This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

You willbe pleased to know that devon is where i thought it was!

I've been to big scarey London a few times. Every time I get chatting to someone on the tube. And we've been to Manchester quite a bit. Dh is a huge man u fan following fertile when he left the Mighty Aberdeen FC!

So where exactly does the "the north" start?

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 21:48

Fertile??? Fergie!

PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 21:49

Winchester

tribpot · 09/06/2012 21:51

Yes, please let us not give thought to the fruitfulness of the loins of Mr Ferguson

I hope your assessment of the location of Devon is not based on my total guess at the location of Casa Pidj, I just picked somewhere random due south of Edinburgh that I thought was roughly right-ish. That's Dorset, not Devon.

And never mind all this 'who's gonna survive the rising tide of global warming' malarkey - look at Leeds. Let's face it, we're safe as you like - AND we can take to higher ground (the Pennines) if need be.

OP posts:
prettybird · 09/06/2012 21:54

I was going to mention Leeds as being safe too! Grin Plus of course you're in the Pennine's rain shadow Wink

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 21:56

I know pretty! Loved all that stuff and I really should have done something with it. We drive up through the highlands and I'm pointing out corries and u shaped valleys, scree slopes and dh who did modern studies looks like Confused. I had a fantastic teacher, who still gets quoted to this day. And if anyone dares disagree I get quite huffy! aspect is nae fit yi get fan yi bend ower in a chicken coup

Pidj if MrPretty is right you would be better off us here with us as the south coast will go first, or even worse you end up being part of France!

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 21:58

Devon dorset, same thing aren't they? :o

prettybird · 09/06/2012 22:00

Through dh I've learnt to identify raised beaches Smile. the things your husband teaches you Hmm

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 22:01

And beecraigs is lovely. We might be heading there tomorrow if it's nice. We had our gala day today and shock horror it didn't rain! Minor miracle there!

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 09/06/2012 22:03

Yep! I am now more than literate in the language of man football and know more than I care to think about wwe wrestling!

PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 22:05

Trib, you've moved me! You were really close the first time :o

If necessary i will swim to the Isle of Wight...

tribpot · 09/06/2012 22:08

Oh sod, Pidj, you said Winchester so I moved you to there. Now I see you meant that's where the north started. An interesting idea. Confused God knows where you were before, it was a total guess. I've moved you to Wool now, that seems apt Wink

Heehee that's way too West!

Find the Needles, draw a straight line to the mainland.

Half the people on this thread had my address for blankets last year anyway so it's a bit late for me to worry about being stalked :o

tribpot · 09/06/2012 22:20

'Find the Needles' - this is like some woolcraft-geography puzzle gorn mad! "You're in Wool, find the Needles!"

I feel like Challenge Anneka.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 22:32

Its your Saturday Night Challenge Anneka :o

tribpot · 09/06/2012 23:04

Right, you've moved again, Pidj. I found the Needles! Woo-hoo!

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 23:11

I think that's Beaulieu. Close enough Wink Beaulieu is posh and where i live ain't

tribpot · 09/06/2012 23:13

Call it an upgrade then Wink

Usually I'm a smidge south-east of Oxford. This week however, I'm actually on the Isle of Wight! If I go to The Needles Pidj and wave, will you be able to see me? Wink

tribpot · 10/06/2012 07:56

Minnie, you are on the map Grin

MinnieBar · 10/06/2012 08:10

Oh I am loving my holiday helicopter!

Loving how you've put Rosie bang in the middle of central London Grin

tribpot · 10/06/2012 08:20

Well yes, I'm not suggesting that Rosie actually lives on the Strand (although I suppose people do?!) - all locations are intended to be approximate. Even my own pin is not on my actual house!

OP posts:
RedRosie · 10/06/2012 08:36

:o :o

That's brilliant Trib.

And not far out in terms of Rosie's positioning ... The pointy end of the pin looks about right until you zoom right in - much as I'd like to live on The Strand (v handy for work), actually its Battersea :o

Where the "North" starts is a deeply philisophical question. I have family in the Midlands (or the Mid-Lands as my DM calls it - she thinks it sounds more romantic!) ...

I think north of a line connecting Chester-Chesterfield-Lincoln-Skegness is about right?

tribpot · 10/06/2012 08:48

I think we will have to concede we are talking about the North of England, Rosie, as Glaikit lives in the Central Belt - your DM would probably call that the Mid-Lands too Wink However, I've added your line on so others can see if they feel it is right. It doesn't deliberately end half way through Wales, I just couldn't find Chester unless I zoomed in Grin

MinnieBar · 10/06/2012 09:02

When I was at school in Reading, we all thought Birmingham was the north Grin
