We heard yesterday the very sad news that Greengoose's beautiful baby daughter, Merryn passed away. Greengoose's thread can be found here

We have offered to make a blanket for the family. We hope that it may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball plus P&P.

Crafters, if you need wool, please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, pinks, greens, silvers and cream

Ideas for squares:

Birds have a symbolic meaning to the family so if you could incorporate any bird design that would be lovely.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support.

Thanks

Have already pm'd Pistey but have sent a ball of wool to my knitter today via ebay so hopefully they should get it soon.

Wish I could knit but am absolutely hopeless. The MN blankets are stirring the thought that I should try again though.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/05/2012 22:09

Have replied to all lovely PMs, many thanks everyone Thanks

NessaRose · 09/05/2012 22:10

maxmissie If you are local to me I could teach you.

tribpot · 09/05/2012 22:13

maxmissie, have a go! Like the Dr Pepper adverts, what's the worst that could happen?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2012 06:20

Morning Brew

RedRosie · 10/05/2012 06:28

Morning Pistey. You lovely thing.

RedRosie · 10/05/2012 06:34

Do have a go maxmissie. I learned to knit from scratch in January, and I am very old and butterfingered. I did two squares for the last two blankets, and Knotty didn't frog 'em.

There's lots of help. :)

KnottyLocks · 10/05/2012 07:33

No I didn't frog em Grin

Morning all Smile

Last posting date for squares is Saturday 2nd June

You can post your squares before this though. When you are ready, PM Pistey or me and we'll give you the details.

Thanks

I'm in to knit a few plain squares (aren't try anything fancy!). I will check at home tonight as I think I have the right wool...

KnitterNotTwitter · 10/05/2012 10:50

Thank you, thank you, thank you for my woolly donor (initials HM in Newcastle!) The wool from Cucumberpatch arrived this morning - lovely purple and pale yellow. Will do my best to do your generosity justice :)

duchesse · 10/05/2012 11:51

Thank you to my lovely donor, whose initials are CM!

notpodd · 10/05/2012 11:51

My wool arrived this morning too - thank you to my donor. I will do my best to knit decently enough to make us both vaguely proud!

fanjodisfunction · 10/05/2012 13:26

I hope my wool arrives either today or tomorrow, I want to get started. Keep picking up hook but have nothing to crochet!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2012 13:26

Fabulous that woolly wool is already arriving with crafters. Well done the Donors Grin

Lots of lovely PMs to go through, please bear with me.
In the mean time, have a look at this

Umami · 10/05/2012 13:59

My yarn has arrived! Thanks to my lovely donor LW. Beautiful rich purple and teal-y greeny blue.

It arrived an hour ago, so could have made a start while DS was napping, but postie chucked it over the gate and I've only just realised Angry. DS will be up any minute.

Ho hum. I do believe I need to remember how to crochet first anyway!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2012 14:10

Sounds gorgeoise Umami!

All PMs replied to, many thanks everyone, lots of lovely donors to thank later. Speedy bunch our lovely donors!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2012 16:05

Another lovely pile of PMs replied to! Thanks

tummytickler · 10/05/2012 16:27

Such sad news Sad
I would be more than happy to knit a couple of squares if you still need some. I am not the best knitter in the world, but I could do something simple. Will PM Pistey.

fanjodisfunction · 10/05/2012 17:02

Yay the wool has arrived! So excited and its lovely as always. Ball of pink, Ball of Blue and a ball of green.

Will get my thinking hat on tonight and come up with some creations for both blankets. Have to wait till Spatz the kitten is asleep I think.

CiderwithBuda · 10/05/2012 17:12

Count me in and I have PMed you!

notpodd · 10/05/2012 17:40

Good news - I've done 10 rows without dropping a single stitch! And it is the right width thus far. I'm very proud and more than a little pathetic

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2012 17:42

International Woolly Hugs are go!

Podd - I am so proud of you!
