I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Job done [smug] and Star Bar scoffed - it is obligatory to buy treats when one visits the Post Office. I feel it is important to support local businesses.

Hopefully everything will survive the journey... especially one item that wasn't a piece of cake to wrap Wink

Muttermuttergrumble. Was hoping to get back into my second square with the boys safely back at school. Once I'd found the floor and vacuumed it, that was - I really was looking forward to working in a tranquil, clean tidy(ish) room. Only I realised while I was vacuuming that I've done something horrible to my little finger and it's all bruised, swollen, stiff and very tender.

I declare housework officially dangerous and detrimental to productive knitting time. :(

tribpot · 05/11/2012 19:21

ouryve, a lesson to us all here :( Knitting first, hoovering a distant second.

I've mentioned this quote from Mother Theresa on another Woolly Hugs thread before - "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies". This small thing is something tangible we can do to let Cup and 5boys and the other bereaved families know that we are giving strength to them in the hope it might help them.

Somersaults · 05/11/2012 20:03

Pistey I will find the Ravelry links to those patterns. Should I pm them to you? Also if you still have the envelope my squares came in there were three big butterflies and one tiny one so you might have left the tiny one in the envelope by mistake.

fanjodisfunction · 05/11/2012 20:55

Has anyone ordered wool from amazon, from a seller called Minerva crafts and fabric. It was supposed to have arrived today.

tribpot · 05/11/2012 20:57

I've bought from Minerva in the past - needles and things. No problems to report.

fanjodisfunction · 05/11/2012 21:00

trib cheers maybe it will appear tomorrow. (Really hope so)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/11/2012 21:22

You are right Somersaults, little teeny pink and purple was still hiding in the envelope. So cute! Thanks

Mermaidspam · 05/11/2012 22:13

ExitPursuedByABanger Thanks Thanks Thanks

You are as lovely as this delicious wool Grin

ExitPursuedByABanger · 05/11/2012 22:42

Squeee - lurking butterflies.

You are all so clever.

Somersaults · 05/11/2012 23:30

Pistey, could you let me know if you to the pm about patterns please? I'm not sure it actually sent or not (due to my own ineptitude, not the MN pm glitches!)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/11/2012 07:02

Morning all Brew

Thanks Somersaults - it is all perfect, thank you, I can link your two onto the crafting guide. If anyone would like to have a looky now, here they are..

Yarn Clouds design

and

Butterfly garden

Off to PMs thank you Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/11/2012 09:07

Am on the hunt now for the butterflies you made Somersaults - is there a linky for those? Thanks

ouryve · 06/11/2012 11:33

Yep - the floor is covered with crumbs today, but I managed to add an inch to my square before it got too uncomfortable.

If ever anyone tries to suggest that little fingers aren't much use, they're very, very wrong.

ouryve · 06/11/2012 11:36

Oh, they're rather lovely, Pistey.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/11/2012 12:34

I am assuming we send the squares for cup and mumto5boys to you, as usual, Pistey?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/11/2012 12:46

Yes please lovely Xx

PurpleFrog · 06/11/2012 14:53

I finished my teacup square this morning before work. I discovered last night I had repeated two lines of the pattern in the middle so had to frog it. There was no chart, so I must have lost my place at some point. Doh! Anyway, it is done now. I think it would have looked better in a lighter colour, but I didn't have any in any of the correct yarns

I really will have to start finishing some of the stuff I have in the pipeline. For some reason I find it very easy to find some time to knit or crochet, but sewing-up and sewing in ends is another matter! Blush

If I get my skates on I can kill three birds with one stone!
[Or rather... some Yorkhill craft contributions, two squares for cup and one mini hug in a £2.20 small packet!] Grin
