I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 11:04

And so the wool arrives with crafters Smile Fantastic news, well done the donors Thanks

PacificDogwood · 26/10/2012 11:21

Morning, all! Still waiting for my wool...

Cup, participating in this blanket is, in part, a way to relieve my helplessness in making anything better for you, my love Sad.
Honoured - ha! How I wish that particular honour were not necessary...

PacificDogwood · 26/10/2012 11:21

Oh, and great daisies - they do look like Primroses Smile

HaveToWearHeels · 26/10/2012 11:47

can I just ask, if I am knitting daisies shall i do the "white" of the daisy in cream or can I use white ?

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 26/10/2012 12:05

My lovely wool just arrived from RatherBeOnThePiste Thanks Smile

Can't wait to get started now

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 12:15

We can cope with a daisy or two in White but need to be careful so as not to let it make the cream look dirty iyswim

OP posts:
HaveToWearHeels · 26/10/2012 12:39

I will stick to cream then, might look softer anyway.

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 12:43

Thanks Smile

Some lovely 'sky pink' wool just came through my letterbox, many thanks to my donor x

HaveToWearHeels · 26/10/2012 14:59

BIG THUMBS UP FOR JOHN LEWIS.

Just went into my local store to buy some wool, I had set my heart on pink for little Bea. I was rooting around and found two balls at the back of the cubby hole. Went to the till to pay, happy to have have pink wool, even if the band was hanging off. Lady instantly reduced it from £5.50 to £3 without me even asking. Maybe she knew it was for a precious project.

AnathemaDevice · 26/10/2012 15:18

My wool arrived today, thank you to my donor, whovever you are. You've picked such lovely colours.

I will start on my squares tonight, thinking of Bea as I work.

MOSagain · 26/10/2012 15:24

I've bought the wool for Bea's square and finished the square I was doing for the mini hug but just can't seem to start this one. I suppose starting it makes it more real if that makes sense? Sad

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 15:33

It does, MOS Sad

But I know that every stitch you do will be made thinking of Bea and Cup, and made with love.

Have PMed you, Pistey. I will need some wool but would love to crochet some squares. X

AnnaKissed · 26/10/2012 16:45

Waiting for my wool to reach me out here in the middle east... Exciting!

How does it work, do I just knit what I fancy within the guidelines in the OP? I'd like to have a go at a flower from the patterns on the websites.

AnnaKissed · 26/10/2012 16:47

Sorry "exciting" is the wrong word to use - insensitive of me. I'm just honoured to be part of a community that does things like this.

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 16:48

That's exactly how it works, Anna. The ideas in the Op are there because those motifs are symbolic to the family. The crafting guide patterns are there to support our crafters. You can make whatever you like really Smile

KnottyLocks · 26/10/2012 16:49

Within reason obviously Smile

I came across this today....
' When it seems that our sorrow is too great to be bourne,
Let us think of the great family of heavy-hearted
into which our grief has given us entrance, and inevitably,
we will feel about us their arms, their empathy, their understanding and their love.'

Helen Keller

Every stich is a stitch of love.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 17:42
