TT summary:

Dr Redvers, a named GP safeguarding lead, has a constructive dismissal case. Clinical concerns were raised about a specific doctor at WellBN, a Brighton GP practice. She claims that as a result of escalating those claims from 2020 onwards, she was constructively dismissed.

Her legal claim is discrimination on the grounds of her employer’s perception she had gender critical beliefs and on the grounds of her protected belief in evidence-based medicine (EBM). The respondent defends the latter claim by pleading that EBM is just an opinion.

Not read the either however I am hopeful that the headlines grab the naysayers and virtue signaller - I have friends and family in this group - who repeatedly told me to be kind to trans people and that as it didn’t affect children why was I so bothered.

When I said children are being experimented on one friend told me I was mentally deranged. Wonder if I will hear from her soon? She lives and dies by the BBC and the DM. She is also a teacher.

Realisation will dawn at some point. Its a bit of a sickening one.

We should be offering golden bridges but I find the cold rage at the harm done makes that quite difficult.

Sorry, I can't offer access. However, good for Dr Redvers that she is going out and talking to the press. A woman who takes her safeguarding role seriously. She needs to be promoted to a post where she can force others to fall into line.

It does, thank you!

I tried but I haven't been able to archive anything for ages. I have no idea why.

It’s really flaky for me too! I copied the link, emailed it to myself and then copied and pasted it. Same on laptop, iPad and phone 🤷

Thank you for this. Exactly what you would expect from a journalist with the integrity, knowledge and journalistic skills that Hannah Barnes has demonstrated throughout her exemplary work on this.

There are now calls for an independent inquiry. “There urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, and indeed young adults has failed,” Baroness Hilary Cass told The Sunday Times. “Clearly it goes beyond NHS Sussex to other regulatory bodies.”
Cass, whose landmark review into children’s gender services changed the way the NHS provided care, has urged the government to establish a body with the independent power to compel witnesses and disclosure “so that this sort of situation can’t arise again”.
The department of health and social care said: “The care provided by this GP practice was wholly unacceptable.” It is understood the government is now considering what further steps to take.
For Cass, the scandal that has unfolded in Brighton “dwarfs” that of the Tavistock’s Gids. She called on the GMC to immediately suspend Hall. “I really would want to ask why he still has a licence to practise.”

This feels......big.

What a read. You can't hate these people enough. When is the weight of evidence going to break through to begin systemic change in the NHS, schools etc?

It's as big as the elephant in the room, yet the NHS can't see it, systemically unable to break from a self-imposed mantra, and would rather destroy the reputation and career of a doctor who has only done good for the cohort of ultra vulnerable patients she has chosen to concentrate her career on, than return to evidence based "first do no harm" medicine.

CriticalCondition · 25/10/2026 01:09

Hannah Barnes was logged in and watching the tribunal. It shows. That is an excellent article. We've been here before but it does feel like something has shifted. To see all the cowards and ideologues called to account at a public inquiry - oh yes, bring it on.

Edit for spelling

I'm not sure, really. The article does make clear that Hall is a biological woman who has had surgery to appear male (and we can infer hormones also). It might have detracted from the article to insist on correct-sex pronouns.

After all, whatever a return to normality involves, it is certain that there will be some transitioned people and that they should be treated with respect. Provided that there is no deceit involved, that sex can be indicated wherever necessary, and that no-one is forced to censor or silence themselves (unless they are speaking in a way that is genuinely hateful), I'd be happy to see flexibility about pronouns.

If the article had insisted on sex-based pronouns it would have seemed hostile to the whole concept of transgender, which would have undermined its factual representation of a failure to assess each gender-distressed child and young person in an evidence-respecting, non-ideological way

Well, quite. It's absolutely relevant that DSH is a woman with a 'trans identity' and yet, you'd probably miss this on reading the article.

'Talking to Redvers, I cannot help thinking that I have heard this before. Clinicians at the Tavistock’s Gids shared the exact same observations with me from 2019 onwards: weak leadership combined with ideological capture, perceived prestige for the organisation, and fear had all led to children being harmed.'

The irony.

Thank you for expressing my feelings about this far better than I could.

Helleofabore · 25/10/2026 09:39

The use of wrong sex pronouns in the article requires people to both read the full article to understand that (and any quoting away from that full explanation will lose the context) and require a reader to have full understanding of all the terminology referenced.

Using pronouns that are the opposite sex to that person’s sex category builds in inaccuracy no matter how respectful someone is attempting to be.

There really is no way around this. The discussion has cover nearly every conceivable angle and that point remains. That inaccuracy may mean little to you, general you, but when you then look at how that can then build it is remarkable to see the impact. You, general you, using he for someone like Buckangel sets the expectation that Buck is male for anyone who hears that said, or reads it. Even in brief conversation.

Decisions get made based on that information, and those decisions may have been very different knowing buck is female.

I've found the same, and I used to archive a lot of things as well as read them. I think sites have recently found some way to avoid their articles being archived. I keep thinking there must be some clever workaround, and there probably is, but I haven’t found it.

If anyone can recommend a reliable alternative to the previously-trusty archive site, do share!

I agree with most of your points, but not flexibility about pronouns.

I think most of us have had a long time to think about the pronouns issue. The deciding factor for me was the confusion about sex that it might instill in small children, and the safeguarding issues that can follow. It really dwarfs any claim by an adult that they might 'feel more comfortable' if I refer to them by wrong-sex pronouns. The most I will ever give is a they/them or use of their chosen name.

heathspeedwell · 25/10/2026 10:34

I can't get over the scale of all the under-25s affected by this. 1,100 people in the year from 24-25 alone.

And Hall hadn't even bothered to meet many of them, she just handed out prescriptions like sweeties. (Even though we're always told this never happens).

I really hope there's an inquiry and I hope Hall, Doyle and the other people who facilitated this scandal lose their jobs and their pensions.

ThreeNewWords · 25/10/2026 14:05

@Helleofabore and @HenriettaSwanLeavitt2 Yeah, you may both be right. I'm a bit undecided. If the situation hadn't become so distorted by authoritarianism, entitlement and narcissism there would be space for each of us to reach our own accommodation on the issue, without being monstered. That's the key failing, the complete replacement of normal plurality with a conjured-up orthodoxy that no-one can remember signing up to. If that went away, a solution might emerge.

I wish a solution would be found. But at this stage, having seen every argument from those considered moderate to extreme, I cannot see that there is an accommodation for using inaccurate language.
