Following on from our previous support thread please check in here if there's any help, particularly (but not exclusively) knitting help, you need for the squares for 3girlies, who sadly lost her beloved 6-year-old dd Flora recently.

The details of the blanket project are here and it directs you to the Crafting Guide on Woolly Hugs, with specific sections for crocheters and knitters. I am still maintaining the original document mostly because I haven't got around to separating out the stuff that's already on Woolly Hugs now from the newer suggestions we've had in the last few weeks. So please, by all means do send me suggestions for new patterns or ideas.

For those of you on Ravelry and participating in the Ravellenic games, I think squares could be entered under a number of categories such as balance beads, doubleknit boxing, lace longjump among possibly some others.

knitting at the Hairdresser again. get me!

tribpot · 18/08/2012 11:11

Not quite so impressive but I've been knitting whilst Skyping with someone in the hinterlands of Queensland! (Someone I know, not a random person who happens to live there!) Nearest petrol station: 50km but broadband working a treat, amazing!

I'm back to working on my blanket for a work friend who is due next month and I must say it's very hard to go back to 'lesser yarns' after the cashmere fest of the Woolly Hugs.

have you had a go at the icord border yet trib? I'm no further forward yet.

tribpot · 18/08/2012 11:26

Ooh nuts, I forgot to do that, Glaikit. I can't remember what problem you were having, but I guess it's on the previous thread? I'll go have a look.

Right, I've found your post on it:

The invisible cast on, confused me to start with, then for some unknown reason the colour from my picked up stitches was showing through the border and I don't think that's right

The invisible cast on means when you get all the way round to the beginning again you can graft the final stitches to the first and it will appear seamless. Personally I doubt strong anyone is going to care about a seam so I'll concentrate on the second problem first.

Thank you Trib! I have until 22nd of September to get it done!

lentilweavinghippy · 20/08/2012 08:14

My slightly wonky lovingly crafted squares are going in the post today Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/08/2012 08:15

They will be warmly welcomed lentil Thanks

Really pleased with these two: they are the first ones in a while that have no mistakes! and I only had to tink two rows in the lace one

And yes, I know that I'm usually the only one who will notice the mistakes - but it gives me confidence that my knitting is improving! :)

prettybird · 20/08/2012 17:18

Meant to say that the smocking was ridiculously easy and amazingly effective. :)

Somersaults · 20/08/2012 18:05

They're lovely Prettybird :)

Here are my finished squares for the blanket. Major props to everyone on here who helped me with my beginner efforts at crochet over the last couple of weeks, I'm really proud of the squares I've managed to make considering I was a total beginner a couple of weeks ago andi couldn't have done it without help and support from people on here so thank you all very, very much Thanks I've been inspired to crochet a soft toy cat for DD next.

PurplePidjin · 20/08/2012 21:53

Fabulous Thanks

SoupDragon · 21/08/2012 11:00

Lovely! :)

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/08/2012 09:58

Hello ladies,

Do we currently have an end date for these squares, please? I have been away for over a week and haven't done anything so I hope I am not too late.

Apologies if the thread says somewhere but I have only had time for a quck scan and I can't see anything.

Thanks x

Tis Monday 3rd September PKK, which feels aaaaaaages away, but I am sure will come round quickly enough. That's last posting btw.

HairyPotter · 22/08/2012 13:57

Im very late to the thread as usual all the squares look incredible! I am Envy

My wool finally turned up today, ordered it last Wednesday fron fingers and thumbs. Haven't used them before but delivery was very slow compared to Deramores. My silver wool looks very blue though, im a bit disappointed tbh.

Any recommendations for lovely silver woolliness?

On a more positive note, I found the stitch library that one of the lovely ladies at the Glasgow meet up recommended for, drum roll... 89p on amazon Grin

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/08/2012 17:01

Thanks Soupdragon. Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/08/2012 17:28

Hairy - I think Rowan Cashsoft mist is a lovely silver, tis the one Knots used to hook together the Anthony Nolan charity blanket, maybe have a look at the pics on the website of it in action? Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 22/08/2012 19:24

Not the knitters bible stitch library Hairy Shock

Do the Scottish contingent fancy another meet up? I might get some actual knitting done if we have another one!!

HairyPotter · 22/08/2012 19:55

Ooops, was talking mince! Just checked and it's the harmony guide to knitting stitches. I took pictures of all the books everyone brought along and have been trawling amazon for good deals. Nearly fell off my chair when I saw how deliciously cheap it was. not that it's here yet mind you

Definitely up for another Glasgow meet up Grin let me know where and when.

Pistey that looks much nicer. Have bookmarked it for the next time Sad

prettybird · 23/08/2012 12:33

Another Glasgow meetup sounds good. Weekday or weekend?

tribpot · 24/08/2012 08:44

Just checking in so I can come back to this thread later and see what I'm meant to be doing :) I've been down in London for 2 days so had to put down my own blanket projects (actual blanket-sized projects) as too big to carry on the train. I'm just doing another Baby Surprise Jacket in the meantime ..

GlaikitFizzog · 24/08/2012 09:12

If a weekday I can only do Monday's and Friday's, but a weekend is fine too. Would we just go to the tramway again?

I've just done my very first pair of booties and I've started on a gnome hat for a friend having a baby soon. how easy are your surprise jackets Trib? Easy enough for someone who so far can only knit in squares and straight lines?
