I think the Variety article is quite balanced

https://variety.com/2026/legit/global/jk-rowling-trans-protest-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child-1236914728/

although perhaps the bar has been set so low by partisan sniping i just can't see it any more.

Obviously the Beeb seems to think this wasn't worth reporting. Speaking of which....

If anyone's interested there a man giving a talk about his transition on the 28th at the Hive in Shrewsbury.

I suspect it'll be genuinely interesting. If any GC women go along it'll be to sit politely and see his talk, not to behave like idiots inside or outside the venue.

In a statement sent to Variety by the Guild of Angry Transsexuals, a group that claimed to have organized the protest, one of the protestors, Thea, said, “We took action to make attendees of Rowling’s ‘Cursed Child’ [aware] that by continuing to fund her media and entertainment empire, they directly fund the legal attack on trans people, their rights and private lives.”

Well, they are aptly named. Although, I hadn’t realised that calling themselves transsexuals was a thing again? Does that mean we’ll get splintered groups like the Society of Furious Transvestites?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/10/2026 16:52

Angry Transexuals Guild
Guild Against Being Called Transexuals
We're Trans Not Transexuals

The splitting possibilities are endless, People's Front of Judea style.

I misread your post as referring to 'parsnip sniping' and thought this is very serious if we're stealing root vegetables now. But then I realised my mistake.

Parsnips aside, I agree it seems quite balanced.

I did chuckle at the idea of a Guild of Angry Transsexuals, visions of people dressed like Frank-n-Furter sitting round a kitchen table making cutting remarks followed by a flounce, though I am sure I have misrepresented the Guild and someone will be along soon to correct me, maybe with a whip...

Chersfrozenface · 19/10/2026 17:18

The "Guild of Angry Transsexuals". All two of them, apparently.

They have an Instagram account with <checks notes> 684 followers, though.

WerewolfOfLoudon · 19/10/2026 17:19

Frank would turn in his grave @Pudmyboy
He was a "Sweet Transvestite" never an angry transexual.

I'd imagine the Guild to be dressed more like the now destroyed Aberdeen Polycule. Angry, angry men.

Guild against Made Up Wizards?
Guild against being called a guild?

Or, for the less aggressive of them -
The Guild of Men in Frocks who really are quite miffed.

Women Hating Angry Trans

lcakethereforeIam · 19/10/2026 17:43

I thought it was probably a backronym, to spell GOAT🐐. The 'transexual' thing didn't even register.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by how balanced the article was with plenty of space for the sensible comments from JKR's agent and enough from the protesters to show what idiots they are.

OneJustPinkAnt · 19/10/2026 19:08

If they really believe their views are correct why do they need to cover their faces? If they got identified wouldn't everyone pat them on the back and say well done?

Just shows it's nothing more than a load of women hating angry men looking for an excuse to kick off whilst knowing they are idiots.

Quite. Frankfurter would seem like very good fun to go to an event with, as opposed to the kind of bore who gets in the way yelling vaguely about JK evilly funding women's access to retaining their rights.

leperol · 19/10/2026 20:34

I think most people are SO over all this now. Moving swiftly on to student riots and Palestinian flags is next!

onlytherain · 19/10/2026 20:37

I don't find this article balanced. It summarises the problem as: "Rowling has been vocal in her criticism of self-declared gender identity". That is not correct.

She has been vocal in her criticism of the impact of self-declared gender identity on women's rights and spaces. That is something completely different. She fights for women's rights not against people declaring a gender identity.

SirChenjins · 19/10/2026 20:43

The Whingeing Agitating Transsexuals' Society - a far more fitting name for the lads.

I also had a bit of a chuckle at The Guild of Angry Transexuals.
How angry do you have to be to join I wonder? What if you are just a bit peeved? Do you qualify? Do you have to be angry all the time or is just most of the time ok? What if you were having a really good time somewhere and someone posted a photo of you laughing and carrying on on social media, do you think you would be hauled in to face the Board about improper representation of the Guild?
So many questions...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/10/2026 21:55

Aren’t the EHRC piss protest blokeys “the society for pissed off tr*nnies” or something?

I understand the GoAT was specifically formed to "target the financial and media ecosystem of author J.K. Rowling"
Very niche. I expect you have to be terribly angry to join. Being slightly peeved is really not up to scratch. Also, the acronym doesn't flow:
"GoSPT" - unless, like the sketch about "knickers off ready when I come home" missing off the K to make it into NORWICH, a couple of extra letters could be used to make GoSPorT?
"Oh no! Here comes GOSPORT. Mandy lifeboats!" or something
