before.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 08:13

I've only done one too, Pistey - I think it took longer to faff about with the ends then it did to make the actual daisy!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 08:13

Soupy - that will be adorable X

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:13

Soupy, that would be perfect. I have a little dark brown I can send you if you need it.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 08:14

Yes it did!

SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 08:14

Knotty - should I leave the last yellow tail long on the primroses for sewing on?

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:14

Saffron, I totally agree with you.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 08:15

I'm pretty sure I have a brown - I can't remember which of the two original brands it is but it was called Truffle!

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:15

Yes please, Soupy. Long ends make life easier fir flowers.

But! For squares, can everyone sew those pesky ends in , pretty please Smile

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 08:17

I wish I'd thought about it when finishing off the daisy :o

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:19

Tbh I probably have little bits of nearly every colour here so I can stitch things on if necessary.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 08:20

You mentioning Truffle has made me want chocolate now.

bigsnugglebunny · 26/10/2012 09:30

I've ordered the wool, so as soon as it arrives I'll start knitting. Stocking stitch squares will probably be what I'll send, as I'm still quite new to this knitting malarky. Smile
