There is irony in me starting this second thread for you lovely Blanket Makers, as I'm the least crafty person, but I'm doing it to help Pidj Smile

Whereabouts are you roughly?

Pidj says she has enough wool and squares for the minute. No doubt she'll shout if she needs us to knit.

London. Sarf East.
Probably a good thing about the squares. My crocheting fingers are calloused and I'm starting to twitch. Although, to be fair, that's more to do with the 2 blankets I've done for me alongside the squares Grin

Whydo I'm right on the Weymouth-Waterloo line, so can easily get to Woking, Clapham, Guildford etc if you fancy it Grin

Or, find me at London Volksfest on Sunday (North Weald) just let me know and I'll pack the woolly stuff...

I was doing a bit of wondering re the fundraising etc... just wondered whether we might be able to also do a few more low-key ones... eg baby blanket, of hat and gloves set etc - every now and then if someone would specifically like to help one of the identified charities - but wouldn't want to make it too often...

Lets see how this one goes first and work our way from there.

Raffle or auction for certain charity every 3 or 4 months or something...

I know, however, there are people that want to knit things in aid of charities - it might be that we can actually match people up a bit so that one person can say that they want a baby cardigan - and another will knit it for them for a donation to x of y or whatever... not sure how that could be policed - perhaps you'd need the garment already made first? Don't know.

Ooh, I LOVE that idea! MumsNet New Parents Clothes Shop! We could have justgiving (or whatever) accounts for 3 or 4 charities, then whenever a parent to be wants something they put a fiver in the pot and get sent a handmade item of clothing Grin

Blondes blanket has 1.5 sides of edging, but my breakfast decided it didn't like my stomach this morning so I'm off work for 2 days. I don't know if that means I'll get more or less crocheting done, DP's ordered me to rest!

That's a brilliant idea!
Sadly can't get to Volksfest :(
Will keep Woking etc in mind though. I'm quite often down in Surrey for cor anglais lessons, and cor anglais cases have the fortunate ability to carry yarn as well as instruments!

Brilliant idea was to mistlethrush btw. I'd be in for that :)
Pidj, did you say on another thread that you always need prem stuff? Can def do you some if so (once I've got mega owl-hexagon blanket out of the way for sis's Christmas present. Oh and baskets of knitted vegetables for various children...)

In that case, I'll bring the viola and we can play some duets are there any? I have a double violin/viola case somewhere that would stash an entire blanket...

I try and do what I can for www.lisasstars.org.uk although there are loads that need things Sad

I've got some double viola duets somewhere pidj... although I could probably manage the violin part of the Mozart too.... Wink

Lets sort the raffle out first and then see how we go - but if people want to knit, people want to buy, and we can raise some money for specific charities that way seems a good solution.

Last year around Mothering Sunday we had a link-up between (expectant) mothers wanting something and people who wanted to knit but had run out of people to knit for. This year, because of the blanket knitting, we decided not to run it again. It was EffiePerine who organised the knitathon last time and she would have done it again, but for the fact that there was a lot going on.
There was also someone else (earlier on in the Arts and Crafts section) who had more knitting time than people to knit for.
I would knit, but would find it hard to buy endless amounts of wool for charity purposes on an ongoing basis.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo Dutch, I'm so sorry, I didn't realise we were interrupting other stuff! We could have had a pause Sad

Ditto, I'm happy to crochet but am already spending my food and petrol money on fabric for orders Hmm Most of my profit is in my Dad's paypal account and i owe my mum money, so doubt I'll see it. If I'm going to to charity stuff with anything but cheapie acrylic, I'll need the wool sent.

Certainly wouldn't want to step on any toes. Blush

Report
DutchOma · 17/06/2011 11:16

No, it wasn't stepping on toes at all. And won't be. I just wanted to sound a bit of a warning, before people got carried away.
The linking-up was a good plan and people offered to make donations to charity when I did some knitting for them. I left it up to them, so don't know whether it happened.
Real nice yarn is quite expensive though and people often don't realise.

Evening Grin

Blimey, it's ideas a go go here. We'll be going into business soon. I must point out that while I can knit a square, clothing would be the equivalent of attempting K2 for me. (That's the mountain not the stitch)

Report
KnottyLocks · 17/06/2011 19:46

Unless you want clothes made out of squares. I could do that, oh yes.

Report
KnottyLocks · 17/06/2011 19:47

Maybe we should start that trend. Go nicely with camper vans and glamping.

Report
KnottyLocks · 17/06/2011 19:49

Evening all!

I was actually planning to take the next blanket with me this weekend, I'll see if I can get some shots of it in various nice dubs (our camper is a bit scruffy, and the bug is staying home)

Blondes's blanket needs 7 1/2 squares of edging then ends sewing in, which should be about 2 hours work. I'll try and do more next week bastard bloody cold trying to become a chest infection grrrrrr

If anyone wants to come and say hello, I'll be here on Sunday - bring any car mad dads you know! DP will be in the commentary box so I'll be there all day to make cups of tea Grin

Pidge, you are truly fantastic. That is lovely. IIRC you said something about "it all merges into a sheet of awesome loveliness", and you were so right. How do you do it? The earlier pic showed my undersized square next to an oversized one, and yet here they are looking perfect!

While it's desperately sad that we made this blanket, I'm proud to have been involved in such a project.
