Following on from the blanket for Magic8 which is under construction, we'd like to offer one to Whatevertheweather who has recently lost her baby daughter.

I know there is already an army of knitters and crocheters and donors out there; would anyone be able to join us?

That's what I was thinking, Oma. Saves having to match up folks and send wool all over the country.

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 14:19

So in theory, a bit easier to organise than the usual cat herding operation.

purplepidjinawoollytangle · 30/09/2011 14:29

I've been directing PMer's your way, Knotty - hope that's ok?

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 14:34

I noticed Grin

That's fine, my lovely.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/09/2011 14:37

Knotty - I love that bunting. Totally gorgeoise - absolutely delightful.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2011 14:38

Less complicated construction too. The size of any crocheted fowers/bees/hearts/other stuff doesn't matter too much as you can hang, say, several flowers together or make the whole thing more random.

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 14:40

Soupy, I think random suits us perfectly Grin

SoupDragon · 30/09/2011 14:43

:o

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 14:44

It gives people several options too, which is what I like about it.
They can make a triangle or motif or flower or bee or circle, whatever really.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2011 14:45

Less work all round

[slacker]

I am in the midst of a mass Scout Badge Sewing session. It is dull.

trumpton · 30/09/2011 14:51

Umm... As a square donator for all the other blankets, may I just say that a blanket is for ever whilst pretting bunting is just pretty bunting.

The blankets are a virtual hug to wrap the families in... Oh bugger I feel I am not expressing myself well here and of course it is completely up to Cuppa .

And I would, of course be honoured to be a small part of any project. I can not offer to help with the huge amount of matching and sewing together due to geographical restrictions.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2011 14:57

"I can not offer to help with the huge amount of matching and sewing together due to geographical restrictions"

and that is the main problem. The actual making of the squares is a peices of cake but there is one he'll of a lot of work involved in construction and organising and this is still ongoing for several blankets.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/09/2011 14:59

Could the basic-est knitter in recent times make a triangle?!

purplepidjinawoollytangle · 30/09/2011 15:17

Soupie, Trumpton is particularly restricted on that one Wink

But yes, we'd need a completely new person to take on the construction, Knotty and I are both maxed to capacity...

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 15:29

Trumpton, I know what you mean about the blankets.

It's a tricky one in that respect. The blankets have been associated with bereavement- not the case with Cupoftea. I haven't offered her a blanket for that reason really.

The bunting has a (I'm looking for the right word here and struggling) 'brighter' association, I guess.

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 15:37

It's hard to articulate. Not sure if I did that very well there.

I hope you understand what I mean.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2011 16:49

Oh, I wasn't getting at Trumpton :) I couldn't commit to constructing or coordinating a blanket either. I was only saying that that aspect was a big stumbling block with doing another blanket.

that and the fact that we've probably cleared out the country's supply of yarn.

trumpton · 30/09/2011 18:48

Grin I did not feel I was being got at all. Happy to join in with anything. Total admiration for all the coordinators and relay team.

trumpton · 30/09/2011 18:49

GAH! got at at all. That looks all wrong !

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 18:56

We understand what you're saying, Trumpton. In good company Grin

LadyWellian · 30/09/2011 23:02

Pistey yeah, I reckon you could. Wink

Cast on 16 sts. Knit one row. Knit 2 together (needle in through 1st 2 stitches, knit as if you were knitting one stitch) at the start of the next and each following row. Within 15 rows you'll only have 2sts left. Cast off and let me know how big it is. Grin

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 23:09

Ok, we're going ahead with the bunting/garland. I'm about to start a thread.

Will link in a min

KnottyLocks · 30/09/2011 23:17

Here we go: the woolly garlands

Welli, we need to think about sizes for bunting. Ideas appreciated here rather than on that thread so not to confuse. Ta.

I'm knackered so will be back in the morn.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/10/2011 07:15

LadyW - I'm going to give your knitting recipe a whirl in a mo. Smile

As a 'knitter' in her very early knitting career, I have a technical question about wool! You say it doesn't matter about what sort of wool is used, but wool is all different thicknesses and stuff, so what would you recommend?!

And if you need someone to help by sewing lovely things onto a bunting tape, I would be very happy do that. Grin

SoupDragon · 01/10/2011 07:31

could you do a triangle bascwards by increasing one at each end of the row and stop when its the right size?
