This broke my heart to read. The impact a child who chooses to declare themselves the opposite sex has on their mother in particular is brutal. I cannot imagine a world where my children would demand that I change my own history to bow to their indoctrination.

Yes. That's why the terms cis and trans exist in the first place.

No dear. The term ‘cis’ was introduced to further the falsehood that there are two types of each sex - the sex you were born as and the sex you have ‘transitioned’ into.
Then it was pushed into the education system in order to brainwash young children, that there are in fact these different types of each sex. The irony comes when the introduction of ‘non-binary’ as a category was introduced. After all, there’s no such category as ‘cis non-binary’, just plain old NB. How does that work then?

No it's not, they are latin terms mening 'same side' as and 'across from' stolen from science to describe molecular configurations and attempted to be shoehorned into discussion about human beings. There are no cis people, only biological males an females. If trans identifying people want to other themselves with the 'trans' moniker which literally describes them as not the same as women or men, then that's up to them. Women don't require and dont agree to a superfluous term being applied to them. You would think people who are so upset about dead naming would be sympathetic to other people saying the way they are describing them is offensive wouldnt you?

Identity is a self determined phenomena based on subjective personal beliefs & values. In other words, you don't get decide for someone else who they are
Can I identify as having Down Syndrome? As being king of England? As being Black?
I believe I am, therefore everyone must agree with me.

Typically 'identifying' means a rational connection with 'associative traits'. In other words there needs to be some common association (qualifying criteria) & for trans people that's a gender category.

One can't rationally identify as DS or the king of England with out the qualifying criteria involved of either DS or royalty.

So do you think a lot of the posters here with trans children gave those children a dysfunctional childhood?

Sadly, with the medical route having been instant affirmation at all costs, Dr Sam Hall is a case in point, we’ll never know!

"Transgender people change their birth certificates so their legal sex marker matches their gender identity, which helps prevent confusion, privacy issues, and discrimination when using identification documents. 1, 2, "

Sex is fixed.
You cannot change biological sex.
Men cannot become women despite clothes/make/up/hormones and a bad dress sense.
They're still men.
Possibly gay/bisexual or even just a little effeminate.
Which is all perfectly fine.
Still men though.
Never women.

It’s always about the trans person. Everyone else has to buy into the fantasy otherwise they’re transphobic, and parents should just put up and shut up, and bury their shared histories with their children to align with their choices. The lack of empathy is astounding.

Well when it comes to name etc, yes, it's about the person concerned, not others. Someone's wish to be referred to as Tom will always trump my desire to refer to them as Tanya, even if I was the person who named them.

I haven't read the piece or rtft but I am very much enjoying the discussion. I wanted to drop a couple of thoughts down before I head out on my travels today and catch up with it all later on.

Firstly, our identity isn't formed in isolation. It is relational. I am a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, an auntie, a niece. A trans person wishes to unilaterally redefine all those relationships based on their own self-perception.

Also, in order to accept a male person as a woman or a female person as a man, the trans viewpoint asks us to change our understanding of what it is to be a man or a woman.

We should never have given our young people, or anyone for that matter, the impression that these demands are perfectly reasonable to make on others.

The OP was talking about data shows that children in the care of the state, children with sex offending parents are over represented in the cohort of gender confused children.
I'm not sure I'd always hold parents of children in care solely responsible for that - while most children will be in care because they come from abusive, neglectful, uncaring parents, some will be there for other reasons - parental illness and death etc

Blimey, ChatGPT is working hard for you today!
The King of England is male, ergo all males have that qualifying criteria.
Down Syndrome people have a learning disability, ergo everyone with a learning disability has that qualifying criteria.
What about Black people?

Yeah, as I said, some are delusional and maybe IW is playing up on it as rage-bait too. However, if an adult female wants to have a mastectomy for psychological reasons and wants to be referred to by a male name, then that choice is theirs. Yes, you can refuse to respect it but the outcome is likely to be as with the author of the piece, that the person distances themselves from you.

What if the same adult female decides she wants a limb removed because she believes she should be disabled?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 28/10/2026 09:30

Identity is a self determined phenomena based on subjective personal beliefs & values. In other words, you don't get decide for someone else who they are.

Nobody gets to decide who they are, people have personalities and characters, which are formed by nature and nurture, we don't have 'identities'.

GI is a political construct, it has no validity, it's pie in the sky delusion, it is not some sort of universal truth, it's just something else humans have made up. A fad and fancy, which will soon pass, leaving a lot of broken people in its wake.

Sex is immutable, someone born female/male will be a girl/boy during adolescence and a women/man during adulthood. It's a material reality that can't be changed by wishing on a star, or a cocktail of drugs, or mutilating surgery, and no amount of bullshit will change that.

My sympathy to the mother, it must be her worst nightmare, it must be akin to your child dying.

Well balanced, functional kids dont think they are in the wrong body. Kids that have been told that from a young age do.

Limeandfigs · 28/10/2026 08:37

The author grew her daughter in her womb, birthed her, named her, raised her. The daughter is telling her that that’s all a lie.

Well no, the daughter isn't. Has she accused the mother of not birthing her, naming her, or raising her?

Let's not exaggerate.

If the daughter now believes he is a son, "he" is telling the mother that she birthed him, named him, raised him.
That is the lie.

Glowingup · 28/10/2026 09:33

hastenotwaste · 28/10/2026 09:15

You really seem unable to recognise that the mother is a person in her own right. Your language is deliberately condescending and (probably deliberately) missing the point. I know a trans person who has completely rewritten his history including a fictitious account of how when we were at school together, we (girls) recognised him as one of us. It's all bollocks and I refuse to accept it. I don't know what his mother feels about it but I can tell you I would never agree to go along with a reinterpretation of what my own lived past experience is. That way madness lies. Literally.

How do I not recognise that the mother is a person in her own right? Of course she is. She has a choice, as does the trans person. The mother can choose to refuse completely to use a new name and pronouns and the trans person can choose to limit the relationship they have with their mother because she insists on bringing up things she knows upsets them. I guess it depends whether the mother prefers to have a relationship with their child or whether she prefers to be 'morally right'.

Waitingfordoggo · 28/10/2026 09:33

Lexibletheflexible · 28/10/2026 09:21

On trans reddit UK, I read someone say that it was their mother's behaviour over their lifetime that convinced them they couldn't be a woman like she is. I know women who believe their sex has been central in forming all of their views and opinions and therefore, all (real) women will feel as they do.

That must be an incredible amount of pressure when you are a girl and being parented by a woman like that. Someone who believes that you are somehow faulty when you don't see the world as she does, or share her hopes and dreams.

I can understand why you might think that I must be more like the other type of people (men) if I'm not a woman like her.

Then you do believe that someone can be influenced to believe that they are trans? Whether that is by an online community, a therapist or a parent.

Or you don’t believe that? What you’re saying isn’t very clear.

If only it were that simple. Tanya, who now wishes to be called Tom, is wanting others to call her Tom as that’s one way of getting affirmed as something she can never be. “My mum called me Tom, she thinks I’m a boy now!”
People who change their names because they don’t like their name usually choose the names associated with their sex, they don’t choose names usually associated to the opposite see.

Perhaps those kids in care actually have more freedom to be open about whatever gender related issues they have.

Kids who still live at home have to wait until the independence of adulthood to be able to be open about their feelings.

All of these kids might well have dysfunctional upbringing as you suggest, though.

It would be unlikely that only the trans kids in care have this problem and the ones raised in at home were perfectly functional. It just means we don't know what was happening behind closed doors.

@Twoallbeepattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepickles any thoughts on what Sam Hall did? Unlawfully doling out medication to minors?

Rephased:

The longer one posts on FWR, the more obvious it is when someone is no longer arguing from a place of honest engagement. When someone who may have joined with the best of intentions has become lost in the need to score points post by post and win rather than grow, learn and move forward.

If someone's previous posts demonstrate some very very weird ideas about women, about how we live and how we relate to the world and to each other.

If actual women tell a poster that what they are asserting our feelings or motivations are are nothing like our lived reality and their response is that we are wrong about our own lives.

If thousands and thousands of previous posts all go the same way to attest to this.

When this is the pattern, no matter what a poster may claim, by their actions it is clear they have no interest in exploring what it's actually like to be female, they just want for their own reasons to shout us down.

Eventually that same old derision for women is always going to come out. And we all have far better things to do with our time than engage with the same old drivel.
