I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

GlaikitFizzog · 06/11/2012 18:38

Thank you pistey! I'm going on the hunt for my needle tonight. I fear it's down in the bowels of the sofa! I may be sometime!

Just be thankful it wasn't one of my multicolours stripy ones with dozens of ends!! :o

PacificDogwood · 06/11/2012 18:48

Right, good evening, all - wow, your sqaures sound amazing.
I think my main contribution will be to make your sqaures look all the more amazing next to my solid coloured ones Grin.

I'll try and get to the post office tomorrow, Pistey.

PurplePidjin · 06/11/2012 19:07

That's precisely the reason we need plain ones, Pacific - can you imagine how headache-inducing a blanket made of all fancy squares would be? Woolly Hugs are tasteful and refined :o

SoupDragon · 06/11/2012 19:31

Not sure any of my squares were tasteful and refined :o

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 06/11/2012 20:13

My squares should hit the post tomorrow. 3 green squares all just plain knit in different stitches, the last square was a little tight for wool lengthwise but easily stretches to 6in so I am crossing my fingers it's OK.

KnottyLocks · 06/11/2012 22:25

If it stretches to six inches, tis all good. Worry not Smile

My squares are done. Just need to sew in those pesky ends. Off to find out how to do that!

Will hopefully get that done tomorrow and get them in the post.

Trazzletoes · 07/11/2012 01:43

Pacific I'm joining your club. I've managed one square so far. It is very plain and streeeeeeeeetches to 6" and isn't quite finished yet but it's very much a labour of love. I'm hoping cup won't notice the funny edges where I seem to have added several stitches. I'm sure cup will just be grateful for the thought and effort.

KnottyLocks · 07/11/2012 06:58

Splodging in With a big hug Smile

If your square stretches to 6 inches, that's fine. Now don't you worry about the edges as they get covered by the crochet seam used to hook the blankets together, so they won't be seen. Crochet is magic Smile

The true value of the blanket squares is in the thought and love gone into them. So your square is perfect. Smile

Morning all Woollies Brew Smile

Trazzle - every square made with love and thought is very precious and special indeed, it will be absolutely lovely, of that there is no doubt. And all edges magically disappear into the double crochet which attaches them together. Tis all good [ThumbsUp]

Fizzy - you find that needle!!

Hope you feel better soon Smile

droitwichmummy · 07/11/2012 08:20

It's ok I have a stash of hot chocolate in my drawer at work. Nice quiet training day today Smile

lia66 · 07/11/2012 10:42

I haven't received my donor wool yet Sad

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/11/2012 10:49

There have been all sorts of problems lia. But don't worry Smile

It isn't only you, but what I shall do is send some of our stash to everyone affected. I was just about to double check with you all, so thank you for saving me a job. I have your address. Hopefully it will arrive at yours tomorrow Thanks

ouryve · 07/11/2012 13:17

Well, poorly finger aside, I finished my fiddly droplets square, today. I hope it doesn't grow with washing, since it's a slightly generous 6". Makes up for my checkerboard pattern one which was a slightly stingy 6"

The droplet square was quite yarn hungry, but I have enough left on the ball for a lacy one. Time to scour ravelry for inspiration....

lia66 · 07/11/2012 13:19

lovely, thank you. My friend taught me to crochet yesterday so I might do a couple of knitted and crocheted. eek x

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/11/2012 16:04

Lovely lia - I'm off to the post office now, for you and a couple of others, apologies no chocolate, not even a crunchie sorry Smile

Sounds lovely ouryve, well apart from the sore finger.....
