Why, just why??? Why does something as pure as remembrance need to be politicised with trans and queer ideology? Or am I being unreasonable to be triggered?!

RBL Pride Poppy Badge

All profits from the Royal British Legion Pride Poppy Badge will go towards the Royal British Legion's work in supporting the Armed Forces community.

Because for the millionth time, this is a board to talk about sex and gender. It isn't a GC board. Therefore, people who are not GC are not disrupting. They are just contributing. This is another example of someone insinuating that GC views hold higher ground here when the staff have clearly stated they do not. They're just as welcome to be expressed.

What was a simple act of remembrance, of thanks and gratitude, has been commercialised in to crass and tatty tribalism. 👎

Lexibletheflexible · 27/10/2026 07:24

So to be clear, are some people saying there shouldnt be one for Black soldiers?

Apparently there's even one for animals & yet the LGBTQ community doesn't 'deserve' one for their contributions?

What the Poppies Mean

  • Red Poppy: The standard symbol to remember those who died or suffered in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations, while symbolizing hope for a peaceful future.
  • White Poppy: Represents a focus on peace, commemorating all victims of war, including civilians as well as military personnel.
  • Purple Poppy: Specifically honors the animals that served, suffered, or died during military conflicts.
  • Black Poppy: Commemorates African, Black, and Caribbean communities, as well as all soldiers, civilians, and conscientious objectors affected by the legacy of war. 1, 2, 3]

Poppies for Remembrance

Most people think there is only one poppy to be worn for remembrance, but, in reality, there are four Remembrance Poppies which can be worn: Red, White, Purple and Black. Each with its own special meaning.

Yes I know what the Black poppy is for. I was the one who posted it first.

I'm just trying to clarify if people think all the "niche" poppies are a bad thing, or just the Pride one

Yup & well said I wasn't aware of that till you pointed it out. I was just adding to that the point about animals.

Chersfrozenface · 27/10/2026 07:40

Once again, the purple poppy for animals and the black remembrance poppy are NOT official British Legion badges.

The "Progress" flag badge IS.

NotBadConsidering · 27/10/2026 07:40

It’s not like a black poppy or a white poppy or a purple poppy, it’s a normal poppy with that ghastly modern day flag that represents a sexist, misogynistic, homophobic ideology tagged onto the side of it.

Presumably they had to tag the ghastly flag onto it because they couldn’t just have rainbow poppy, they had to have the trans colours and the DSD-appropriation symbol on it. There’s obviously no room for that on a normal poppy, so you can see the machinations in the design process of how they couldn’t dare risk offending trans people by having their colours teeny tiny. So instead they came up with that ugly merged option instead.

I bet our resident TRAs can’t name a single trans soldier or DSD soldier who has died in battle serving the UK.

But sure, let’s tag the ugly flag onto the side of a symbol of tragedy and remembrance to show how “inclusive” we are 🙄

Do you think that might be because you couldn't be out and in the military until relatively recently?

There is this guy in America who has done heaps for queer soldiers like himself. His name is Fred is think and he fought in WW2.

Who couldn’t be out and in the military? Homosexual people? Sure.

But that tagged-on flag doesn’t represent people who hid their same-sex attraction, it represents men who say they are lesbians, autogynephiles, and men who don’t respect women’s boundaries.

I would fully support an LGB Alliance-backed campaign to recognise those who served and died while having to keep their sexual orientation secret.

It also supports women who believe they are men.

Do you think you could be out as a trans woman in the 30s while in the army, but not as a gay man?

😂😂😂 by “support” presumably you mean token mentions when push comes to shove?

Do you think you could be out as a trans woman in the 30s while in the army, but not as a gay man?

Why does that matter? The idea there was a load of “in the closet” trans identifying men serving in WW2 who tragically couldn’t “come out” before they died and need retrospective acknowledgement in the form of a modern day men’s rights activist flag is a bit silly.

I dont think there were a load. There were likely some. The US have loads. Very patriotic people the US trans community.

When the army has policies that are inclusive of trans people, those policies apply to trans men, too.

NotBadConsidering · 27/10/2026 08:11

Sure, “loads” 😂 I look forward to the next HBO WW2 drama Band of Brothers/Sisters.

Good for those policies. Modern day trans activism represented by that flag treats actual women as second class citizens, even those who say they’re trans. We all know that.

It also co-opts the representation of black people and people with DSDs.

The poppy should be something that unites us. A reminder that war hurts everyone. Why must its symbolism be sub-divided into special interest groups? That's contrary to the whole poppy spirit.

Couldn’t agree more 👍🏻

No it doesn't as previously posted on this and a core facet of FWR - ie that sex is the basis of discrimination, and this reality it diluted, hijacked by the whole rainbow umbrella politics of "Pride".

It is a forced pairing of 2 opposing understanding of biological reality.

And it is absolutely clear that money going to Pride groups means that you are funding groups who do not respect the boundaries of lesbians and gay men.

Seems really strange to have to spell this out on FWR.

But surely in this case all profits are going to RBL. Not to Pride groups.

If RBL is making these badges then I presume there's enough demand for them to turn a profit. If they're going to print one for football teams then why not have one with a pride flag, it all goes to the RBL.

Datun · 27/10/2026 09:18

Of course it's divisive, it's meant to be divisive. That's the whole point. And yes, it's much more about the person wearing it, than remembering the dead.

Women weren't allowed to fight in the war either. Half the bloody population, never mind transvestites.

Let's just turn the entire thing into a political rally.

What in holy hell is this monstrosity???
janeszebra · 27/10/2026 09:33

One poppy badge is enough. Labels and separate badges are nothing but divisive.

BackToLurk · 27/10/2026 09:36

I don’t like the enamel badges full stop. To me it defeats the purpose of buying one each year to remember, if that’s your thing.

Yes, they can be expressed, and within the rules, the same as for every other contributor; though it is important to relaise that you will always be in a minority due to the formation and history of this particular forum. Many people have come to this board over the years not only to challenge, but to antagonise or to wilfully troll...and yes, to act as disruptors. Why else would someone choose to post on a board in which they already knew they would be a reatively lone voice ( and then complain when they find themselves overwhelmed by responses and requests)?

Because the site itself is aimed at parents. Not GC parents. So people who go on the site for other reasons might happen upon this part of the site. They could have any type of view on matters related to sex and gender.

Would you stop posting if the majorty of people on this board didn't have GC views? Would you stop posting your own opinions?

A fool and his money are soon parted

if it gets people to donate who otherwise wouldn’t , that’s not a bad thing

No doubt the rainbow brigade will be up in arms about it’s very existence owing to historic/existing homophobia in the armed forces and it being apparently hypocritical
