๐Ÿ™„ sorry about DM link - itโ€™s the only one not behind a paywall. Men on the Facebook group are saying that women should join female only gyms.

David Lloyd sparks equality row by excluding men from spa areas

The exclusive gym group has introduced weekly women-only spa sessions in several of its branches due toย what it described as 'significant feedback' from female members.

The majority wanting something does not necessarily make the thing that they want, acceptable. The majority wanted white rule in South Africa, for years.

I don't have a problem with women having separate facilities, provided that is not at the expense of men. We both pay exactly the same for the spa. The joint facilities must remain that way.

Fucking hell!

The majority didn't want white rule in South Africa.

93% of South Africans are black.

A crime doesn't have to have been committed for women to be made to feel fearful or uncomfortable. All women and most decent men would completely understand that.

Any statistics would likely to be reliable anyway as over 80% of sexual assaults and rapes in England and Wales are not reported.

The point I was making was, do you really believe that sexual assaults are taking place in DL clubs? Have you ever been to a DL club? I'm not sure how easy it would be to go unnoticed. But assuming there have been sexual assaults in their clubs, and that on the whole, these would have been made by men against women, what is the relevance to this discussion? An assault can take place anywhere. Why are you arguing that it's more likely to happen in a spa?

The majority of those in power. No need for gratuitous swearing.

What did David Lloyd say when you asked them that question?

I'm not arguing that it's more likely to happen in a spa. You imagined that.

I donโ€™t know about โ€˜stealth boastingโ€™. You might want to ask the person who posted it about that.

Itโ€™s true that posting personal experience is not necessarily relevant but why do my personal experiences count for less than anyone elseโ€™s?

Ok, letโ€™s take out personal experiences and stick to reasoned argument. I prefer that anyway.

Do you think itโ€™s logical to ban an entire demographic for the bad behaviour of a few people within that demographic? If so, where do you draw the line?

It's logical that if some of your customers (women) are being disadvantaged by the behaviour of some of your other customers (men) that you see whether a solution may be to offer some time to themselves to redress the balance. The thing with women's disadvantage is that is often invisible, women just exclude themselves.

And again, not one person is preventing men making the case for men-only sessions if that's what they feel they need.

So what are you arguing, then?

They would wouldn't they.

Same with women's sufferage around the world.

As for swearing I'd remind you that you wrote 'big tits' on this thread at 10.38.

But youโ€™ve paid for a service and you are not being allowed to access it at that time. You are being discriminated against because you have no children.

There's an adults-only pool. The other two pools are designated family pools. The spa is designated adults only. It's made clear when you join, what is adults only.

Yes, they would, and yes to women's suffrage.

Me writing "big tits" wasn't gratuitous. I was making a point, which is that most of the women who think it's fine to complain about "too many hairy men" and the like would (rightly) be offended if a man posted something similar, with the intention of being derogatory, about women.

Also, I don't think "tits" is a swear word, is it?

You're bringing up race again, and yet you've still not responded to my queries about whether black people are allowed to have black only swimming sessions.

To quote Nathaniel Cole, co-founder of Swim Dem Crew, a swimming group encouraging more people of colour to get into the water, "No one wants to be theโ€ฆ only black person in the pool." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx27vxkpdz1o
.

From the same article, Swim England's figures suggest that 67% of black women and 44% of black men in England cannot swim 25 metres unaided - far higher than the national average, and far higher than the numbers for white people (17% of white women and 12% of white men cannot swim 25 metres).

This costs children's lives: between 2019 and 2025, black children were 3.5 times more likely to drown than white children. And yet we have people like the AfD party in Germany shutting down targeted sessions for black children.

Would you be one of them?

A bright red lifebuoy floats on still water beneath a black-and-white image of a person standing on the edge of a swimming pool

Why so many black Britons still don't swim

For decades, swimming ability has been lower in the black community. Our writer asks why.

"I'm a grandmother and I've never in my life met a single man who is not turned on by naked ladies unless he's gay or otherwise just not interested in women. Maybe you need to accept that? "

That's you from a previous thread.

Can you really not see why women might not want to share a sauna with men?

Argumentum ad hominem.

Let's recap.

You posted the following, Do you think itโ€™s ok to be racist as long as itโ€™s only on one day for two hours a week? and repeated the point.

I explained that the analogy of women's only hours is sessions specifically for people from ethnic minorities who aren't served by general sessions, and I asked if it was racist to have black only swimming sessions. You ignored this.

And then, you voluntarily brought up apartheid in South Africa while claiming that the majority wanted it. The majority of black people wanted apartheid, eh? If you don't like people noticing your pattern of behaviour, change it. You can start by not invoking race in the first place.

This is nonsense obviously โ€“ as others have pointed out, the actual majority did not want white rule in South Africa.

Leaving that aside, given your views on what the majority support, I'm vaguely curious about whether you feel the results of UK elections should be respected but don't want to be sucked into reading more inane responses so am going to do my best to step away for now.

I have already clarified that I was talking about the majority of those in power. I made the mistake of thinking that was obvious in my original post.

Yes, I think the outcome of UK elections should be respected. Is there a relevance to what weโ€™re discussing?

No.
if you have a problem with men being excited by naked ladies, how do you propose that the human race should survive?

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 19/10/2026 16:52

'The decision to introduce a weekly, two-hour female-only spa session was made after listening to feedback from many of our members across our clubs, who expressed a need for a short period of relaxation in a space exclusively for them.
'The spa retreat remains fully accessible outside of these clearly signposted times.
'We will continue to listen carefully to feedback from all members and would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their views.'

Sounds like members asked for this.

I wonder if men have asked for a men only time?

Given David Lloyd set this up for women on request there's no reason to think they won't do the same for men is there?

By providing those women with single sex spaces. Obvs.

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 19/10/2026 16:59

Is the human race in danger of extinction if women have two hours in the sauna without men? Is that the only time and place that humans reproduce now? Gosh.

This is mums-net; I think we can take it as read I've done my bit for perpetuating the species, thanks!

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 19/10/2026 17:04

I didn't realise the DL saunas were supposed to be sex saunas for heterosexual swinging, soz.

We're not talking about the survival of the human race.
We're talking about sharing a sauna.

These are sex people, Lynn! Maybe 6pm-8pm is prime swinging time?

Dunno about you, but I'll never look at David Lloyd premises the same way again.
