Petition urges LondonMayor to scrap Harry Potter Christmas lights over transphobia

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to cancel Harry Potter-themed Christmas lights planned for Oxford Street this year.

The display is intended to promote the forthcoming Harry Potter TV series, but campaigners object to the promotion of JK Rowling's work due to what they argue are here anti-trans views.

Signatories to the petition, which was organised by the Good Law Project, also say the lights will leave trans people feeling unwelcome and unsafe in one of London's best-known festive locations.

I just went to look for the petition as I am a very skeptical person, as of 5 minutes ago there were less than 6000 signatures. Its not one of those change petitions, its on the GLP website.
I assume Sadiq Khan can deal with this. There is no way of knowing where the signatures come from so not necessarily Londoners.
I think Sadiq Khan has been doing well recently, I really enjoyed him trolling "Zack" by replying to him in Urdu not that long ago.

And now I need to go to Twitter/X to see the deranged response this must have had. Damn you!

I hope the police charged the person/people involved in such a level of physical violence against a school child that they nearly died. Was your child recovering in hospital for a very long time? I hope they weren’t in the critical stage for long, as it must have been traumatising if they were holding on to life by a thread, and you not knowing if they were going to live or die from one moment to the next. People use words like ‘killed’ and ‘nearly died’ so flippantly and disingenuously, don’t they? However, your child’s situation was obviously a very real life and death scenario.

I’d imagine such an incident would be in the paper. Which papers reported on this? And were the violent attackers prosecuted, and put in prison? I bet that was reported in the newspapers, too. Maybe others would like to know the school, as obviously pupils may get killed, or nearly killed if they attend.

You are right to be sceptical because something like this sounds like it cannot possibly be true. No one can be this unable to cope with life? I thought at first it might be a wind-up. Wrong!

The events described by TPA didn’t occur because the child doesn’t exist.

Suspect the tourists, kids, the massive majority of the population just not into this nonsense, all their money, and the sponsors will outweigh the moaning about perceived slights.

It was really funny. ZP did a campaign video in Urdu, reading off an autocue and not understanding what he was saying. (Especially hilarious because there are very few Urdu speakers in the Holborn constituency and those people nearly all speak English anyway.)

During mayor's question time, ZP asked a question and SK answered with a bit of Urdu.

This is just another GLP data harvesting exercise, more names and email for them to spam for donations. They have more content creators and digital chuggers than legal staff. Bringing legal challenges is expensive, boring and time-consuming but sending begging emails to people who have already identified themselves as gullible marks is quicker & cheaper.
This is why they ask people on Instagram to reply to their posts to receive a link to whatever shite petition they're peddling. And because it's semi automated even replies telling them to fuck off get a little heart emoji & a DM with a link. 🤡

I only saw the clip the other day. It was so funny. Ive lived in London since the 80s and worked mostly in the East End where loads of people speak more than English so it really resonated with me. Showing off that you can speak another language when you cant is such a deeply un London thing to do. Speaking Urdu is so common and yet old "Zack" thought actual Londoners would be impressed. Then Sadiq Khan just demonstrated that, made me laugh.
