Support thread 2 - new blankets

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Bloody fly it for a ton

prettybird · 08/06/2012 16:15

...and people wonder why the Scots don't think that our subsidy of the Eurotunnel was worth it it was justified on the basis that there would be direct trains from Scotland :(

tribpot · 08/06/2012 16:37

Yup, I remember that bird. And not just Scotland, the link was meant to be direct from various northern/Midland cities in England too. Admittedly the new terminal in St Pancras goes a significant way to mitigating that but even so.

Where in englandshire are you pidj roughly? You might be better driving, unless you get a good deal on the train. I can drive to London in 6 hours

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/06/2012 17:06

I reckon I do Hampshire to Loch Lomond in 7-8 hours on a Saturday. If that is any help.

tribpot · 08/06/2012 17:08

Perhaps Pidj could be passed up the country in a car relay ... that sounds fun. If you don't mind being bundled into the back of a transit van like a hostage, I can help Pidj!

(In reality, I would let you sit in the front).

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 08/06/2012 17:13

Yes! Pidj relay like the Olympic torch, only a bit shorter, and not televised, and no naked flame!

PurplePidjin · 08/06/2012 17:14

I am 450 miles directly south of Edinburgh!

I have no job (relying on short term temping), dp starts his next week but it'll be a while before the comission kicks in, and I'm 15w with pfb. Hopefully there'll be a better time in a few months :)

PurplePidjin · 08/06/2012 17:17

Oh, and neither the van which is still on the road nor the bug which failed it's MOT do more than 25 to the gallon...

Am quite used to rolling around in the back of a campervan!

LackaDAISYcal · 08/06/2012 17:47

If only it was just CVs now trib :( It's all about person specifications and online application forms. This one had 32 essential criteria Confused. Vair tedious to have to keep filling out the same information time and time and time again...anyhoo I got it sent off at 2pm today!

I hope someone offers me a proper job soon, so I can go to knit night. I even had an interview with BRE a few weeks ago, but the hours they were offering and the hours I was available didn't match up. Think of the lost staff discount though

I like the idea of a MN knit meet!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/06/2012 17:54

More news of woolly arrivals on the threads... Thanks

RedRosie · 08/06/2012 17:56

Just purchased some brioche as part of a tempting breakfast for tomorrow - to cheer up DH who's not feeling too well this week.

I saw the brioche, and thought of you lot.

Strange :o

tribpot · 08/06/2012 18:30

Poor Mr Rosie. It is a known fact that brioche cheers everything up, whether it is in fact bread or cake.

DAISY - someone is having a larf with 32 essential criteria. Unfortunately it isn't you Confused Let's hope one of these dreaded app forms turns up the goods soon, the loss of a BRE job is gutwrenching!

tribpot · 08/06/2012 18:41

Btw if we're going to pass Pidj around like the Olympic Torch, does that mean we can put her on eBay afterwards?

OP posts:
RedRosie · 08/06/2012 18:59

Deffo cake. Deffo.

Poor Pidj.

Mind you, millions will take to the streets to watch her go by ...

I don't know where you live Pidj, but I'm in Central London and could do a stint in DH's horrible to drive mid-life crisis car Brera ... Drop you at Watford Gap services?

We need to map it all out.

KnottyLocks · 09/06/2012 10:52

Anyone, apart from Pistey and me, yarnbombing today? Tis International Yarnbombing day! Smile

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 10:53

Yarn bombing???

tribpot · 09/06/2012 11:00

Yarn bombing, Glaikit.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/06/2012 20:24

Grin International Yarn Bombing Day indeed, and I kept looking at things today, and having ideas for next time. The only problem is my ideas are considerably greater than my ability Grin

More lovely squares have arrived safely, announcements on the threads as usual. Thanks

tribpot · 09/06/2012 21:19

Btw, in an Olympic stylee, I have done a map showing the approximate locations of the torch/Pidj en route - total guesswork as to everyone's location apart from my own, obviously but it might help us plan the hostage taking event if Pidj is able to travel in a few months' time.

OP posts:
prettybird · 09/06/2012 21:30

I'm going to be visiting Pistey at the end of July and meeting some other MNers. I could kidnap invite Pidj to join us for the drive back up north. Wink

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 21:36

I'm a wee bit down and to the right of there Trib. Nearer auld reekie! Pardon my ignorance but I thought Leeds was much further north than that. AND Watford gap isn't in Watford Confused.

Geography wa my best subject at school too! Glacial erosion anyone?

PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 21:42

Trib, that's awesome, i'll check my passport's in date! The furthest North of mainland UK I've visited is Nottingham, and that was 2 years ago. Before then was Brum Blush

Don't kidnap me then, pretty, I'm supposed to be taking 6 teens to Latvia and they'd never forgive me if I missed it!

tribpot · 09/06/2012 21:45

Well, I wasn't sure about Watford Gap, Glaikit. I Googled it and that's what it gave me but I never take any notice of it on the M1, much like Scotch Corner on the A1. I drive past it, think: hmm, famous junction, drive on. No idea where they actually are.

I was deliberately vague about where I thought you lived, though - I didn't assume you actually did live on a golf course Wink I've moved you to Beecraigs, which I am very fond of. I know you don't live there either!

Leeds is about a four hour drive from Edinburgh.

Glaikit - that's my dh's favourite subject too. He would have done Glacial Geomorphology as a dissertation at uni, only the geology tutor took a sabbatical (so he did Sand Dune Systems instead Hmm).

Glacial rebound combined with rising sea levels from global warning means that Scotland should be ok while London sinks beneath the waves......Wink
