We recently heard the devastating news that Matildawormwood's beautiful baby son, Daniel, was born sleeping.
Matilda's thread is here. Our thoughts are with Daniel and Matilda?s family.

We have offered to make a blanket and Matilda is very touched that people would do this for their family. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters and crocheters. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.
At the moment there is quite a lot of wool still in circulation because of the current blanket projects. Where possible, we hope to 'recycle' as much as we possibly can.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool.

One ball should make at least 2 x 6' squares.
If you are a crocheter and/or an experienced knitter needing donor wool, could you let us know when you PM us as we can send part balls from the 'recycled' wool stash. Thanks.

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

We are also introducing two new yarns:

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.
It's another 'silky' wool that fits in nicely alongside the DB and Rowan wools and can be combined with both.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.
Although it isn't as silky as our normal wools, it is soft yet hardy and washes in the same way. It has the added appeal of being a good ethical option and is very reasonably priced.

The Colours:

Blues, greens and cream.

Ideas for squares:

The initials D and N

Motifs: Stars, trees, birds, hearts, snowdrops, sailing boats.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support. Thanks Thanks Thanks

I don't suppose my square arrived today, did it? I'm fretting that putting it in an envelope with lots of stamps wasn't the right thing to do :(

And I forgot to put my name on it anywhere.

AND I'm not sure I sewed the ends in properly. So much to fret about!

KnottyLocks · 02/07/2012 18:03

Sorry Gatsby, not here yet. When did you post it?

KnottyLocks · 02/07/2012 18:04

Stop fretting about the ends btw. Tis easily sorted Smile

That's one thing off your list.

Posted on Saturday. Hmph. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Phew about the ends. I jut sort of wove them in- they dont stick out or anything. I did a bit of YouTubing about it but the Internet was playing up and I wanted to get it sent off on time, which clearly was a waste of worry.

I'm sure you'll be able to fix it anyway :)

Pastabee · 02/07/2012 18:38

Oh the shame. I may never recover. I did confess further up post to having a forgetful moment re the ends which finished as soon as they were posted. Blush

KnottyLocks · 02/07/2012 18:39

They'll be here tomorrow. Smile

Ends woven in really sound fine. What colour are they as you haven't put your name on them Grin

PastaBee, you certainly aren't the first and won't be the last! Now, I think you've suffered enough, you may change out of the sack cloth. Smile

Psssssst PastaBee. I once sent a square to Knotty with pesky ends still a hangin'. Nothing awful happened to me Wink Though I won't do it again! especially as I have just done stripes Grin

prettybird · 02/07/2012 19:22

While we are confessing things, I should let Gatsby know that an envelope with two squares in it that I sent Pistey took nearly a week to arrive and she had to pay 9p to collect it BlushBlush

She also very kindly sewed in the pesky ends of my first three ever squares before passing them on to Knotty/Pidj BlushBlush

I luffs Pistey :)

AllMuddledUp · 02/07/2012 20:43

Grin I had to laugh at 'sailing on the crest of a wave', you are too kind Knotty!

Glad they arrived safely.

Hi knotty, I sent my squares on Saturday, but the postman had already picked up the last collection. :(

Hopefully you'll have them tomorrow or Wednesday.

PurplePidjin · 03/07/2012 09:07

I know, I'll be tackling the lego one next :o

BIWItheBold · 03/07/2012 09:31

But seriously, you are very talented. And I especially love the cuddly thing for Lawrie

SoupDragon · 03/07/2012 10:27

That is a fabulous wooly Beetle. Very impressed, it looks so realistic. Knitted or crocheted?

GreatestGatsby · 03/07/2012 14:02

It's green, Knotty- Debbie Bliss Apple to be precise. Just straightforward stockinette- I'll be more adventurous the next time one is needed, I reckon. Thanks for looking out for it for me-let me know if you end up having to pay Confused I hope it doesn't take a week!

And Pidj, I LOVE the penguin, he's the cutest thing!

LackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2012 16:03

My squares were posted yesterday so hopefully arriving any time soon. There is an errant grey one in there, and a stripey, bobbly one with a bit of grey as well. I hope they're ok.

I really enjoyed doing crochet bobbles; much easier and looking better than knitted ones!

KnottyLocks · 03/07/2012 16:15
