๐Ÿ™„ sorry about DM link - itโ€™s the only one not behind a paywall. Men on the Facebook group are saying that women should join female only gyms.

David Lloyd sparks equality row by excluding men from spa areas

The exclusive gym group has introduced weekly women-only spa sessions in several of its branches due toย what it described as 'significant feedback' from female members.

I'm not debating the law and never have.

Oh. It is a comprehension thing.

I live on the coast so don't need to go on holiday to go to a beach.

Tesco/library - jeans, shirt multiple people and staff around - no worry at all.
Beach - bathers, people around - no worry at all. Do it every day.
Beach - bathers, nobody around except a group of men - a level of awareness that I am alone and vulnerable.
Sauna - door closed,no staff in evidence, bathing suit, just me and two men in trunks - a level of awareness that I am alone and vulnerable.

I've never known a women who wouldn't understand the above.

You're either being deliberately obtuse or are a man.

Ok, most people don't live on the coast but...whatever. My list of times I feel vulnerable is as follows:

Anywhere outdoors and dark at night.
Anywhere I'm alone, away from houses, in the daytime, e.g. in the woods.
Alone in a car with someone I don't know.
And probably other scenarios I could think of.

So what we seem to have in common is a fear when being alone.

The sauna/steam room/spa area at David Lloyd is always buzzing with people. I cannot remember a single time that I've been alone there. It's a really sociable environment. I've made friends there, even though that's not my reason for going.

So no, I don't understand some of the hysteria on this thread about the spa at David Lloyd.

Talkinpeace · 19/10/2026 21:37

I've not RTFT
but there is a distinct misconception by many posters.

Lots of David Lloyd clubs DO NOT HAVE SPAs

the poolside mixed sex Sauna, Steam room, Hot tubs and pools
are not a spa.
They are all hours all access facilities

The clubs that have had a spa added are different
it is separated from the main club
and can be easily made single sex for a few hours

You say your identity doesnโ€™t matter, but you are the one who explicitly brought up being a grandmother in past threads to give yourself real-world authority on male behavior. You can't use your personal life as a shield when it suits you, and then claim 'itโ€™s none of your business' the second your logic gets challenged.

If you are willing to admit you 'may or may not' even be a grandmother or a David Lloyd member, you're essentially admitting your arguments are just abstract contrarianism. People aren't debating 'concepts' in a vacuum hereโ€”women are discussing their actual, physical safety and comfort in real-world spaces.

Well, since disagreeing with someone automatically leads to claims that I must be a man, it doesn't matter one iota what I've said about who I am. I'm not a part of your perceived clique because my views don't correspond with accepted views in that clique. Therefore it cannot be possible that I am a woman. Let me just check the rules of debating again, lol! The whole thread is full of logical fallacies. It's bulging with them.

So you know for certain that all several thousand women who ever post here are real women in 'real-world spaces', do you? Do you realise what a ridiculous statement that is?

Maybe. I have absolutely no idea if that video is AI or not. What was your point in posting it?

Erm, I didn't bring the Taliban into this. You did. Please re-read your post at 20:42, in which you said:

"Absolutely, I'm covert Taliban, me. I'm all for burkas in saunas - make you sweat more, innit?"

She was directly replying to you when you said, "Or do you think we should segregate men and women in all public places, Afghanistan style?"

What is "Afghanistan style" meant to reference, if it's not the Taliban's rules, then? Enlighten me, because I misunderstood too.

Frankly, it's a good thing Catiette mentioned the Taliban, isn't it, as otherwise we might never have known that wasn't what you meant!

Women are segregated from men in Afghanistan. I think Iran is pretty strict too,

Did you trail off at the end there because you realized your own argument was collapsing?

No one thinks every account online is verified, but you're the one who keeps using your personal lifeโ€”being a grandmother, your couples membershipโ€”to back up your points, then throwing a tantrum about privacy when people hold you to your own words. You can't use your identity as a shield when it suits your argument, and then mock others for bringing it up when it doesn't.

If you aren't actually a woman, you aren't posting here in good faith, plain and simple. Coming into a women's space to aggressively defend men's rights under a false identity completely derails the point of the forum.

For someone who loves to lecture the rest of the board on logic, your absolute refusal to take accountability for your own posting history is hilarious. Have another look at those debating rules.....

Nice passive tense there. Turn it into an active tense, and tell us who it is who is segregating women from men. Could it be... the Taliban?

There are all manner of single-sex services and spaces in the U.K. DL offers one of them for two hours a week. No need to reference Afghanistan.

There have been quite a few discussions about single-sex spaces here. Maybe you missed them.

The video is not AI. The man was arrested and went to court.

I posted in in response to your question "Any examples of what catastrophes may await you in the spa would be good".

I don't know what you mean about trailing off.

Discrimination should be a universal concern, whether it affects one's own gender/religion/colour/creed etc. or not. I don't regard my belief that sex discrimination concerns should apply equally to both sexes is a 'man's argument'. It is a human being's argument. I don't believe society should pit men and women against each other.

You appear to be arguing that if I'm Jewish, I can't defend Palestinian's rights. Or if I'm not disabled, I can't defend disabled people's rights. And if I'm a woman, I can't defend men's rights. I don't agree with you. If you think that's me throwing a tantrum, that's fine. I'm comfortable with that. It doesn't matter who I am, it's what I say that matters.

Hysteria is a telling choice of words.
The sort of word men use to trivialise women's valid concerns.

Do you just not understand the meaning or purpose of lawful discrimination?

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 19/10/2026 22:08

Please do not go anywhere near disabled people's rights. They have enough to deal with.

CarbonelKitten · 19/10/2026 22:09

Nice try with the username distraction, but nobody here is confused about how usernames work. The issue is that you use your supposed real-world identity when it suits your argument, then claim it doesn't matter the second you're challenged.

Equating a women-only spa slot to global human rights struggles is a massive reach. This isn't about 'pitting sexes against each other,' it's about basic privacy and safeguarding. Single-sex provisions exist for a reason. Treating a temporary privacy boundary for women as 'discrimination' against men doesn't make you a universal humanistโ€”it just means you're completely ignoring real-world safety for the sake of winning an internet argument.

Do you have a monopoly on expecting that disabled people should have equal rights to able-bodied people? I don't think so. I'll defend whomsoever I choose to defend. But thank you anyway.

But surely you believe that disabled parking spaces are discrimination, because they take up space but not everyone can use them. Thatโ€™s your logic.
