I think the Variety article is quite balanced

https://variety.com/2026/legit/global/jk-rowling-trans-protest-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child-1236914728/

although perhaps the bar has been set so low by partisan sniping i just can't see it any more.

Obviously the Beeb seems to think this wasn't worth reporting. Speaking of which....

If anyone's interested there a man giving a talk about his transition on the 28th at the Hive in Shrewsbury.

I suspect it'll be genuinely interesting. If any GC women go along it'll be to sit politely and see his talk, not to behave like idiots inside or outside the venue.

Since when did transgender turn into trans-sexual? Have we stepped back in time?

if we have wasted the past 15 years with them kicking off saying that they are special and it's all about gender then I shall be very, very pissed with Thea.

Meowyme · 19/10/2026 23:43

Madness.

Frank would turn in his grave @Pudmyboy
He was a "Sweet Transvestite" never an angry transexual.

I'd imagine the Guild to be dressed more like the now destroyed Aberdeen Polycule. Angry, angry men.

He was a sweet transvestite from transsexual transylvania though

TransParentlyAnnoyed · 20/10/2026 00:03

They're protesting because of the anti-trans violence which results from online hatred. Which Rowling is very much part of.

Discussing trans people as if they're subhuman has very real, devastating effects. GC women do that constantly. It's the movement's main appeal.

The suffragettes didn't protest politely, neither do they.

BiologicalRobot · 20/10/2026 00:05

Please point out where Rowling has done this online hatred of trans people. There's a million quid at stake if you can.

Koriko · 20/10/2026 00:12

I already have fun giving JKR my money to enjoy her properties, don't have to remind me it goes to good causes too!

hatosh · 20/10/2026 01:10

I enjoyed Variety's subtle snark calling the attendees "local celebrities". (I admit I hadn't heard of them)

Honestly @TransParentlyAnnoyed, what anti-trans violence? Please point to a news article from this month, which demonstrates genuinely anti-trans violence, you can pick anywhere in the world, but it has to be recent.
Because if I put that challenge out to point to a news article demonstrating anti-female violence with the same criteria, this thread would soon fill up.
I believe because "misgendering" is apparently violence, some stat's might be... inflated shall we say. But if you then tried to balance that by using the online death and rape threats that women routinely recieve, once again we will see the stark difference.
And I'm sorry if I misunderstood this, but did you honestly just compare the TRAs to the Suffragettes?
You can't have them. They were protesting on behalf of women. I don't like to posthumorously assign gender-identity politics (like we've seen elsewhere) but I'm pretty sure they would be on the GC side of things.

The Suffragettes were protesting to gain political representation the TRAs are protesting because they want to shit on women's automony. Quite the difference.

MoistVonL · 20/10/2026 01:55

I am another one waiting for this evidence of "trans genocide" at the hands of TERFS.

"No, you can't join the women's rugby team because you're male" isn't exactly comparable to violence in any sane person's head.

Manyanamanyana · 20/10/2026 02:15

Haven't heard back from @TransParentlyAnnoyed though, must be diligently collecting that dossier of evidence...

PriOn1 · 20/10/2026 07:51

Having seen a brief clip of the ruckus, the voices chanting the usual mantras were (despite, I assume, their best efforts) undeniably female.

Sadly for them, young women don’t have voices that are effective in intimidation, which is what they were presumably aiming for. They’ll learn soon enough which sex has all the advantages when intimidation is the aim.

Transsexuals though? Interesting. I rather suspect not. Indeed, I suspect, in a few years time, they may be following rather naice careers in, for example, publishing, having forgotten all about their short-lived efforts at pretending serious oppression.

To quote a poster on the libraries thread - talking bollocks again, I see.

And you're comparing trans people with suffragettes? really?

testmatchspecial · 20/10/2026 08:06

They reminded me of the women who did the insects at the LGA conference.

I can imagine there might be some crossover.

Chersfrozenface · 20/10/2026 09:27

I wonder whether "transsexuals" is deliberate, a claim that they have actually changed sex.

Unless it's a claim to protection under the Equality Act protected characteristic of gender reassignment, since in that Act "a reference to a transsexual person is a reference to a person who has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment". That would take detailed and accurate knowledge of the Act, of course.

SirChenjins · 20/10/2026 10:41

I wondered how long it would be before TPA arrived with his usual nonsense. Mate, the TRAs are the most violent lot here as well you know. They have far more rights that the suffragettes had - don't make a tit of yourself by comparing these men to them.

SidewaysOtter · 20/10/2026 10:41

I see TPA has flopped in as usual to try his/her/thems best to divert discussion.

Anyway, does one have to be angry to join this guild? What if one is only mildly peeved?

lcakethereforeIam · 20/10/2026 10:44

I've been wondering how you join or form a Guild. Even googled it. Just got a lot of links about D&D.

OP posts:
MoistVonL · 20/10/2026 10:47

I was in a Guild once. I'd passed the qualifications for that particular craft and became a member of a Guild.

Turns out it's just a naff magazine twice a year and not much else.

So disappointed.

SirChenjins · 20/10/2026 10:50

No, mildly peeved is not enough I'm afraid. Testosterone fuelled rage directed at women who say no is the single pre requisite to becoming a member of this particular guild.
