This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Mine is in the post Piste. I thought I'd tell you on here instead of giving you another PM to check.

I have put a card for Greengoose in from the June 2012 thread too.

SDTGisAJubilantWolefGenius · 01/06/2012 13:37

Mine are in the post too, Pistey.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/06/2012 13:52

Thank you Kayz - we will make sure they get it, that is kind.

Mine have gone in the post! Large letter, 90p, bargain!

Weird weather here, overcast but increasingly warm. I predict thunder. DD and I have found a brand new playground, and are now off to pay my massive library fine.

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 01/06/2012 15:07

Ok will try this again! D'ya like my jubilee name?

Also you know you've made it when they are selling knit your own kits of you!

RedRosie · 01/06/2012 16:04

I LOVE your jubilee name Glaikit. Its fab.

Mine are in the post Pitsey ... And there is a little something for you also.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/06/2012 20:12

Awwww... thanks Blush Is it Pru?

Dave has come home!!!!!!!!

One thank you tonight, but parcels waiting for me in the PO.

HRHBarbaraWoodlouse · 01/06/2012 20:56

Rain has reached Woodlouseville today. Clouds opened just as the street party started. Children didn't seem to mind eating slightly soggy sandwiches and cake though.

Must get knitting now...

DontCallMeYourMajesty · 01/06/2012 21:59

Knitted queen is adorable! Deramores have a free pattern to knit a queen, but she is not nearly so cute.

Not content with posting my squares I have also finished my bunting! FloJo kit from notonthehighstreet - easy enough if your sewing machine isn't a complete cnut, but incredibly tight on the materials, heaven forbid you don't read the instructions to the letter ...

Sadly I've left the start of my windmill bag in DD's room so I have no choice nut to drink wine instead.

LackaDAISYcal · 01/06/2012 22:11

I'm posting tomorrow, if my currently blocking squares have dried Hmm

I've never blocked anything in my life until now!

I didn't manage to get as many done as I'd hoped, or anything too fancy due to being ill, but I have one that has stripes, different textures, and beads that I am immensely pleased with.

tribpot · 01/06/2012 22:15

DAISY - we're actually not meant to block them. I'm sure they'll be fine but they are harder to crochet once blocked.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 01/06/2012 22:43

Oh not to worry Smile
Am sure they'll be gorgeous Daisy. We often get a couple that have been blocked because of extra detail added to them. The trusty 3mm hook will be on standby if needed.

LackaDAISYcal · 01/06/2012 23:45

Oh no Shock

Sorry Blush

They are only very lightly blocked as I was worried about ruining them!

KnottyLocks · 01/06/2012 23:54

oh blimey, don't apologise Grin

Blocking is normally the done thing. But because we have so many different crafters creating squares with different tensions and because we use a crochet DC to hook the blankets together (to cope with the variety of tensions and sizes ), we've found it's easier if the majority of squares aren't blocked.

A couple really won't be a problem Smile

LackaDAISYcal · 02/06/2012 00:20

Phew

PurplePidjinghamPalace · 02/06/2012 08:22

You wouldn't be the first to send damp squares, daisy, had to hang a couple on the line before I could use them for one blanket!

RedRosie · 02/06/2012 08:25

Morning ...

What's "blocking" Tirb n Knotty?

KnottyLocks · 02/06/2012 08:41

Rosie, there are a few methods but all have essentially the same aim: using moisture to help create even, flat squares to help with the sewing/hooking up.

tribpot · 02/06/2012 08:41

Blocking, Rosie.

However, because we have so many different crafters, the squares have different tensions . If they aren't blocked, it gives us more wiggleability when hooking the blanket together.

HRHBarbaraWoodlouse · 02/06/2012 08:56

Wiggleability is definitely a word

Next time (sadly I expect there will be a next time) can someone remind me to sew in the pesky ends as I go along.

Oh and my squares are definitely all the same size. If you look at them from different distances Blush. This square is small, this square is far away... Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/06/2012 08:59

I like the term wiggleability Grin

Morning Brew

KnottyLocks · 02/06/2012 09:07

Yep,' wiggleability' is a technical term along with 'pesky ends'. I'm not making this stuff up as I go along, you know! Wink

KnottyLocks · 02/06/2012 09:09

Babs, Grin This cow is small too!
