Following on from our previous support thread please check in here if there's any help, particularly (but not exclusively) knitting help, you need for the squares for 3girlies, who sadly lost her beloved 6-year-old dd Flora recently.

The details of the blanket project are here and it directs you to the Crafting Guide on Woolly Hugs, with specific sections for crocheters and knitters. I am still maintaining the original document mostly because I haven't got around to separating out the stuff that's already on Woolly Hugs now from the newer suggestions we've had in the last few weeks. So please, by all means do send me suggestions for new patterns or ideas.

For those of you on Ravelry and participating in the Ravellenic games, I think squares could be entered under a number of categories such as balance beads, doubleknit boxing, lace longjump among possibly some others.

Oooh that's lovely Trib.

MinnieBar · 26/08/2012 19:07

Nothing to add, just marking my place!

GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2012 14:02

Afternoon Wine

tribpot · 27/08/2012 14:06

Afternoon wine, Glaikit?? Are you pretending to be in France? Wink

Btw, I'm sure your square will be fine once it'd been pulled into position by the others. I wonder if Knotty and Pistey would know if you blocked it a little :)

Our ma cherie!

I need it! I tried to do the fairisle hearts prettybird sent me from the chart, but even clap ever blocking wouldnt make them look like hearts. The look a bit like squashed strawberries.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2012 14:25

Oui and clever Grin

tribpot · 27/08/2012 14:32

Ah, zut alors! Perfectly acceptable in that case. Is this your first go at fairisle, or shall we blame bird's pattern?

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2012 14:37

Well apart from that flash one you let me borrow, this is my first. And I only have the chart to work from here

tribpot · 27/08/2012 14:40

Oh, cute. So what's gone wrong. Is the yarn pulling too tightly behind the work?

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2012 14:51

Not sure, I think I lost my place repeated a row or missed a row. Frogged it, will start again.

tribpot · 27/08/2012 14:53

Sounds obvious but you can usually tell where you are just by counting the number of stitches of each colour.

prettybird · 27/08/2012 16:29

Oi - no blaming of my pattern! Grin

I agree with trib - could also be a function of pulling the wool too tightly at the back. I think I learnt "insitinctively" becasue my first fairisle Icelandic pattern was in the round so it was easier just to keep going.

Once you've got used to the pattern it is relatively easy to see where you are. However, the fact that it is a pattern designed to be done in the round means that you need to concentrate and remember if you are going from left to right or right to left.

tribpot · 27/08/2012 16:41

Heh, just checking you were still there, bird Wink

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2012 17:10

Oh god, not blaming the pattern at all bird, honest.

I have given up on it for now as ds is a snot monster again and demanding snuggles. Will pick it up again when he goes to bed.

Evening all, I fell off the thread once my holiday ended. Glad I have found you again!

I'm paying a flying visit to the UK next week so will post my squares to pistey then.

I was mulling over what to do with the squares I made on holiday in horrible squeaky acrylic and garish colours and have decided to make them into a small holiday blanket. It will be 5 x 6 squares, and I thought I'd do a few rows of granny crochet for the border to use up the spare wool.

I have so enjoyed getting back to the Debbie Bliss.

PurplePidjin · 28/08/2012 07:54

Shredded, that sounds like a Lapghan to me Wink Glad you had a good time :)

prettybird · 28/08/2012 10:19

I knitted a shrug for my SIL in acrylic as it was the only wool I could find that had the same "tension" descriptions. It was early on in my renewed knitting career, so I didn't have the confidence to adapt the wool/needle size (and the lady in JL wasn't much help). Never again. I hated the feel of it and I was glad to get finished.

Unfortunately I have a giant ball of wool left Hmm

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 28/08/2012 12:43

Pidj, like it (though it took me a little while to work out!).

What colour/weight is your "wool" bird? I could maybe take it off your hands Smile.

GlaikitFizzog · 28/08/2012 13:37

Ooooohhh, belated birthday present arrived today from my friend.

book 1

book 2

I am insanely excited!! Want to start knitting now, but I have to go back to work, boo!

MinnieBar · 28/08/2012 17:55

What a lovely friend Glaikit!

I have decided that I'm going to avoid patterns with yarn overs in from now on - due to my sloppy tension they just end up as yawning-chasm overs and look a bit shite.

Plus I've suddenly realised that the deadline is really close so I'd better do something pretty damn simple Grin

prettybird · 28/08/2012 21:44

NeitherShredded - I've of already promised it to SDTG. (It's a sort of dark pink).

My entrelac is proceeding slowly - as can be seen here Think it will end up being a bit too long, but can't work out how to "stop" it early.

stressedHEmum · 28/08/2012 23:40

Sorry, squares might be a bit late for this. ME has been really bad, have been bedridden for a while and have been in hospital because I got stung by a wasp (am anaphylactic.)

Will get them off as soon as I can.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 28/08/2012 23:44

Wow - very nice entrelac prettybird. Dark pink sounds far too nice to go in my Lapghan Grin

stressedHEmum - hope you feel better soon.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 28/08/2012 23:45

Glaikit - I wish i hadn't clicked on your links. They are lovely books and I am Envy!

BarbaraWoodlouseGoesForGold · 28/08/2012 23:51

Hope you're feeling better StressedHEmum, sounds like a tough few weeks Sad.

I think I'm only going to have one speckled rib (my very very favourite plain and essential as it's soo snuggly in our lovely soft wool). I have otherwise mostly been trying to crochet. So far I've managed a slightly misshapen granny square. I love the name as my (in no way misshapen Grin) Granny taught me to knit in the first place and was also a very talented crocheter. I think she'd be pleased I've gone back to it all.

Having my eyes lasered on Friday [gulp] so that will be it for me square-wise I think. May not even be able to MN for a day or so Shock
