Blanket for Matildawormwood: Sign up thread for crafters and donors.

We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/07/2012 18:37

Grin at the Woolly Hugs Singing Trio (TM, patent pending)

Evening Wine

More lovely woolly treasure arriving safely here too...

Thanks Glaikit : A beautiful boat knit and pink snuggly knit, smashing Star

Thanks lackaDAISYcal : It's a pleasure to have you Smile Gorgeous textured squares, the bobbly square is absolutely lovely. Star

Is that how one spells bobbly?
Bobberly, bobbley, bobbely, Daisy called it blobby , but when does a blob became a bobble?

I need to get out more

We will make sure the card gets to Matilda X

Thanks
LackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2012 23:26

Did I send my squares to the right place? Should they have gone to knotty?

I love that blobby bobbly one. I can see a big tote bag covered in bobbly goodness coming on. I have yards and yards of wool bought for a project that never quite got off the ground that would be perfect. I may even felt it as well!

LackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2012 23:29

Do you think Tech would do us a star emoticon?

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 04/07/2012 06:40

Right after the sarcasm, irony and condescension emoticon I've been begging for for years? Grin

KnottyLocks · 04/07/2012 06:57

Oh Daisy, we really tried to persuade them to have a Star ,We even had a whole thread in Site about it Grin but I think many thought it was a bit sparkly tickers for here. However, the Thanks appeared shortly after... Partly due to our bugging the life out of MNHQ for the need for a positive emoticon to thank people.

Being somewhat stubborn, (see above Grin ) we've hung on to our Star though. I think you'll only see it on the blanket threads. We still feel that anyone taking part in these projects is a complete Star so will always use it Smile

Daisy - I absolutely love the blobby bobbly on, I just want to hold it, it is just so glorious, and you said about the colours, well they suit perfectly. And really don't worry it will get to Knots safely X

LackaDAISYcal · 04/07/2012 11:26

Grin pistey Thanks

My children are going to be dripping crochet blobbles [TM patent pending] everywhere they go I think!

Shame about the Star :(

PS how do I get a little TM sign?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/07/2012 12:12

Daisy - blobbles sound lovely! I'm thinking about a winter hat for dd (given up on summer) do you have a pic/ link for it? :)

I agree we should have a Star - it doesn't have to sparkle or anything netmums-ish

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 14:36

Daisy and Sleepytime Shall I stick a photo on my profile of the crochet blobbles? [TM patent pending]

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/07/2012 14:51

Ooooh pistey that'd be great - if you've got nothing else to do?!? Grin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/07/2012 14:57

I've got some green and some not green squares not yet posted: I'm landing in the UK tomorrow and thought I'd rather go with the Royal Mail than airmail from here. Should I send them, even though they'll be late? And can you make use of the not green ones on another project, or would you prefer them not cluttering up your house?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 15:04

Home now and having a very nice one of these Brew

And hello there to the New York branch Smile

Shredded - Post them all whilst you're in the UK would seem the most sensible option I reckon. Safe journey here X

Sleepy, I shall go and fire up my computer and do that now for you.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 15:11

Pics are there now

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/07/2012 15:18

Will do pistey - thanks!

I love the bobbles!

TimeForCake · 04/07/2012 15:27

Oooohh those blobbles are lovely and look very complicated! So pretty.
Way off my basic level though.
And as for the letter box... love love love!! Did you make those eyes Pistey?? That must have cheered up any passer by! Sorry if you've already explained this somewhere else.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/07/2012 15:39

Thanks pistey Flowers

The blobbles look great! So snuggly looking!
lackadaisycal where did you find the pattern? I NEED some blobbles in my life.
And my iPhone agrees as its just added the word blobbles to the dictionary!!! Shock

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 15:51

erm....that was my effort at yarn bombing for International Yarn bombing day Grin They aren't there any more, but then they were only stuck on with rolled up sellotape!

See here for Dillytante's yarn bombing last night Wine
