Are there any objections if I use the leftover wool from the Edgar and Rindercella blankets to make something for Blondes? I've got loads! Anyone with leftovers feel free to pm me about either sending it on or sending more squares :)

Make a cat poop....ours used to be a regular pooper in the mornings but now he goes any time, this morning he had an audience and dug out a huge pile of litter! Or cook a meal and that might spur the bowels on!!

KnottyLocks · 04/06/2011 13:58

PKM, thanks for that Grin

I haven't got a cat: allergic

I was refering to the knitted flowers I made that ended up looking more like cat poop.

purpleknittingmum · 04/06/2011 14:02

oops!! Blush Teach me to read threads more often!! :o

trumpton · 04/06/2011 14:07

Will get the next three for GG in post before we go away on Thurs. Gold stars all round ( can gold stars be round or do they have to be spikey ?)

purplepidjin · 04/06/2011 15:34

No rush, Trumpton. Gingegirl hasn't got back to us, and we're not going to push it. I've got my fingers crossed that no one needs another blanket for a very long while

MN stars have nice gentle rounded points because they are awarded for being kind and generous. None of this pointy poky nonsense Grin

purpleknittingmum · 04/06/2011 16:15

I assume the wool I have been sent is for GingerGirl? I have done one square already!

KnottyLocks · 04/06/2011 16:43

PKM, many of us have been knitting for Ginge's blanket too. If we don't hear from her, we'll keep the squares safely to be used at (hopefully) a much later date.

KnottyLocks · 04/06/2011 16:45

Agree about the friendly stars. If we wanted pokey, we'd be in AIBU.

purpleknittingmum · 04/06/2011 16:48

OK will do another couple and will wait to post until we know what is happening

purplepidjin · 04/06/2011 18:10

I have no doubt that the squares will be needed Sad

I really hope it's not for a very long time, and for a reason like old age Sad

Gingegirl has every right to deal with her grief in her own way, and her silence is, to me, an indication that MN is not part of that. So, please hold onto any wool and squares until the next person, who will be someone to whom MN support is vital.

Does that make sense? or just sound pompous and opinionated

purpleknittingmum · 04/06/2011 18:13

No worries, I thought I might have missed a thread about it

DutchOma · 04/06/2011 18:15

Makes perfecct sense to me Pidjin. I don't 'know' any of the people the blankets went to and don't know Ginge either, but if you are happy to hang on to any squares, I'm sure everybody would be happy that they are not, at the moment, needed.

mumatron · 04/06/2011 18:36

I finally managed to get my two balls of wool sent late last week.

So, so sorry for the delay. [Blush]

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/06/2011 18:38

i needed to like mia duh, now i can comment - can you tell im blonde Grin

regards ginge, we all deal with grief differently, and i for one am very touched that 'strangers' have been crocheting for me

i hope you dont need the squares for someone else , but sure you will :(

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/06/2011 19:09

Well I did wonder what you were on about/not commenting Hmm Grin

androbbob · 04/06/2011 21:12

Finally understood why blondes couldnt comment - was a bit concerned as she usually has no problem! The blanket is looking fantastically great and will be a lovely memory full of love and stuff

Where do I get one of these crochetty thingies? I have a ball of wool to play with - if I can buy one online then fabby. I assume they come in sizes like knotting needles? Can anyone link to an idiots guide - I have crochetted before with my granny but she is no longer with us.

trumpton · 04/06/2011 21:52

I like "Knotting" needles.Grin

keep · 05/06/2011 00:39

I still haven't posted mine. I will definately post on Monday. I have found pthis thread by googling mumsnet blondes as I couldn't find the thread that I was on originally.

I didn't realise it had to be 4mm crochet hook and I have used a 3.5 mm hook so hope they will be ok. I originally said I would make pink squares but I have used pink, blue and a light purple.

I have taken a two pictures and will add to my profile. Is this what you want as I am not 100% sure its what you want. I've made 4 squares and used Debbie bliss cashmerino.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/06/2011 00:53

omg - i am googleable as blondes Shock

im the hammy expert apparently !!

KnottyLocks · 05/06/2011 06:56

Keep, they are perfect Smile Thanks very much [BigFatGoldStar] Loving the shades btw: very mysterious Grin

I think we should adopt 'Knotting needles' immediately!

Androbbob, there are some tutorials on You Tube. And you'll be needing a crochet hook...google that and you'll find even Amazon sell them. If you've got a John Lewis nearby, they do them too. Strangely, I got mine in a local chemist that stocks cheap wool. Often charity shops have a pot of knotting needles and hooks tucked away somewhere - just check there are no jagged bits.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/06/2011 09:17

Can the star be big fat gold and twinkly?!
Obviously with no sharp edges so they aren't prickly?
[bigfatgoldtwinklystar]

purplepidjin · 05/06/2011 12:44

Keep, if they're between 4 and 6", squarish and made out of the right yarn, they're perfect. There is no specific square we're doing, each square represents the person who made it and none of us is the same thanks lucky stars 4mm hook was a recommendation for the inexperienced who needed specific information to help them get started.

Andro, try your local charity shops. You have to ask at the counter because knotting needles and crochet hooks are classed as a deadly weapon and stored out of sight Hmm Oh, and I think my approximate location is listed on MimaPants, if you're close enough for coffee...

OP posts:
androbbob · 05/06/2011 20:40

pidjin - bit too far for a coffee seeing as I am 'Up Norf'! Will try the charity shops first tomorrow - that is something we have a lot of in my town - there are 4 at least!

Knotting needles - what a typo! Which would be quite true if I had a go at knitting. Hence why I think crochet is the way to go as there is only one hooky thingy to get tangled with!

purplepidjin · 05/06/2011 21:10

Only 4 charity shops? I live in a tiny town and that's how many actually reliably stock wool and crafty bits! Mind you, I can see 2 Funeral Directors and Denture World from my front window...

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 06/06/2011 10:28

Ds has reliably demonstrated that it is perfectly reasonable to call them knotting needles if you use the circular ones....
