We have heard the dreadfully sad news that Chipmonkey's baby daughter died unexpectedly this week. Condolence thread is here Chipmonkey has said tonight that she would love to receive a MN blanket.

Because Knotty is snowed under a mountain of wool, I am taking on the coordination for this, so if you are a donor or a crafter needing a match - please PM me and I will match you up. I know there is an amazing army of donor, knitter and crochet stars, and I am hoping that you will feel able to help with this blanket too.

So if you feel that you can help, please PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, and I will sort it all out, and when you are ready to post, PM me for the address.

I will have to get back on the deadline...

But thank you in advance.

I don't know if anyone is around who knows anything about stripes, but it seems you either twist the wool up site side, or you Shock cut it. Which is better? I can see plus points for both and negatives too. I would be a bit frit of cutting it tbh in case the whole thing unravels!

Don't cut it! Need to sew all loose ends in first.

TimeForCake · 15/10/2011 16:55

Ooooh Pistey, you thrown those L plates over your shoulder? Stripes you say?! Well done for trying more complicated matters! There's no way on this earth that I'm ready for that. Reckon that YouTube lady is telling you big fat porkies Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 17:18

Am finding this unbelievably fiddly, and the L plates are even more firmly attached Cakey Grin

I'm getting in a right pickle.

My wool arrived yesterday; thank you to the lovely donor Thanks

Now, where are my needles...

greenzebra · 15/10/2011 17:28

hello fellow 'Whoolies' ordered my wool on tuesday from cucumber patch and its still not here. How long has it been taking for your guys wool to arrive?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/10/2011 17:34

Mine was ordered by someone else and arrived very quickly, obv I don't know when it was ordered but it arrived about 2 days after I sent my address to Pistey

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 17:40

I think greenzebra, I would be tempted to follow it up if it doesn't get to you on Monday. Cucumberpatch are usually very quick at sending wool out, I think if they receive the order by 12 noon, they will send it out first class that day, so you can get it as early as the following day. So even if you missed their posting on Tuesday, it should have been sent first class on Wednesday.

But I know that someone was delayed by Cucumberpatch running out of a certain colour and then having to get an alternative.

I've had to call them before and they were very helpful on the phone. Hope you get your wool soon.

cheers piste I will do that. I just want it here so I can crochet!Smile

Pistey how are your stripes going?

If you're doing fairly narrow stripes (as anything on a 6" square is going to be) then taking it up the side (as it were) is the way to go. Just twist them together a bit, though you'll probably need to untangle them every few rows.

Also as regards the number of rows per stripe, I'd keep it to an even number so you are always changing colour with the same side facing you. If you're doing garter stitch (all knit) it doesn't really matter which side, but if you're doing stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row), start the new colour on a knit row.

Also if you're doing garter stitch you might find it takes more than 45-ish rows to get to 6".

Have PMed you Piste!

Georgimama · 15/10/2011 21:03

I don't know if I have been matched to a donor or not but I haven't had any wool. If we are out of donors I will buy my own, just tell me to.

UMaimedMe · 15/10/2011 21:13

I have three squares completed. I've done two in plain SC, but with an 'S' on one and an 'R' on the other - hope these are okay. They are basically 6". I am just having a go at blocking them to make sure they are the right size, though I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to that.

It was a fairly close-run thing yarn-wise, and I was convinced I was going to run out before I'd finished the R, but I made it with a fair bit to spare. I thought I was going to have to undo my wonky, random, made-up granny square to use the yarn, but now you will have the pleasure of enjoying its wonk! Will post the bit of excess for edging etc.

Thanks again to Pistey and Knotty and Pidge and all other blanketeers.

Especial Thanks to Knotty for pointing me in the direction of Ravelry, as I am now very keen to get my crochet on!

Thanks also to my secret donor. I think using someone else's wool upped the ante, and made me consider trying something other than a bog-standard square!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 21:31

Evening all. Have returned all PMs. Thank you to everyone x

UMaimedMe - sounds totally fab-u-lous well done Thanks

Georgimama - yes, you've definitely been matched, I wil chase it up, and PM you and sorry you are waiting Thanks

duchesse - have returned your PM Thanks

LadyW - stripes are blooming fiddly and I have had to abandon them on account of the Wine but I shall try again tomorrow. I am on garter stitch, but am having to do 7 rows pink and 2 rows cream, because I don't have so much cream left. Will the square be good enough? Time will tell

Thank you everyone...
Wine Cheers!

Don't worry, I can knit fast once I get it - I have a school age child and the easiest newborn in the world so I am sat doing not much most days.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 21:42

Envy at the easy newborn!

OP posts:
Georgimama · 15/10/2011 21:44

My first was a hell baby - he woke every 45 minutes throughout the 24 hours. I have paid my dues!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/10/2011 21:48

Ah... fair enough then Grin

Georgimama · 15/10/2011 21:51

God I'm insensitive on this thread banging on about my easy newborn. Ignore me. I'm a twat.

AKMD · 15/10/2011 22:08

I don't think it's insensitive. Get some arnica for those bruises!

I am childishly excited that, scanning the thread, I'm fairly sure my wool actually arrived. The lady who runs the website I ordered from actually phoned me and asked who on earth I was sending it to with a name like that :o

MilkNoSugarPlease · 15/10/2011 22:18

Hope my previous balls of wool have reached their rightful homes...I can afford to donate one more ball of wool (sorry it's not more Blush) please PM if you can match me

KnottyLocks · 15/10/2011 23:00

Milky, I am now going to have a stern word with you!

You have donated balls upon balls for many of our projects. You are often one of the first I get a PM from offering help. Your PMs make me Smile and often giggle. You are a blooming Star. Put your Blush away, woman! Thanks

KnottyLocks · 15/10/2011 23:18

Yarn bargains for those donating or wanting to get your own wool

If you look on Cucumberpatch Yarn Bargains you should be able to find Rowan Cashsoft DK and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK at discount prices. There are colours that fit with our blanket colour palette.

If ordering from Cucumberpatch, after you've added the address for delivery, put a note in the additional comments for the vendor repeating the request that the yarn is delivered to Name Of Knitter at Different address. They are normally very speedy, but sometimes put the wrong name on the woolly packages which can make it a wee bit troublesome if collecting from the sorting office.

Many thanks.
