We have heard the dreadfully sad news that Chipmonkey's baby daughter died unexpectedly this week. Condolence thread is here Chipmonkey has said tonight that she would love to receive a MN blanket.

Because Knotty is snowed under a mountain of wool, I am taking on the coordination for this, so if you are a donor or a crafter needing a match - please PM me and I will match you up. I know there is an amazing army of donor, knitter and crochet stars, and I am hoping that you will feel able to help with this blanket too.

So if you feel that you can help, please PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, and I will sort it all out, and when you are ready to post, PM me for the address.

I will have to get back on the deadline...

But thank you in advance.

Just marking the thread, as have contacted Piste, but realise I've not actually posted on here. After my flowers for the garland, I'm getting crochet delusions of grandeur. In my head I'm going to make this though the reality will be more this Grin

Should need one ball, and I think the sort of mid sky blue colour is lovely... Pink is nice but there are too many different shades to choose!

Reminds me of that great plague story peachy, about that village in Derbyshire or somewhere, where they'd managed to stay free of the plague by making suppliers drop stuff off some way away from the village and leaving the money there, so they kept themselves cut off from the rest of the world. Until the fateful purchase of woolen cloth, complete with fleas...

Report
Peachy · 10/10/2011 12:01

Didn't know that one!

No, not plague LOL: just a nasty head cold we can't shake. Doubt anyone wants to share it though (no fleas eitehr that I am aware of ;) )

Hello,

Have been knitting away quietly, can somebody tell me when to stop please?
What I mean is, the square is curling in on all sides so I'm not sure if it's square or not, I can't be the only one with curly knitting, so what does everyone else do? I'm thinking iron it when it's still on the needle in case it's too short, but would appreciate any tips from more experienced knitters.

LadyWellian · 10/10/2011 13:26

Maud you shouldn't need to iron it. If you can flatten it out on the needle then folding it diagonally while tell you if it is square yet.

By way of a guide, if you're doing stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) then with 33 stitches you should be looking at something like 42-45 rows.

LadyWellian · 10/10/2011 13:27

Obviously that should have been will, not while.

MaudLebowski - I can be of no help with your frilly knitting, I am sorry.

RE the size, I just cast on a few more than 33 because I am so tight then just keep going, measuring with a ruler.

I know from hooking the blankets together, Knotty says they prefer the square not ironed because it makes it harder to work with.

Yep, on the whole it's easier to get the hooks through when the squares are unblocked. Especially if they are tightly knitted.

We will obviously use them if they are blocked though Smile

Right you are, just need to figure out how to cast off then (may not have knitted since last century emoticon)

Squares for Chipmonkey to me please by Friday 28th October

This should allow for all donated wool to reach their crafters, and then time for making too. Obviously if you are ready earlier, that is great, just PM me for the address.

Many thanks to everyone Thanks

MaudLebowski - I learnt casting off by watching a film on YouTube that Knotty sent me, hang on, I'll go and see if I can find which one. It was very clear although as I recall I very nearly cocked it up

Go for it, Maud. Smile In no time at all, you'll be multi-tasking like Piste does: watching Strictly, knitting, facebooking AND drinking gin.
