We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

why shucks Blush

I think Pistey's photography does them blobbles great favours!

I'd like to say it was all my own work (so not even sure I can TM the blobbles), but it was from a book called Fun and Funky Crochet and is meant as a fun pocket embellishment for your favourite jeans Hmm. Not sure about that, but it's great as a blanket square.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/07/2012 16:35

Love the yarn bombing pistey Grin

I do not have the nerve...or the imagination!

blobbles dead easy, a row of trebles and a row of doubles, with the blobbles formed by lots of half trebles into the same stitch. Much easier than knitted blobbles, which looks like scraggy mistakey bits when I do them Confused

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/07/2012 16:47

Daisy - I've just bought the book! Thanks for the link! :) it will be my first non-Internet craft book! Not sure about the pocket for jeans tho!?! It does make a lovely blanket square! Perhaps a snuggly scarf...

nickelbarapasaurus · 04/07/2012 17:31

I used to have that book - I lent it to my friend and let her keep it.
I bought it from a bookshop, though, not from amazon.... Wink

nickelbarapasaurus · 04/07/2012 17:31

that's where i learnt to do bobbling, too!

Eskarina · 05/07/2012 16:22

Thanks pistey, you are indeed very kind Thanks

greengoose · 05/07/2012 17:33

Thanks for the thoughts ladies! To answer......My DS dropped a rock on his hand at the beach and shattered a bone and needed surgery to repair. He can't go on summer camp or swim all summer probably, so a bit crap, but he is being a hero about it. Scary at the time though ( horrid being back in hospital...his little brother was terrified for him).

Hope my squares arrive soon...

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 05/07/2012 17:45

I sent mine to Knotty - was I supposed to send them to Pistey? Have I buggered messed up the location as well as sending them 3 days late AND missing the initial blanket call in the first place? [irritated with self emoticon]

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/07/2012 17:52

Oh greengoose my lovely, that must have been horrid to be back in hospital, big hug for you, and no wonder his little brother was afraid, but so glad he is on the mend. But you are right, that is a bit crap.

Now I did know of someone who had a special plastic thing for their son's cast so he could at least splash in a pool, I'll see if I can find out, if I can I will PM you X

They are going to Knots, all is well Dances, it's just that some have come here, but that is not a problem X

mothmagnet · 05/07/2012 17:57

My wool arrived today!!! Smile Such a lovely colour, it's perfect.
Thanks so much to my brilliant and generous donor Thanks

I won't be able to start until the weekend, sorry. Will send on Monday. I'm glad the other squares have arrived, phew!

mothmagnet · 05/07/2012 17:59

Greengoose, I hope your ds is ok and the accident won't spoil his summer. It must have been painful, poor thing.
