Woolly hugs

A Blanket for Greengoose: sign up thread for knitters, crocheters and donors.

We heard yesterday the very sad news that Greengoose's beautiful baby daughter, Merryn passed away. Greengoose's thread can be found here

We have offered to make a blanket for the family. We hope that it may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball plus P&P.

Crafters, if you need wool, please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

    The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, pinks, greens, silvers and cream

    Ideas for squares:

Birds have a symbolic meaning to the family so if you could incorporate any bird design that would be lovely.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support.

    Thanks

Pistey, i know you always have swathes of generous volunteers but if you have more donors than crafters, send a ball or two my way Wine

I second purplePidgin I would be happy to make more squares with donated wool. I have a ball or two coming for this blanket and MrsYs so if you do then please send some my way to.

Crafters, bear in mind you'll get at least 5 squares from two balls of wool, possibly six...

Ah that is lovely WTW, not the wool that is out of stock part, the fact the WoollyCu have recognised the lovely blankets. We've tried to engage with them before, but never had a response, I wrote to them yesterday to give them the heads up on the two new blankets we were starting, but didn't hear anything.

But yes, we want a discount!

What colour is out of stock?

Cucumberpatch are getting used to us now!
I imagine our orders are quite distinctive: one or two balls of special wool, in certain colourways, to a completely different address, often to people with strange nicknames.

Because we are special Smile

I havnt received an eamil yet from them so hoping my order is ok and on its way. Been looking at birds and initials, might see what I can do with my crochet hook, might have to rope in my mum, shes an expert maker uper of patterns, and also can look at a piece of crochet and know how to make it without looking at the pattern.

It was colour no 24 in the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK. Came from a nice man named Daniel Smile

And did nice Daniel say when it would be in stock or offer an alternative? Smile

Deramores have it in stock I think - I ordered mine (not shade 24, mind) today.

Fingers and thumbs. com have 24 in stock (or their website says so!)

Stick a note in for Kate saying it's for the Woollyhugs: she knows all about the blankets and she'll hopefully get it sent asap.
