This broke my heart to read. The impact a child who chooses to declare themselves the opposite sex has on their mother in particular is brutal. I cannot imagine a world where my children would demand that I change my own history to bow to their indoctrination.

I think she meant that all of her sons are ND but her daughter isn’t. Bit of a Freudian slip there eh?

That's assuming TPA has any kids at all. Which I'm afraid I don't.

Ahhh so you do understand what gender identity means but think the consequences of competing priorities invalidate it? Sorry that's not how the world works nor logic.

You act as if civilised society isn't structured to deal with competing priorities that arise from group differences when this has long been established in law under special exemptions that facilitate rights balancing.

You also act as if conflict in interests invalidates minorities right to advocate & agitate for their rights, another egalitarian no no.

You don't seem to understand the principles of modern liberal democracies that include that everyone has the opportunity to challenge the status quo whether that ruffles some feathers or not.

You use euphemisms like "competing priorities" and "rights balancing", I note you also invoke "civilised societies" and "liberal democracies", as though these are the preferred tools of the TRAs.
How then does "no debate" and "kill all TERFs" fit into your logic?
Why must women compete for womens rights with men?
What don't the trans community "balance" those rights by saying that, given gender identity is not related to sex, women should not have to argue about our sex-based spaces, services and sports?
The reason you can't answer this is that at the end of the day, trans people don't want thier own rights balanced with womens rights, they simply want our rights, and they want these so that we can be coerced into validating their delusions, and some of them want them because they want access to naked and vulnerable women, and children.
There is nothing civil about it. And the way it has been underhandedly accomplished does not represent liberal democracy either. More like radical left dictatorship.

You don't seem to understand the principles of modern liberal democracies that include that everyone has the opportunity to challenge the status quo whether that ruffles some feathers or not.

Just because a group challenges the status doesn't mean they have the right to change said quo. The rest of the people have the right to respond to the challenge and if they think the challenge is based on a batshit crazy stupidity they're gonna resist the challenge and the status quo will remain.

You're to focused on the word gender you should spend sometime considering the word critical, it might open up a whole new world of understanding for you.

Women's rights campaigners have been challenging the status quo for decades, girls who like to climb and play football are still girls, because girls can do 'boy coded' things too it and it doesn't make them boys.

Men who think they're women, 'identify' with the stereotypical version of a woman, that women rejected years ago, the one that was imposed on them by a male dominated society.

If it isn’t an illness, why does it need off licensed drugs and irreversible surgeries to make people who believe they are something they can never be feel happy? Why does it need those people threaten to kill themselves if they can’t get what they want? Or self harm if their parent refuses to use opposite sex pronouns? That sure sounds like someone in the midst of a significant mental illness to me.

People wanting their inner world align with their out world is as old as time. You act as if the denial of self expression, see: repression doesn't have any real world mental health consequences for the general population. That suicidal ideation & self harm isn't a consequence of repression.

Trans people suffering life long mental health challenges is directly correlated to social acceptance. Social & familial rejection is a widely accepted suicide risk factor for the general population so why wouldn’t suicidality apply to trans people particularly since trans people face multiple suicide risk factors like unemployment, addiction & mental health problems.

So to reduce suicidality of trans people to only being about pronouns or HRT is simply false.

I think she meant that all of her sons are ND but her daughter isn’t. Bit of a Freudian slip there eh?

Wow! You’re right!

I honestly think some parents, a teeny tiny teeny number thankfully, are almost gunning for their child to be trans identifying. For the attention. To be different. The poster on here @TransParentlyAnnoyed even refers to it in her username. And hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of posts all about her child. She lives and breathes it.

It is not healthy and would indicates the mental health illness angle to this entire debate is not just limited to the child.

And then you get the likes of @Twoallbeepattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepickles who actually have no direct experiences of the issue whatsoever. They describe themself as a ”debate pervert” and instead just wade in to threads on the issue, make a fool of themselves and then just move on to another one.

So you concur trans is part of a mental illness? @Twoallbeepattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepickles are you a reincarnation of our old adversary Lacksie? You certainly keep the 24/7 postings going. 'Trans' people's mental health issues are connected to the fact they can't accept the reality of who they are, they're trying to be something there not. If they have trouble finding employment it's because the issues they've failed to address make them unemployable. It's not society's fault, they won't accept the help they need so they bring it on themselves.

Agree @TheywontletmehavethenameIwant which highlights the overvalued belief of trans. Most humans go through life with some degree of questioning who they are before sensibly accepting who they are. Trans people seem incapable of accepting reality. Bob from accounts declaring he has always felt female and presenting at work as Brenda simply unable to face he has succumbed to his paraphilia. Young girl, tomboy likely lesbian daunted by body changes in puberty and perhaps conditioned to homophobia so not able to accept she is a lesbian is simply unable to face reality.

Most of us do not have the luxury to believe we are so special everyone has to step in line with our beliefs.

Gender identification (identifying with socially constructed sex stereotypes) isn't rocket science nor is it false & given that even gender critical feminists acknowledge it exists as the resistance to it underpins their whole ideology.

Its simply a matter of wanting to express gender associations & live ones life in that identity....a thing that most cis people do anyway we just don't label ourselves that way.

I like it to explain it this way: If trans people never called themselves trans gender but just expressed their gendered inclinations would it be so problematic then? According to gender critical feminists that's what they want.

So what are we really arguing about here? Semantics? Word ownership?

Much ado….

You surely can't be so limited in reasoning that you're unable see what you are saying here?

If a man declares he is a woman and then uses gender stereotyping to show the world that he's a woman he is entrenching female stereotyping and pushing women who have fought against it back in time.

If a man declares he is a man and chooses to dress in the stereotype of a woman then he is breaking down gender stereotypes for men and women.

Quite @Soontobe60 How on earth did we all manage to distinguish men and woman from transvestites and tom boy girls through the 60’s 70’s 80’s and most of the 90’s without the term?

Oh I know, we could see reality with our own eyes and the internet had not fried our brains.

One of the issues that detransitioners talk about is the cult aspect of this phenomenon. They are often vulnerable in the first place, frequently autistic, in care, isolated in some way, not one of the cool kids in school.
To be part of a cult is to finally socially belong. Their parent is often quite similar - few friends, no one chatting to them at the school gates. So suddenly to be part of the chosen few where no one dares to say ‘don’t be daft, you’re a girl not a boy’ gives them a sense of being special. It’s euphoric. The trans lobby has invaded schools, the NHS, emergency services and many other organisations. Girls get to be seen as special now, not outsiders whilst boys get free access to girl only spaces - there’s many a straight 14 year old boy who would love to be able to get changed for PE with the girls to get a flash of a bra and knickers! And for those 14 year old boys who are gay, well it’s far safer to be in the girls changing room than those awful boys who will taunt him for being gay.
For too long we have been so indoctrinated by TRAs to believe the ‘born in the wrong body’ nonsense that we’ve been afraid to challenge it for fear of being seen as a bigot. So the issues these vulnerable children have are not being addressed, they’re being covered up under the guise of being trans.
Shame on everyone who’s fallen for this. Your daughter can dress like a boy, cut her hair and breasts off, given herself a boys name but she will always be female, always be a daughter / sister / niece /mother.

what rights? ‘Trans women’ are men - they have all the rights and privileges they need, they have never had those rights attacked or reduced…

those rights do not include entering women’s spaces - never have, never will.

so ‘trans women’ are not a minority oppressed and persecuted fighting to have access to their own rights… they are a minority of misogynistic bullies who are fighting to take over women’s rights / stop women having rights in addition to all the rights they have already as men…

they do not have a right so hard fought for to be seen in ‘their gender identity’ by faking being women, by requiring others to play the same game of make believe, by sexually provoking women in changing rooms, by encouraging child abuse in physical, mental and sexual ways

If they want to make use of their right to pee as who they are - use the gents, they have always had that right and as they are still men, that right remains the same…

I am glad you recognise that we are in
a democracy - in which case you will understand the need to obey the law - which has been recently clarified for the hard of comprehension - men and women can not change sex and they don’t enter each other’s spaces - not tricky and I am glad that you support the democratically agreed statement that a trans women is a man.

if you want to challenge the democratically agreed status quo - do it through democracy, through parliament and change the law… you don’t do it by aggressively bullying people and lying to them - that is not democracy

As for gender identity - if a man wants to do things that are stereotypically seen as feminine, crack on - wear a skirt, carry a handbag, put on make up - no-one cares - but they are not being a woman, they are simply gender-non-conforming and expanding what it means to be a man - that is great…

but stop the lies about actually being a woman, stay out of women’s spaces - a trans woman is a man and has no rights to either claim to be a woman or to pretend to be a woman and use their spaces

Well said @Soontobe60

Everything you wrote in that post makes complete sense and could simply be the public service announcement we need to quell the current madness.

Years ago we all knew these people existed. I am not convinced all this trans inclusion has helped them at all. It has certainly dropped a grenade into many workplaces and families.

🙄

Apologies folks, I forgot I was dealing with ancient cultural relics from a distant past.

For those not in the know of internet debate lore, "debate pervert" was a term coined by the famous US leftist political streamer Hasan Piker as a defence of why he refused to debate other more successful political debaters Destiny & Vaush claiming their tactics were purely bad faith sophistry rather than genuine engagement. But the facts are these successful debaters primarily use philosophical logic that focus on evaluating the structure of the argument rather than just yelling or using emotional tricks like examining premises and conclusions, testing for deductive validity & avoiding fallacies.

In other words poor old Hassan didn't have the philosophical chops to manage these guys & coped his way out by claiming bad faith trickery. A lot like what is going on here when the incessant fallacies are exposed.

I use the term as an ironical nod to this affair & its relevance here.

Edited

...ancient cultural relics...

Might get that put on a T-shirt to go with the 'rights hoarding dinosaur' one.

@akkakk brilliant post. Do sometimes wonder if some posters actually lived through the pre internet era. We all knew the local pervert and avoided him. We all knew the odd misfits and often tried to be kind and include them but invariably they had a superiority complex (but were very fragile indeed reality). We all knew the eccentric woman wedded to her youthful makeup and hair do even though she looked ridiculous. We all knew there are multiple ways to present as human without labels such as trans.

Many of us, me included grew up at the end of punk and through the 80’s New Romantic era. Boys dressed effeminately girls androgynously. But we knew who the girls were and the boys without adding a complex and unnecessary layer called ‘identity’. It is such a self entitled over valued concept.

Yes, but you are forgetting Hayley from Coronation Street.

A male character who 'sex changed' into a woman - played by a woman.

It's amazing to me how much of a long game has been played here.

The Hayley character being played by a woman would now be seen as 'transphobic'.

Its simply a matter of wanting to express gender associations & live ones life in that identity....a thing that most cis people do anyway we just don't label ourselves that way.

This may be what you do. You can't extrapolate from that single example to assume it's what most people do. It isn't.

Of course that wouldn't be a problem. As JK Rowling put it:

Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.

But sex is real. Men are not women and never can be women.

Waitingfordoggo · Yesterday 08:26

I’m really surprised that @Twoallbeepattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepickles admitted that being ‘trans’ is simply performing opposite sex stereotypes. TRAs normally reject that suggestion don’t they? (Instead they claim it’s a mysterious inner essence or brain difference). And of course if that is all trans is, then surgery, medication and sharing single sex spaces are all completely inappropriate and unnecessary.

BlueLegume · Yesterday 08:31

I do think the ‘educate yourself’ cliche of TRAs and allies has really backfired. We quietly went away and DID educate ourselves. Our education made us realise that reality rules. However the trans thing has generated a heck of a load of money by creating nonsense diagnoses, medication and surgery and also therapy. Let’s be honest this has been a massive extortion scheme which has captured the globe all relying heavily on the mantra of ‘be kind’.

I like to remind people of something that's really odd for something that's supposedly spontaneously occurring.

Gay people come from all walks of life and have a full range of interests and political views.

What's really uncanny about trans culture is just how narrow it is.

When you go on social media you have bombarded with Japanese anime and kawaii profiles and anime and kawaii feature very heavily. You also have a very narrow band of political views.

This isn't normal for something that's spontaneous in a population. You wouldnt get this same degree of lack of diversity. Not only that but diversity is actively actually discouraged into an narrow band of what's acceptable to wear and to think. That puts it very firmly into a phenomena which is culturally and socially driven not some that occurs naturally.

When you scratch at this, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Weirdly enough these gaming and anime cultures are somewhat two faced in that many people do accept trans people blindly. But I've also heard the turfiest of comments from the same community. What happens is they only voice these type of opinions in 'safe company'. Then it can be some of the most cutting and fed up comments you will hear for having to put up with bullshit behaviour which these people are the most exposed to.

I think the potential for backlash amongst this community, despite it's accepting nature is high. The only thing that protects it, is the fear of ostracism.
