We heard yesterday the very sad news that Greengoose's beautiful baby daughter, Merryn passed away. Greengoose's thread can be found here

We have offered to make a blanket for the family. We hope that it may give whatever comfort it can to them all.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball plus P&P.

Crafters, if you need wool, please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, pinks, greens, silvers and cream

Ideas for squares:

Birds have a symbolic meaning to the family so if you could incorporate any bird design that would be lovely.

Please don't feel daunted by this as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen on the WoollyHugs website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs.

As always, thank you so much for your support.

Thanks

I'm glad I wrote your name with (The Blanket Project) on the second line.

Hopefully you'll get it tomorrow!

I forgot to specify which squares are for which (although to tell the truth, I'm happy for them to go into either blanket) but I knitted the bird thinking of Greengoose, the "feather and fan" pattern (that's the one with wavy edges) thinking of specifically of Mrs Y and the star one was also thinking of Mrs Y.

I sometimes wonder if my local sorting office have found us on here, they're very friendly and mostly long-timers so have no problem matching a face to an address. Hurrah for semi-rural communities and Naice People :o Thanks

TomblibooTrousers · 06/06/2012 22:32

Glad they got to you okay x

ToriaPumpkin · 07/06/2012 11:38

prettybird · 08/06/2012 18:41

These are going to be gorgeoise blankets! :):)

Soooo much hard work has gone into them :)

KnitterNotTwitter · 08/06/2012 21:24

Glad my final two turned up ok after the bank holiday weekend - the snuggly one is brioche - agree on the snuggly-ness although it is VERY slow work! Not sure I'd ever have the patience to do a whole garment in it!

prettybird · 08/06/2012 21:45

I must try brioche the next time Smile - I've enjoyed extending my techniques for these blankets.

I did Fisherman's Rib for the first time for one of my squares. It was very slow but a lovely snuggly rib - is brioche done in a similar way?

SoupDragon · 09/06/2012 08:55

Isn't brioche some kind of bread...?

PurplePidjin · 09/06/2012 10:32

It's what French folk eat when they can't afford the regular stuff, Soupy Wink

tribpot · 09/06/2012 11:19

bird, if you have a look back at the support thread you can find my notes on brioche in excruciating detail. And yes, it is similar to the Fisherman's Rib, doesn't involve knitting into the row below.

Did you do a one or two colour brioche, KnitterNotTwitter? I really like both and it creates such a lovely fabric. Arse-and-a-half to do though!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/06/2012 20:20

KnitterNotTwitter's brioche was all in cream. It is such a super snuggly knit, that is for sure!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/06/2012 20:20

Morning Brew
My squares are finished. But... one is only 5.5" square and I don't know how I didn't realise before I snipped the wool Blush. I thought I'd try and add some sort of border, but since I was making it up as I go along, it was less than successful. Can anyone explain in basic terms what I can do? Shall I just send the one that is the right size?
Sorry to be a pain.
must change jubilee name too

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/06/2012 09:24

Morning Cakey Brew

Send them both. Do you have my address?

TimeForJubileeCake · 10/06/2012 09:34

Thanks Pistey, will do. I think I may still have your address but if you could pm it again, just to be sure I don't send them to Knotty by mistake.
Please don't spend extra time sorting out my smaller one, I know how busy you all are. I won't be at all offended if it's not used. I just need to improve! Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/06/2012 09:42

Cakey, my lovely, you have mail Thanks

TimeForJubileeCake · 10/06/2012 09:51

Thanks Pistey, you're a star.
