i will do some squares too and i have just last week been given ALOT of wool by my mum so let me know what the colouyrs are and i will get cracking.

i have never been involved in one oif the MN blankets before so if anyone has any links or could explain a bit more about them that would be greatSmile

Thumbwitch · 20/02/2012 11:09

If this blanket is going to be primarily for a little boy, perhaps fewer pink squares? OK, I realise I'm buying into hideous gender bias bollocks here, but in general perhaps more blue, green, cream, silver with just a few pinky ones?

DonkeyTeapot · 20/02/2012 11:12

I'd like to make some squares too, knit or crochet. I'm also happy to make some on someone else's behalf if they want to contribute yarn. (I'm on Isle of Man if there's anyone nearby, to save postage costs.)

KnottyLocks · 20/02/2012 11:13

Thumb, excusing your gender bias for a moment Smile, I'm sure we could make the colour scheme less pink.

Should I just start a thread?

Rudawakening · 20/02/2012 11:13

If it goes ahead I can knit and will be happy to help x

RIP Wubbly

KnottyLocks · 20/02/2012 11:14

Donkey, you'll be the second Isle of Man knitter. Smile

hairypotter · 20/02/2012 11:16

Am happy to donate money for wool again. Sad

PurplePidjin · 20/02/2012 11:18

NoMore, there's usually a specific type of yarn used so the whole blanket washes and dries coherently!

Are we continuing with the Cashmerino/Cashsoft yarn as it works up well??

I still have leftovers so will get cracking if we are

rubycon · 20/02/2012 11:20

I'll knit again.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2012 11:22

I'm happy to crochet but I have no appropriate wool left.

NoMoreMarbles · 20/02/2012 11:28

theres a fantastic wool shop 10 minutes away from me so i will pop there at the weekend (dont have money until wednesday and working for the rest of the week) i can also buy extra and donate some to knitters who cant buy the wool if neededSmile

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 20/02/2012 11:38

I will miss Wubbly :(

Knotty - it was only this morning that you sent the PM to Syb, I think it's probably best to wait 24 hrs before doing anything else as she may want to organise it herself? If not, your usual organisational skills (along with Pistey) would be greatly appreciated I'm sure :)

Maybe you could put a link on here re yarn, sizes, designs etc for anyone who hasn't done it before and needs some advice so they can get started with buying the yarn etc?

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 20/02/2012 11:39

Also maybe post the link to the MNer who has the wool shop?

Primrose123 · 20/02/2012 11:41

I can knit and crochet, as long as it's something simple. Can anyone give more information on knitting a blanket on Mumsnet- is it a tradition?

Thumbwitch · 20/02/2012 11:44

I was going to suggest that maybe, rather than start another thread, ask Syb to get this one moved to Crafts? and start the links etc. on here? Although, if she's not going to co-ordinate it, Knotters, and you are, then it's probably easier to start a new one so that you are the OP and I can see all your posts in colour. But agree with Chipping, give it 24h before you do. :)

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 20/02/2012 11:53

Will donate wool x so very sad x

KnottyLocks · 20/02/2012 11:53

Chipping & Thumb, I agree with you both. I'm waiting to hear from Syb. Smile

Primrose, there have been blankets made for bereaved families and partners in the past, both on and off the boards. It's not a tradition as such but something people have contributed to as a way of showing support and sending what comfort they can to families facing devastating loss. The blankets over the last year have come to be known as 'Woolly Hugs'.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/02/2012 11:58

I hope no-one minds, but I went to Wubbly's thread and mentioned the idea of the blanket.

VeryLittleGravitas · 20/02/2012 12:06

I can crochet some squares as well.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2012 12:20

The problem with moving it to crafts is that potential donors may not see it.

messymammy · 20/02/2012 12:25

Would love to be involved in this. Will look for the wool on Wednesday in town. Am in Ireland, presume squares can be posted?
My thoughts are with Mr W and his boy.

KnottyLocks · 20/02/2012 12:32

Like Soupy, I think the thread should stay here until the organising of the blanket is sorted out.

Messy, normally squares are posted once done.

Can't say for sure which wool we're using until LadySybil returns.

Previous blankets have been made using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK and Rowan Cashsoft DK. Either wool is fine and they work well together. We have specified the wool type in the past so that we can ensure (as much as we can) that the blanket will wash/shrink the same way as well as be durable. The wool also has a lovely snuggly quality.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2012 13:01

I can't see a reason to change wool types - unless they've discontinued the Mumsnet Wool :)

I would suggest the same type in the more "masculine" colour ways.

AmberLeaf · 20/02/2012 13:04

My knitting isnt up to scratch, but id like to donate money to pay for wool.

Once its all organised if someone could PM me and tell me what I need to do, I have a paypal account so can pay money into someone elses if that makes it easier for the knitters to buy the wool?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/02/2012 13:04

Blues/greens/creams, perhaps?
