Following on from the blanket for Magic8 which is under construction, we'd like to offer one to Whatevertheweather who has recently lost her baby daughter.

I know there is already an army of knitters and crocheters and donors out there; would anyone be able to join us?

I found some lovely little bees on Ravelry when Cupoftea's thread was first started, Oma :) There were a couple of fat little oval ones IIRC.

Bunting is good... Just sew them on a ribbon.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2011 10:12

In fact, if every one comes with a hanging loop between certain length parameters, just knot the ribbon round the loop.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2011 10:14

Crocheted bees. I particularly like Bumble the Bee.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2011 10:16

Gah! I messed the search up a bit and it includes anything posted by someone with bee in their name too.

Ali, to PM someone, click on the 'Message poster' on the strip that has their name above their posts. It's that easy.

I would suggest that you ask for your post above to be deleted (Click on 'Report' as it you've put your email address. Otherwise you could get all sorts of spam of the unwanted kind. There's some funny sorts around Grin

Not from me, obviously Wink

KnottyLocks · 29/09/2011 18:33

Ali, I've PMed you.
Look at the top of the page where it says 'Log In' and 'Inbox'.
There should be a red dot nest to the 'Inbox' to tell you that you have a message. Click on the Inbox to read the message.

KnottyLocks · 29/09/2011 18:41

Soupy, there are some cute patterns on Ravelry. You need to be a member to see them, so others may not be able to.

I'm also thinking of primroses. Beatrice's middle name.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/09/2011 19:17

I know my limitations and sadly I recognise that bees are beyond me Sad

I tried purling the other day, that is beyond me too at the moment - it was like trying to do something left handedly and back to front. And I couldn't seem to do it tightly at all. Twas rather frilly and very rubbish.

So then I thought I might learn how to do stripes, wish me luck! Grin

KnottyLocks · 29/09/2011 19:29

Good luck, Piste!

Purling does feel a bit odd at first. Somewhere, I've got a cute teddy pattern that is entirely your basic knit stitch. I reckon you're ready!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/09/2011 19:35
Confused
AugustMoon · 29/09/2011 20:14

Soup, purple - I've been following this thread, I wanted to join when you were making something for Erin and whatever but was a bit beyond me at the time, another sad story unfortunately, not for here. So now I see you're doing this for cupoftea and I want to help. I'm going to start crocheting some bees tomorrow (need to get the cotton) - please keep me in the loop. Thanks

NessaRose · 29/09/2011 21:41

Knotty have the squares arrived yet?

Any one up for teaching me to crochet(sp?) I would love to learn. Thanks.

purplepidjinawoollytangle · 29/09/2011 22:52

Welcome to the club, Ali and August! Thanks

Nessa, are you close enough to me to meet up? Do you still have my address, if not I'm West Hampshire area...

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 30/09/2011 01:43

Piste maybe you could try a dufferent kbitting technique if you are struggling with the purling in the one you are using. I am "combined" knitter of the easyern european variety and knitting and purling works almost the same way.

nessa I am in east devon if you need a crochet teacher down here..

AugustMoon · 30/09/2011 09:24

Thanks purple - I joined Ravelry and am attempting the Crocheted Baby Bumble... think she's got a sweet face! Will let you know how I get on over the weekend. Mum's birthday today so off to see her now with flowers). Have a nice day everyone :)

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 12:41

I've been thinking about CupOfTea and Little Beatrice. With the bees and flowers idea, what do you think about something like this bunting/hanging decoration linking the bees and flowers together?

LadyWellian · 30/09/2011 12:51

I can turn my scraps into some bunting type triangles which should be achievable for even the basic-est knitters. It'd want to be garter stitch (all K) as it lies nice and flat, and would just be a case of cast on x stitches, then either K2tog at the start of every row, or at the start and end of each row until you have 2sts left, then cast off. You'll get a longer 'flag' if you do the start of every row.

If you let me know how big the crochet motifs are, I can work out how many stitches 'x' is Grin

Thanks
KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 12:57

That's grand, Welli Grin

I'm off to measure my flowers.

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 13:28

I've sent Cupoftea a message asking if she'd like something like the bunting for her lovely girls.

I'll be back once I've heard.

LadyWellian · 30/09/2011 13:38

If not we could always stick it in the raffle

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 13:46

That we could. I'm getting PMs from other crafty types so you're not alone with your itchy fingers.

LadyWellian · 30/09/2011 13:51

There's always hats to knit for little smoothie bottles, I suppose.

DutchOma · 30/09/2011 14:15

The advantage of that is, too that it doesn't matter so much what type of yarn you use s it doesn't have to wash and match. Any scraps of brightly coloured yarn woul make for bunting or a mobile of some sort. What a wonderful idea.
