I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

I can't knit (yet!) so have made a donation via Woolly Hugs website. I am so sad to read about Beatrice, whose story has touched me deeply. Sent with love xx

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2012 16:00

Where are you, starlight? There may be a mumsnetters near you who would teach you to knit - I will, if you are in the Glasgow area. Or you could look for a local knitting group, and see if they will, help you.

Right, I've placed my order for wool so needles will get klicking whenever it arrives.
Do please expect plain sqaure/s from me...

The Wolly Hugs threads have often reduced me to tears and I feel a sense of relief to have finally committed to one.
It is just so heartbreakingly sad that a blanket is needed with such regularity Sad.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/10/2012 17:05

Bless you Pacific, we are very glad to have you on board Thanks

And we have more donors to thank this afternoon, your donations have arrived safely and we give you our sincere heartfelt thanks - I know I have already said this today, but it just needs reiterating, you have enabled someone to take part who otherwise maybe couldn't. That is a fabulously generous thing to do. We are so glad to have you with us. Thanks

Thanks ticklymyboobsofsteel

Starlight I learned fro. You tube and these lovely ladies. If I can do it anyone can!

droitwitchymummy · 25/10/2012 17:25

I love my donors! I always knit with them in mind. Some have also put in 'requests' which are great (and they encourage me to knit things I wouldn't usually attempt)
Thanks

GleamingHeels · 25/10/2012 17:40

I'm in, have PM'd Pistey and had a reply really quickly, have ordered wool, am borrowing needles from my mother as I have just moved house and everything is still in boxes. I am determined to make squares though, Beatrice, Cup, Mr Cup and the lovely girls who form the Teaset have totally touched my heart.

Butterflies might also be a suggested pattern as that's how Mr Cup referred to Bea on Twitter when he told us that she had died

It was a nice break from the 4 times I've frogged the square I was trying to make :o

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 25/10/2012 22:36

outtolunchagain · 25/10/2012 23:01

That Daisy is lovely , it really looks a bit like a Primrose as well . I wish I could crochet but will stick to the knitting I think there are others much more capable on the flower front.

missnevermind · 25/10/2012 23:18

I will PM you Pistey. I can knit squares.

I am knitting my own daughter a patchwork blanket for her cot, she is 2 months older than Bea.
I have tears in my squares tonight.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2012 07:59

For Beatrice's bunting, I made these primroses - just the flower and with no beads. They were really easy too.
