This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Blimey pidj so this is almost a life-size bear!

PurplePidjin · 30/05/2012 16:06

Bear square is 11"x12" Shock

Pic in two shakes of a lambs tail...

I used Sirdar Big Bamboo, with Snowflake for the bear, on a 6mm hook :)

Umami · 30/05/2012 17:05

That is a BIIIIIIIGGGGGG bear! Love him!

prettybird · 30/05/2012 17:56

I've finished my "square with swirl increases" complete with flower embellishment. Smile.

I think that I'll stop now - 9 squares is probably plenty! Grin

PurplePidjinghamPalace · 30/05/2012 18:07

Four of him will make a lovely snuggly pram blanket :)

Tis odd, because the same pattern knitted on 4mm needles is a neat 6" - Blondes has several on her woolly hug!

KnottyLocks · 30/05/2012 18:22

Awww, a big fat fluffy bear Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/05/2012 19:21

Evening all.

trib - You are awesome. Quite literally I am in awe. I don't really know what you are talking about most of the time, but I do know you are amazing!

Pidjy - I love that bear! What a biggun Grin

So many lovely squares arriving today, I have had a real treat going through them! Thank yous are on the Freds Wine

Are we safe to talk about Rosie yet?!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/05/2012 19:29

and all PMs replied to Thanks

tribpot · 30/05/2012 20:21

Thanks Pistey! I'm just hoping my handy cut-out-and-keep guide to two colour brioche will be of use to someone :) Am I allowed to do a square of it with Dave the Donkey incorporated, or is he strictly for small embellishments only?

bird - any chance of a pic of your swirly square?

RedRosie · 30/05/2012 20:30

NOT safe to talk about Rosie yet.

No.

Trib - you live on another planet ... But we luff you.

RedRosie · 30/05/2012 20:32

Brioche is CAKE. Not knitting!

KnottyLocks · 30/05/2012 20:35

Brioche is BREAD, Rosie.

Still not knitting, granted. Grin

Molehillmountain · 30/05/2012 20:45

I'm sending off my squares, I'm sending off my squares, ee I adio I'm sending off my squares! Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/05/2012 20:55

No brioche for me ta, I'm off the carbs. Fortunately there are no carbs in gin.

prettybird · 30/05/2012 20:57

tribpot - especially for your benefit, I have opened a Flickr account and my "square with swirl increases" can be seen here - heavily disguised with an extra flower embellishment (another new thing I have learnt to do from my Big Fat Knitting Book).

I have also put a picture of all 9 squares on Flickr.

tribpot · 30/05/2012 20:59

Indeed, qu'ils mangent de la brioche as I always say. Wiki says brioche is bready cake or cakey bread I think.

Knotty, can I have a ruling on Dave the Donkey Brioche? You may confer with Pistey. Wink

Rosie - Leeds is not another planet. We have Harvey Nicks!

OP posts:
RedRosie · 30/05/2012 21:08

Stop making me exile myself you lot!

Brioche is CAKE. Or cakey bread, or bready cake or something.

But its deffo not knitting.

Leeds on the other hand is really quite nice ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/05/2012 21:08

Well, what i do know is that there is a lovely Mouse square coming made entirely in Dave......What I don't know is why we are talking about brioche.
Confused

tribpot · 30/05/2012 21:13

It's all Minnie's fault, Pistey. She made me tackle the brioche.

bird - love the squares! Esp the eyelet lace one with the completely wrong instructions!

My ds has just placed my squares in his order of preference (although it's not clear if the fave one is on the top or at the bottom) and wants to know why there are no elephants this time.

GlaikitFizzog · 30/05/2012 21:15

I though brioche was bread?

Still knitting! Clickety clack, but still no delivery pistey. To my donor I'm sorry about all this. Maybe I can get an extension to the deadline to put your wool to good use?

tribpot · 30/05/2012 21:19

Brioche is a highly enriched French pastry, whose high egg and butter content give it a rich and tender crumb

Pleeasseee can Glaikit have an extension? Glaikit, have wool delivery services just ceased in your part of the world?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/05/2012 21:21

Fizzog - I'm going to pump you

prettybird · 30/05/2012 21:23

tribpot - yes, I was pleased with that one. Thanks for your help on it. I've had to warn Julesjules on one of the blanket threads, who has just bought the book, that although it's a good book, some of the patterns are just plain wrong should be treated with caution. Of my 9 squares (all new techniques/patterns from the book) I'd say 3 had mistakes in the patterns I was following.
