…Who’s stuck in the past. To be ‘cool and curious’ you need to use non- biological sex based pronouns. And this is about a ‘certain generation.’ I mean I’m 32 and think it’s bollocks.

plus, as a bonus, ‘if you don’t like me, fine, as long as you use my correct pronouns.’

ffs

It really is telling of the gender critical movement that they just can't comprehend how self determination works.

Oh we do. A man can claim he’s a woman all he likes. That’s self determination. What he can’t do is compel others to go along with his claim…

There's this thing called 'google'.

How Religious Belief and Identity Connect

  • Group Membership: According to the Wikipedia page on Religious Identity, religious identity refers specifically to a person's sense of belonging to a religious group and how important that group is to their self-concept. 1]
  • Worldview and Values: Faith provides a sacred framework, shaping daily decisions, moral values, and personal purpose. For example, the National Church Life Survey found that 95% of surveyed Australian churchgoers view their faith in God as an important part of who they are. 1, 2, 3]
  • Community and Culture: Religion involves shared rituals, histories, and social networks. This creates a collective bond similar to ethnic or cultural identity. 1, 2, 3]

I’m sorry you’ve had to resort to Wikipedia as a source.

We are talking about the Equality Act 2010. It protects Religious Belief. It says nothing about ‘identity’ and ‘identity’ is not the protected characteristic.

Did you not read this paragraph?

So a woman is an adult female human with any personality, and regardless of whether she conforms to stereotypes, and a man is an adult male human with any personality, and regardless of whether he conforms to stereotypes.

That's self determination. The fact that the stereotypes exist doesn't, in a free society, stop anyone from having their own personality and living their life as they wish.

‘Self determination’ usually refers to your ability to make choices about your own life, e.g. being able to vote.

It does not confer a power to change how others see you or to become something that you are not.

It does not confer a power to change how others see you or to become something that you are not.

Noone said it did. That's purely hyper paranoia at work.

or to become something that you are not.

its gender not sex for the zillionth time.

You can of course use words in many different ways, but in situations where accuracy is important (law, medicine), woman means ‘adult human female’.

It’s you that is suggesting that we should categorise oeople according to societal expectations. I’m just trying to understand your system. I acknowledge that I have no idea how it is supposed to work.

My dude. Its not 'my' system. I don't have the power to bring societal categorisations into being. Its OUR system.

You're gender critical for chrissakes. Surely you understand how sex stereotypes are social constructs.

How does a man "live as female"?

It's all very well plonking down dictionary definitions, but how does this actually work?

I know how it used to work decades ago when they had the "real life test" for transsexuals before they could be considered for surgery. Back then, men were expected to "dress as women" and use women's toilets.

But what is expected of a man if he wants to "live as female" in 2026? Is it still just about frocks and loos?

Nope. The context was religious identity & whether it was a valid concept. Nothing to do with the EA. That's just a diversion to avoid admitting you were wrong.

Clue: Gender.

They live according to the gendered norms/roles/behviour/ associated to the opposite sex.

I’m afraid it is very much your system as I can’t see any evidence of it existing in the real world.

To take the example in the OP, nobody is confused about Chloe’s sex, regardless of pronouns used.

Surely you understand how sex stereotypes are social constructs.

Yes, we do. And we also understand that they're restrictive and limiting, which is why we see them as a problem not a solution.

You, on the other hand, seem to want to make them more important than sex and categorise everyone according to stereotypical behaviour.

sweetnsourr · Today 07:23

StealthTroublemaker · Today 07:19

I said both nature & nurture. Perhaps if you can't go without misrepresenting other people's comments in order to validate your arguments this isn't the place for you.

So the ones who don’t do that aren’t really trans?

Or if it’s all down to personal choice why are gendered norms relevant?

They live according to the gendered norms/roles/behviour/ associated to the opposite sex.

Why? What's the point?

I mean, most of us just live our lives and don't consciously think about whether or not we are conforming to gender stereotypes.

Why would anyone waste time on actually thinking about this, let alone acting it out and giving themselves a set of gendered rules to live by? It just seems insane to me.

Depends why they don't. Fear or social rejection might be reasons.

Or if it’s all down to personal choice why are gendered norms relevant?

Because that's how society categorises typical behaviours. Trans people didn't make up gendered categories society did.

Nah bud. You said
The foundational 'check list' so to speak is rooted in typical sexed behaviours

So if these behaviours are socially constructed, then are you saying it is society that determines if one is a man or a woman depending on behaviour? In that case, self determination cannot exist can it? If one can only determine whether one is a man on a woman based on arbitrary standards decreed by “society”, then one is not using self determination, but the determination laid down by society….

The legitimate aim provides the legal justification that can be used by an employer or service provider to defend an action that causes a disadvantage.

If there were no disadvantage to start with we wouldn't be having this conversation.

When the law says legitimate aim, that’s what it means. There are many legitimate aims that are not the same as ‘disadvantages’, that’s why they don’t use the word ‘disadvantage’.

A women’s menopause group has the legitimate aim of providing support to women in menopause. It can legally exclude men as men never experience menopause. Wanting to discuss menopause away from men is not to do with ‘disadvantage’.

I think you would save yourself a lot of time if you recognised that people and laws use specific words and phrases because they want to impart specific information and achieve specific things. When you start to claim they mean or say something they are not in order to try and back one of your points, it just exposes the gaping chasms and contradictions in your position.

I’m still bemused at the fact that you label asking for an example that illustrates your point as ‘trolling’. That is a very ‘unusual’ approach to arguing and ultimately here will be unsuccessful as you can see.

Noooo. Of course “gender stereotypes “ exist. It’s what feminists have been fighting against for centuries

Patriarchy : women must do the washing up
Feminists: anyone can do the washing up
Gender Idiots: whoever does the washing up must be a woman

is that simple enough for you…..

Society doesn't categorise people according to gendered behaviours. Society categorises people according to sex. Which is real.

Only genderists think gendered behaviours are more important than sex.
