Why, just why??? Why does something as pure as remembrance need to be politicised with trans and queer ideology? Or am I being unreasonable to be triggered?!

RBL Pride Poppy Badge

All profits from the Royal British Legion Pride Poppy Badge will go towards the Royal British Legion's work in supporting the Armed Forces community.

I don't follow you, what values would we not be defending?

Egalitarianism.

An incompetent underfunded health system is hardly evidence of the invalidity of gender identity.

Eh? having special poppies is saying that some people are more special than others. Those aren't my values.

No just the opposite. The poppy also symbolises our values & what we lost because of them. The pride flag is simply an extension of that.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Saying that men are women and allowing them to push women out wherever they fancy is a perfect example of the opposite of egalitarianism.

They were selling these last year. When I went to buy a poppy last year they'd obviously been sent a tray of them and somehow🤔 everyone of them had been turned face down.

I've never actually seen anyone wearing one.

It just looks so ugly too. Horrible colours and a phallic shape.
Just a plain, red poppy is all that is neeed. Anything else looks like it is more about the wearer than the people who died.

Why do you continually try to silence debate from women who disagree with your extreme views? It's quite odd.

You’re right about this - on most threads. But on this thread it is relevant.

Thank you! I thought maybe it was just me that saw the phallic shape! As an American, I had never seen that specific two-petalled design for the red poppy before, so the first thing I saw was....... 😬

Nice to see The A Team get a nod though.

I have a purple one, which apparently is for animals.

What you say makes absolutely no sense. I have te read it several times just discover what you are trying to say.

The pride flag has it's place in today's society, for celebration of a minority, for rallying together etc. etc.

Remembrance is not the place. All should be equal, all should be honoured equally. It's not the place for making political points. I have said my views, we disagree, let's leave it at that.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/10/2026 00:25

The Dickin medal. Mostly won by pigeons iirc. Probably stop them flying, so kept in the loft.

I think all the different designs for the poppy miss the point. The poppy stands for all those that fought and suffered/are suffering in wars. All these different designs. Some of them seem so niche I can only think they sell one or two of them. Perhaps they're aimed at collectors?

Now you mention it, the progress one is rather phallic.

Part of living in an egalitarian society means giving individuals & groups the opportunity to advocate for their rights. And it's not as if competing rights that arise from group interests can't be managed via rights balancing in the legal system. You seem to be espousing the antithesis of this system which is spectacularly ironic on a thread about the sacrifices made to protect western values & principles.

These people literally can't cope living outside of an echo chamber.

Promoting censorship of free speech on a thread about the sacrifices our soldiers made to defend western values & principles no less. The absence of self awareness is off the charts.

It makes no sense to you because your understanding of what the pride flag means as only a celebration is limited to say the least. Acceptance & equality which the pride flag promotes are directly associated with egalitarianism…a foundational principle of western liberal societies. Y'know the thingy our soldiers fought for.

No you are wrong. Poppy day is about remembrance and remembrance only. Anything else dilutes the purpose.

Minorities have every other day of the year to push for what they want. They need to know when to just sit down and shut up.

Remember exactly what? Remember people sacrificed their lives for what?

"For the freedom we hold so lightly, they paid the heaviest price. Lest we forget."

The idea that we aren't supposed to reflect on the reason for the sacrifice is not only ludicrous but false given the above statement that is widely used at that time.

One of the reasons being equality, and you can't get more equal than one Poppy to represent all.

Oh so now there is a reason is there? Thank you. But clearly a poppy isn't enough given you needed to be prompted for the reason.

I have to say I dont usually worry too much about poppies and have always felt it should be a personal choice, not being forced to wear a poppy (like presenters on tv).

The web site is so badly designed and not helpful but have found this, in terms of "official poppies" as opposed to those on sale as money spinners. ie getting football fans to buy something they wouldn't normally care about.

Who Owns the "Official" Poppy Colours?

The four colours are distinct entities run by different groups:

  • Red: The trademarked emblem of the Royal British Legion. It specifically honors British and Commonwealth Armed Forces veterans and their families. 1]
  • Purple: Run by the War Horse Memorial (formerly Animal Aid). It honors the animal victims of war. The RBL permits them to use the word "poppy," but it is not an RBL product. 1, 2]
  • Black: Designed by the independent organisation BlackPoppyRose to commemorate Black, African, Caribbean, and Indigenous contributions to the war effort. 1, 2]
  • White: Distributed by the Peace Pledge Union as a symbol of pacifism and remembering all victims of war, including civilians. 1, 2]

While no new standalone colours have been introduced, you may be seeing new multi-coloured variants or material changes on the RBL website:

  • The Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag Poppy: The RBL sells an official Pride Flag Poppy Badge in their online shop. It keeps the traditional red poppy structure but layers the LGBTQ+ flag beneath or beside it to honour queer servicemen and women.
  • The Green Leaf and Stem Redesign: In late 2023, the RBL launched its first completely plastic-free paper poppy. Because it is made entirely of paper, the traditional black plastic stem was replaced with a green paper leaf and stem, making the final piece look more visually two-toned (red and green) than older variations.
  • The Khadi Poppy: Though launched slightly before 2022 (for the 2018 centenary), the RBL still features the Khadi Poppy. It is the traditional red colour but hand-woven from South Asian khadi cotton to recognise the massive contribution of Indian soldiers in WWI. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

But as the web site promote badges by favourites, etc., they dont help themselves or those who want to at least see the core values.

Late update! Apparently the Pride Poppy was created as part of the atonement of acknowledging the active discrimination against gay men and lesbians in the armed forces. So as such (IMO) should not be a "Pride" flag but an LGB Flag.

So basically Stonewall politics won over LGB Alliance politics at RBL HQ!

Hmmm I would probably were the white poppy to be honest.

The poppy should be something that unites us. A reminder that war hurts everyone. Why must its symbolism be sub-divided into special interest groups? That's contrary to the whole poppy spirit.
