I think the Variety article is quite balanced

https://variety.com/2026/legit/global/jk-rowling-trans-protest-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child-1236914728/

although perhaps the bar has been set so low by partisan sniping i just can't see it any more.

Obviously the Beeb seems to think this wasn't worth reporting. Speaking of which....

If anyone's interested there a man giving a talk about his transition on the 28th at the Hive in Shrewsbury.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwn8d1r8dr7ro

I suspect it'll be genuinely interesting. If any GC women go along it'll be to sit politely and see his talk, not to behave like idiots inside or outside the venue.

I've been wondering how you join or form a Guild. Even googled it. Just got a lot of links about D&D.

I think you just make up a name and create an Insta account or similar for publicity purposes.

And undoubtedly use other communication methods between guild members.

I'm contemplating starting one of my own. Probably the Guild of Incompetent Knitters.

Guild of struggling to learn how to crochet 👋

Good to see Monty Python is alive and well.

My ex MIL was a member of the local Women's Guild, twice weekly meetings and an abundance of printed media. You were shortchanged by your Guild @MoistVonL

D&D is infinitely more fun though.

Maybe the GoAT are just angry because shocked Pikachu face their surgeries were botched and of course that is JKR's fault.

Fighting for Women's rights and safe spaces is not trans hatred TPA but you know that. Your female child will need female health care at some point in their life, even if you trans identified them at 4 and fail to see the influence of two older brothers.

Guild of struggling to learn how to crochet 👋

Guild of Struggling Tyro Crocheters. Could share a guildhall with us Incompetent Knitters.

Also with the Guild of Cack-handed Actual Seamstresses Not "Seamstresses".

Steady on, Seamstresses is a step to far. "Needlework is work," anyone?

The Guild of Sugarcraft was a letdown for me.

The Hawkesbury Ladies Guild, of which my grandmother was a member for 57 years, was an organisation in which Granny Weatherwax would have fitted.

I'm happy to join the Guild of Ineptitude with my crochet, knitting, needle felting, macramé and piss poor sewing skills.

Do we get a crest? Usually Myrtle or Boily are up for designing insignia.

I could definitely qualify for Guild of Cackhanded Seamstresses. We had dressmaking classes at my school in the 60s and I imagine that after an hour a week of trying to teach me anything, the teacher went home and took strong drink.

Does anyone remember the Catholic school headteacher who banned "evil" Harry Potter books, long before the trans issue? On the grounds that the occult is very real, very dangerous, and children should not be reading about it?

I’d take bets on no treatment at all having been taken, botched or otherwise.

I can’t knit or crochet, so would be keen to join any inclusive guild that will have me.

Doesn't one of the toy shop chains, the Entertainer possibly, refuse to stock HP merchandise for the same reason?

A little light Googling tells me that the Entertainer did used to refuse to sell toys tied to Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Wicked, Pokémon and KPop Demon Hunters, amongst others.

However, since ownership was transferred to an employee trust, last year I believe,, it now sells those lines, saying that the business is “evolving its range to meet customer demand”, which I parse as "needing to make money".

Me too. Teacher spent most of the class unpicking my work. Disheartening!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/10/2026 12:14

Anyway, between the Guild of Angry Transsexuals and covering their faces, you've got to question their sanity.
I mean, when do TERFs cover their faces?
Is there a Guild of Angry Terfs that I can join? Heaven knows, we have planty to be angry about.

Guild against Made Up Wizards?
Guild against being called a guild?

Or, for the less aggressive of them -
The Guild of Men in Frocks who really are quite miffed.

There was a lot of this about wrong religion in the US schools, possibly at state level. The fact that the characters celebrated Christmas and Easter passed them by.

Sorry, I realise that trans people making shows of themselves doesn't give enough context for people to identify the specific event,

GreyskySexRealistsky · 20/10/2026 15:15

Meanwhile, when not making a show of themselves protesting HP, a couple of "trans kids" make a show of themselves glueing a couple of posters onto Bridget Phillipson's office
