Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

Yup Shredded, it's about 160 stitches wide so you'd not be wanting to do it on a couple of straight needles (although people do). On a circular, especially with lovely lovely cubics needles that haven't yet broken unlike soremummy's, it's fine.

I've rang them tribpot and they told me just call in and they will swap needle for me oh and they have 5mm in stock just thought I'd ask it would be a shame just to go and collect one needle:)

Oh hurrah soremummy! BRE strikes again! I will be in tomorrow afternoon doing a Knitting with Lace workshop (actually the workshop is above the yummy Salvos) and of course being distraught they don't have the 5.5s in I need for the cardigan I'm doing at the moment as well.

Headingley on a Saturday lunchtime is probably not the ideal venue for a catch-up but if anyone did want to meet up, just shout!

I'm gonna cry..... I changed my cubics today and just cast on then knit about 10 stitches and it's broken again!!! It's not fair
Well done on your prize I'm off to sulk

tribpot · 21/07/2012 21:03

soremummy .. do you know - I've just broken one too Shock but I think mine is down to ds having leapt on to the bed earlier! I've got DH to glue mine but this is so weird, why are they breaking? Was it right down at the end near the metal?

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 21/07/2012 21:17

Lots of homemade cake at the end, of course!

Are you sure there's not a manufacturing fault? Knitting needles should be tougher than that...

soremummy · 21/07/2012 21:20

Exactly where the metal is bonded onto the needle and I'm not a tight knitter either in fact I'm gonn take them back with knitting on the needles so they can see that it's not me knitting too tight. I bought 2 cords aswell so I'm peeved to say the least £6.20 for needle tips they shouldn't break yes maybe fault one pair but 2? And you said yours broke I doubt it was your little lads fault though dont go shouting at him x

tribpot · 21/07/2012 21:24

No no - it's my fault for having left the knitting on the bed Confused I might let them know too, it sounds like they've got a duff batch :(

Purple if I find who manufacters them I am gonna email anyone want the challenge of finding details for me? I stupidity gave my dd my short 4mm needles and I can't cope with ling needles so I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and the wine bottle lid lol I'm bored now

PurplePidjin · 21/07/2012 21:24

Anyone a knitter and on Ravelry, might be worth a thread to see how many people have the same problem

soremummy · 21/07/2012 21:26

I obviously can't spell tonight either!! Trib I definately think it's a manufacturing problem

soremummy · 21/07/2012 21:27

Trib I'm on ravelry but I'm technophobic /aka too old to learn new things anychance you can find out if probs with other ravelry users?? Thanks x
