This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Trib, I was trying to work out why the chuff you were wanting tomake a two tone Dave the Cakey Brioche. Bit crumbly innit?

Then I twigged Grin

[been a long day]

Have a go if you want too. Smile

Arseing typos

tribpot · 30/05/2012 21:31

bird Shock either you were spectacularly unlucky or that book was edited by someone on crack. I honestly would let the publishers know - and post a problem note on Ravelry too.

Knotty. I don't do baking. Especially not with donkey parts.

Don't bloody well break that laptop!

< boggles at the thought of a two tonne donkey shaped brioche >

Pistey pumped you back!

prettybird · 30/05/2012 21:52

I should, shouldn't I?Hmm

I finally managed to get the "square with swirl increases" by sticking labels with the numbers 1 to 5 on the needles. Made it a wee bit awkward sometimes sliding the knitting from one end of the needle to the other - but it worked.

Yes.

MinnieBar · 31/05/2012 10:24

Right. Brioche. Yes to cakey bread but, I'm afraid 'it's a no from me' re: knitting.

I think I sussed it in single colour but really struggled with two. I seemed to lose stitches Confused and doing a yarn over at the very start of a row I found rather hard. I would stand united in the 'I'm not going to be beaten by a wooly square' gang but a) time is running out and b) most importantly, although I think I've got enough wool to do one more 'normal' square, I'm not sure I've got enough for this as it seems to use more. And I would really cry if I got 2/3 of the way through and then ran out of wool!

tribpot · 31/05/2012 14:00

Minnie .. this is what happened with the tree too.

Next time: tree and brioche first!

OP posts:
MinnieBar · 31/05/2012 14:15

I beat the tree last time!

I never learn. I am now trying an entrelac square instead. Because that looks easy Grin

tribpot · 31/05/2012 14:55

Entrelac is quite good fun, actually. I haven't done two-colour entrelac before.

And you're right btw, brioche does use a lot of wool. I'm going to do a scarf in it I think. I'd forgotten you got all the way to the end of the tree, there was someone else who was having a bash at it (Gleaming?) who ran out of time! I will do brioche this time so that collectively the blanketeers have not been beaten.

Thanks to you tribpot I managed to make everything I set out to make.

Having said that, I need to come back to you on that "Tree of Life" one: I succeeded in doing my wavy cable square, but that was only by cheating adapting the pattern and using a cable needle for the single stitch (for the "cable forward"/left - or was it right?) and sort of the dropping the stitch and picking it up again for the "cable back"/ right - or was it left?) rater than following the formal instructions.

tribpot · 31/05/2012 16:11

bird - I think from memory most of the cables in the tree of life are two stitch, so you can use your cable needle without fear of reprisal.

As in fact you can for single stitches, whether holding it in front or behind the work, although it's a bit of a faff for a single stitch :) I found another nice tree pattern recently, will have to see if I can unearth it again!
