This broke my heart to read. The impact a child who chooses to declare themselves the opposite sex has on their mother in particular is brutal. I cannot imagine a world where my children would demand that I change my own history to bow to their indoctrination.

What if the same adult female decides she wants a limb removed because she believes she should be disabled?

I believe there are ethical standards that doctors have to follow that would prevent them from performing an unnecessary amputation. I don't know but people have unnecessary cosmetic surgery all the time.

Identity is a self determined phenomena based on subjective personal beliefs & values. In other words, you don't get decide for someone else who they are.

Nobody gets to decide who they are, people have personalities and characters, which are formed by nature and nurture, we don't have 'identities'.

GI is a political construct, it has no validity, it's pie in the sky delusion, it is not some sort of universal truth, it's just something else humans have made up. A fad and fancy, which will soon pass, leaving a lot of broken people in its wake.

Sex is immutable, someone born female/male will be a girl/boy during adolescence and a women/man during adulthood. It's a material reality that can't be changed by wishing on a star, or a cocktail of drugs, or mutilating surgery, and no amount of bullshit will change that.

My sympathy to the mother, it must be her worst nightmare, it must be akin to your child dying.

we don't have 'identities'.

Um, someone might need to tip of Cambridge, Oxford, Mem web etc etc dictionaries.

GI is a political construct, it has no validity,

And yet gender critical feminism is premised on sex stereotypes needing to be abolished. You might need a word with them since what they are fighting against 'doesn't exist'.

Nobody is saying reproductive sex can be changed.

Ever heard of a mother's 'unconditional love'? Apparently not.

Its strange how this has mutated isnt it? The rewriting history. I remember way back in the early 2000s a man at work came back after a sabbatical dressed as a woman and said he wanted to be known as Claire going forward becasue he'd been to Thailand and wanted to be treated as a woman now. But he was very clear that this was a new presentation going forward and that he had previously been the engineer known as Barry and often reminiced about things the gang of blokes had got up to. He was absolutely fine with people saying hey remember when you were still Barry and we did this or that.

Its the rewriting history and, even worse, changing birth certificates that really causes the damage here with relations with other people.

If only it were that simple. Tanya, who now wishes to be called Tom, is wanting others to call her Tom as that’s one way of getting affirmed as something she can never be. “My mum called me Tom, she thinks I’m a boy now!”
People who change their names because they don’t like their name usually choose the names associated with their sex, they don’t choose names usually associated to the opposite see.

So what if they think that?

Mum knows she is calling Tanya, Tom, because that is what her child wants to be called. Not because she believes her child is now male.

What you're highlighting is that mum is equally invested in showing her child that they aren't who they say they are as their child is invested in showing them that they are the opposite sex.

This, to me, is another ironic example of how this constant battle for control probably sparks some of this identity complex in the child.

If the author did not love her child, she would not be experiencing the feelings that she does.
Would you ‘unconditionally love’ your child if he turned out to be a rapist? A pedophile? A drugs baron?

If so, how?

How is gender associated to sex? What is the link between them?

The insistence that sex is not gender but is somehow related to it is what causes the confusion.

Why does a woman with a "man" gender identity take testosterone and have her breasts removed? Testosterone is a sex hormone, not a gender hormone. Breasts are secondary sex characteristics, not gender characteristics.

If sex and gender are totally different, why can't a woman with a "man" gender identity have a normal, unchanged female body?

I work with someone who has a "he/him" badge but has made no physical changes and makes no attempt to pass "culturally" as male. Once caught them in the staffroom eating from a pink lunchbox gossiping with other female staff.

Seems odd to me but they seem happy, do the job well and won't suffer any health consequences.

SwirlyGates · 28/10/2026 09:43

Glowingup · 28/10/2026 09:08

Actually, most trans people know they are not the opposite sex (there are some that are deluded on this point but most do). They prefer to present themselves physically as the opposite sex, so eg might have surgery to remove breasts or take hormones to stimulate beard growth. They want people to read them as the opposite sex and be referred to as such. Most people can manage that or at least make an effort to. Most people don't start wailing about how now they are deprived of talking about little Jessica in her pink tutu at ballet class because they realise it's not about them, it's about the trans person.

it's not about them, it's about the trans person.

Of course. It's always about the trans person. No one else counts, no one else is allowed an opinion, no one else is allowed to say, "This is not reality - when you were growing up you were a girl, you were not a boy." The other people are expected to rewrite their own history.

They want people to read them as the opposite sex

Why the hell should anyone have to play along with their delusions?

People who change their names because they don’t like their name usually choose the names associated with their sex, they don’t choose names usually associated to the opposite see.

There's literally so much overlap now with names, eg presumably you would be happy to call a female person Sam or Charlie because that could be short for Samantha or Charlotte? But you wouldn't call them Dave or Johnny? Because that doesn't really make sense.
There are females called Jamie, Taylor, Blake, Rowan and Jordan that could just as easily be names for males. Calling someone the name they prefer doesn't say anything about their sex. It's just a matter of respect that you call someone what they prefer to be called.

Pornification of women probably.

Who is it that is ‘pumping healthy breasts with silicone’? Surgeons making a fortune off the back of porn stereotyping what some women think some men want them to look like.

In this instance, the child is attempting to control the parent’s narrative. Tanya is still who she was when her mother named her, no name change will alter that reality. The name change will not be done in isolation, it will be alongside demands for using male pronouns, removal of evidence of one’s childhood as Tanya, demands to be bought clothes from male ranges (which in of itself isn’t an issue - girls should be able to wear clothes from boy suppliers), demands for puberty blockers, surgery and so on. That very first step of name changing is the very first step of what could be a very long journey to somewhere that does not exist.

Or because we have decided as a society that people can have extreme body modifcation if they are able to consent to it.

Funnywonder · 28/10/2026 09:47

Unbeknownst to the parents, a trans identifying child, with affirmative input from online sources and from the carefully curated people with whom they socialise, creates a whole new identity inside their head. It’s like a Minecraft world, springing up and blossoming and expanding. They then present this world, ready formed, to their parents, and those parents are supposed to be delighted that their child has found this wonderful utopia. They aren’t supposed to ask questions, express doubt, feel fear. There is no period of adjustment for them. That would be transphobic. It has to be immediate joy and acceptance or their child might disown them, or worse. I have seen this happen with my own eyes and watched as a mum was basically told, by medical professionals, that her feelings were irrelevant. That she needed to get with the programme and suck it up. The drive to corral parents into immediate acceptance is utterly disgraceful.

Perhaps those kids in care actually have more freedom to be open about whatever gender related issues they have.

Kids who still live at home have to wait until the independence of adulthood to be able to be open about their feelings.

All of these kids might well have dysfunctional upbringing as you suggest, though.

It would be unlikely that only the trans kids in care have this problem and the ones raised in at home were perfectly functional. It just means we don't know what was happening behind closed doors.

Seriously? That's your take on all this?

We know so much about children in care as their outcomes are so closely measured. Because it turns out that being alienated from your family does massive damage to their lives and their futures - not just academically but in terms of mental health, likely to be homeless and other life measures.

It's why transactivism should be nowhere near this vulnerable group. Too late now of course and the damage these cynical grifting activists have done is immeasurable.

Why do so many girls in Blackpool want to become boys?

In this run-down, working class seaside resort, rife with child abuse and poverty, referrals to gender clinics are almost four times higher than the national average. Why?

Do you think it’s a ‘rigid conservative view’ to oppose the removal you your daughter’s healthy breasts and reproductive organs, or your son’s healthy penis and testicles?

Not at all. What I think is rigid is not being open to the possibility that trans is valid identity not a perverse indoctrinated one.

Would you think the same if your son or daughter wanted their arms removed because they loathed them? Or they wanted to be able to get morphine on repeat prescription because it made them feel fantastic? Or their child had developed anorexia and they tried to get help to stop starving to death?

This irrational response is indicative of those who can't fathom the possibility of the psychological interchangeabilty between men & women that manifests in socially non conforming gendered expressions so much so they confuse that with psychological illness.

he possibility of the psychological interchangeabilty between men & women that manifests in socially non conforming gendered expressions

Not only is it possible, it is (IMHO) true. Men and women each have a broad spectrum of personalities and psychologies, and the male and female spectrums overlap, so that some men and some women are pretty much psychologically interchangeable. This may or may not manifest in socially non conforming gendered expressions.
Furthermore, men and women who are distinctly different from each other psychologically (i.e. not within the overlap of the male and female psychologies) can also manifest socially non conforming gendered expressions.

I grew up in the eighties at the height of the new romantic craze - it was utterly normal for teenage boys to wear make up and frilly clothes.

Socially non-conforming gender expressions are not a mental illness.

Believing you are born in "the wrong body" and believing you can "change sex" may well be signs of a mental illness.

Someone who is trans will never not be trans. All they can do is go back in the closet. So either the parent wants their kid back in the closet, or to pretend?

Not true. Many have realized that they are not really trans and detransition.
Many are also sueing the people who did crap to them when they were too young to consent.
I hope they all win millions.

P.S. The term "cis" does not exist. Just another made-up term so the trans community can label others.

Is pink for girls?

No, of course a male person can enjoy pink.

But if you don't make physical changes to appear "male" and don't try and pass "culturally" as a male then what is it that makes you call yourself "a man"?

You might as well call yourself a higapolott as call yourself a man when you've stripped the word "man" of any meaning.
