We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

I don't live anywhere near Reading Grin

I do however live about 10 mins from Nickel (she bullies me under my other nickname, as I always forget the WI and DH is never home in time, so I have changed........)

Morning, lovely woolly folk Smile

I tried out a crochet Twitter bird yesterday and it looked good, so as soon as I get my wool, that's what I'll be making.

Pistey, huge numbers! Hope the PM system can cope!

I've asked for this thread to be moved to Arts and Crafts now in order to preserve it for MrsKwazii's family to read if they ever want to in the future

Love the twitter bird motif thing

Hello twitterers

I have finished two squares for Wubbly's blanket and am waiting on my wool order from Cumberpatch so I can start on Mrs Kwaziis.

Have been thiking about both families as I knit. My 9yo was reading this thread over my shoulder and said "Will you teach me how to knit, Mummy, I would like to do a square for the blanket" Awww.

JulesJules · 29/02/2012 10:32

thiking?? thinking

mungojenny · 29/02/2012 10:46

I received 3 balls of wool this morning from cucumberpatch pale blue and pink so thankyou to the person who organised wool to be sent to me in gloucestershire, I hope you know who you are. Thanks

PoohBearsHole · 29/02/2012 11:03

Sorry small hijack

I know nickel I know, its just a case of dh getting home on flipping time! So far this week he hasn't managed it once Hmm, he is either off with another woman (yeah right- not cocky just realistic Grin), asleep in the office (highly flipping likely) or getting ready for my birthday (what he thinks I think he is doing but I know he isn't Hmm) so it will be touch and go. 7pm?

re crafty stuff in the shop - I shall be coming straight in if the casting off doesn't work Grin

I hope my wool arrives today Sad I was so excited yesterday!

nickelhasababy · 29/02/2012 11:15

tell him to get his arse in gear - it's important!!
It starts at 7:30, but Sarah won't start until after the business (8o'clock ish?) so it won't matter if you're a bit late. :)

nickelhasababy · 29/02/2012 11:15

Jules - that's lovely of your DC. :)

chipmonkey · 29/02/2012 11:38

Actually Jules, I may get ds2 to do a square. He did learn to knit somewhere along the way and it would be good practice.

Glitterknickaz · 29/02/2012 11:48

Have just received the yarn from my donor, thank you, very pretty pale pink.
Thanks also for the lovely card with the pink flower Wink

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 12:04

Jules, lovely idea Smile we have some mother & daughter teams who are crafting for the Wubbly blanket and we've certainly had some in the past too.

Chip, that would be fantastic. Be our first mother and son team Smile

I am so so sorry to read the sad news about MrsK beautiful girl. I'm afraid I was born without the craft gene, but would like to donate some wool to one of you fab knitters. Off to PM pistey now.

PurpleSquid · 29/02/2012 14:12

I have received some wool this morning. :) It's a lovely sort of pale teal/green colour.

Thank you very much to whoever sent it. :)

Now all I need to do is find my needles. Oh, and remember how to knit. :)

Sad

This probably sounds obvious, but has anybody from MNHQ approached the companies who make Debbie Bliss and Rowan wools to tell them that their wool is being used for these wonderful blankets? I'd be surprised if they didn't want to help in some way by maybe sending a few boxes to Mumsnet Towers or enabling Mumsnetters to buy direct at a discounted rate. Saves people having to hunt around for the right sort of wool and bid against each other on ebay etc.

Blatherskite · 29/02/2012 14:51

That's a lovely idea cuppa. I've reported the post to MNHQ so hopefully someone will see it soon

PurpleSquid · 29/02/2012 14:51

Chipmonkey I HAVE DONE TWO ROWS!

It only took me about an hour, too. Grin
