Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

It does look as if Bicester Wools may have had a problem too - and the Irish Knitters group is reporting a problem, so I suspect you are double-jinxed, soremummy! I'll post on the BRE board as there's no official KnitPro group.

soremummy · 21/07/2012 22:11

Definately double jinked :)

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 22/07/2012 07:28

I took off a few days from knitting, but last night I did a nice double moss stitch. I am pleased with it.

Evening all, I have had a productive weekend. But a question for more experienced knitters, if you don't mind. I made the mock cable square from this link, and very pretty it is too. I tried it a week or two ago with 37 stitches (it needs to be multiples of 5 + 2, and it was very narrow, so I tried again with 42. After an inch or so it was coming out at 6 inches wide, but the further I've gone along the narrower it has got Sad. It will stretch to 6 inches wide without being pulled really hard (and that way you can see the purls in between as as well as the cables). Am I going to have to re-do it with even more stitches I think I can guess the answer but hope I am wrong?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 22/07/2012 22:12

I've also done the little shells and a fleck stitch square from the same link, and the boat from trib's crafters guide. I'm now making this lighthouse for DS2. I've also taught him to knit, and he's making a scarf for his teddy Grin.

Do you want to see it Puddles? Tis pretty. I did an angel tonight. I am pleased with it. It makes up for the rubbish ballet dancer.

Me too!

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 22/07/2012 23:02

I am loading them now - don't get excited, I'm a rubbish knitter. Your's will no doubt be much better than mine :)

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 22/07/2012 23:17

Okay - all my recent ones are there, even the bloody ballet dancer. No pointing and laughing out loud

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 22/07/2012 23:21

Dances is a fab knitter, I won't hear otherwise! Her herringbone stitch makes me Envy

Am trying to sort out flickr, will someone check if this link works please? It's what I've done so far for the latest blankets :)

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 22/07/2012 23:25

Thank untidy - although you know full well the herringbone is an accident :)

Your linky is working perfectly ,and they are all lovely, although I like the rosebud best :)

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 22/07/2012 23:25

The link works, Formerly, and your work is lovely!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 22/07/2012 23:27

I do know that Wink Still think it's cool

Yeah I love the little rose bud, I couldn't find a pattern anywhere so I just made it up as I went along, so am extra proud :o

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 22/07/2012 23:28

Thanks Shredded Blush

Bluebell99 · 22/07/2012 23:30

Formerlytitleduntidy - just checked, your link worked, your squares are amazing :)

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 22/07/2012 23:39

Thanks Bluebell Blush

Am putting up the ones I first did, before I figured out I'm much better at crochet than knitting Blush

Bluebell99 · 22/07/2012 23:48

I wish I could crochet Formerlytitleduntidy. They look fab. I did try a couple of months ago but ended up with just a tight mess :(. My knitting is of a much higher standard so think I should concentrate on knitting. My mum taught me to knit but not crochet. I tried to get my friend to show me but it didn't end well.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 23/07/2012 00:01

I have run out of wool with 4 rows to go of my lighthouse Sad Angry

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 23/07/2012 00:14

The lighthouse is no more Sad. I tried doing the last few rows in another shade of blue, but I could hear my dear late Grandmother (who was a wonderful knitter and taught me lots as a child) telling me that if it wasn't worth doing properly, it wasn't worth doing at all...I've worked out how to take 4 rows off the bottom, I kept going after my last post and was only a row off finishing grrrr

BarbaraWoodlouseAspiringHooker · 23/07/2012 10:49

Must have been the Night of the Frog Shredded, I finally admitted to myself that I wasn't happy with the fact that my blue "Christmas Stars" was at least 6.5 inches wide (more if remotely stretched) and I just wasn't proud enough of it to send. 'Tis no more.

On a positive note, I love my other little hearts square in gorgeous warm purple. Smile

Think I'm going to re-use the blue for a "Snowdrop Lace".

Too late for the lighthouse, I realise but next time, why not shout out on here if you're short of a tiny bit of wool. Chances are someone might have some left over bits that they might be able to send you?
