Sadly, I’m not at all surprised by this story. It’s strangely worded though.

“You can almost guarantee that every woman that’s in the north of France has probably been raped along the journey.”

Nearly all women arriving on small boats have been raped, says Shabana Mahmood

Home secretary warns people traffickers will exploit asylum seekers because they decide who comes to the UK

I've always assumed they are raped at some point on their journey. The route will be full of criminality. The women who manage to avoid it must be in a tiny minority.

Perhaps you could try reading my posts rather than making assumptions about what I think.

There’s no point in having a discussion with someone who repeatedly misrepresents my arguments.

I have.

You did say:

The few women that make it through should obviously be treated differently and no I am not advocating they are locked up.

But that wouldn’t be fully securing the border, and in the absence of sex dependent treatment of arrivals, women would be put more at risk by your suggestions of how to close the border.

To me all of this lends weight to the importance of creating enough safe and legal routes.

So what is your definition of "enough"?
There are over 110 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, so how do you think UK could deal with that?

Yes milions across the world (although you do realise the UK doesn't take them all!) However the numbers will continue to grow not least because of climate change, so an international approach is needed, a formal plan agreed by world leaders that addresses this would be ideal. Countries that are suitable to take refugees need to have safe and accessible ways for applications to take place and be processed to avoid the long hazardous journeys.

I don’t think voters will just say yes to millions.

shocking… but are we really shocked?

Shocking that people are still using derogatory terms, such as 'third world'.

FlyingApple · 05/10/2026 20:57

Are we really going to pretend to be shocked? We are in mass psychosis.

Which voters?

People who vote? In any country. Where do you see voters saying yes to millions?

Can you give some examples of which electorates would vote for very high numbers

The system as it is directly discriminates against women and puts those who attempt this route at huge risk. It's not a moral position to be in favour of this route - it makes vile criminals rich, it impoverishes the UK, it criminalizes men, it encourages abuse of the asylum system and it puts UK based women and girls at risk.

It also encourages young men to abandon their women relatives to starvation or slavery, torture and abuse, in Afghanistan at least (and probably elsewhere too)

Edited

I find it incredible that so many people do support the current system. It has become a massive industry. There are numerous fat cats making a fortune from this racket and it’s not just criminal gangs either. I expect we don’t know the half of it either. And all of it benefits and prioritises men. No women at all are being helped by the current system. I cannot fathom how any woman or feminist can look at the current situation and not outright condemn it. What’s happening is insane.

Same. I’m glad more women are saying this, usually it’s a mass of accusations against. But it is insanity.

Its not a case of voting or not voting for something that is just a reality though is it? Sometimes Countries have to agred to work together to tackle world events that affect everyone. Do you really think its just a case of the public in every Country saying "no thank you we vote not to take any refugees" and those refugees will simply disappear in a puff of smoke? Seriously???

Well of course have you noticed that people get to vote and political shifts are happening.

Take a look at Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, US, Australia and next up elections in France, Germany and we’ll see on Spain.

Migration issues are at the top, how have you missed policy changes?

Like I said do you seriously believe that any Country can vote refugees into simply not existing anymore? Have you heard about what climate change is going to do in terms of making many areas of the world impossible to live in? Deciding how and where to accommodate these people is not going to be a choice, it will be a necessity. I'm surprised you've missed this.

Look at numbers entering Denmark, Poland and Sweden and see how they can drop due to policy. I’m surprised you’ve missed this.

In Piddington, a small village near Bicester, Oxfordshire, there will be hundreds of small boat men living near two schools. This is the proposed MoD site.

Portakalkedi · 05/10/2026 21:43

Even if this were true, why is it the UK's responsibility to deal with it? Anyone paying people smugglers to gain illegal access to this country is there - or rather here - by choice. If you deal with criminals and scumbags then you should know the risks. No, women should not be raped, not while travelling illegally OR in the case of UK women and girls being abused by the same people when they get here. Pity Labour doesn't give a flying fuck about the women and girls already living here.

AgeingMillennial · 05/10/2026 21:45

So let’s let the rapists accompany them, according to government logic 🤷‍♀️

We bombed/conquered/pillaged over there, that's why. And why cutting spending on aid is a remarkably idiotic thing to do if you pretend to want to curb immigration.

Yes, I agree with her. It's very likely the case unfortunately.

Does she mean raped on the boat whilst it is crossing?

I’m Irish - we didn’t but I don’t see anyone saying oh we won’t go to Ireland because they didn’t invade us. Nor Sweden that never colonised annywhere either. And nobody colonised Ethiopia - but that hasn’t stopped them from coming illegally. Why?

Pr maybe it’s got nothing to do with colonisation and everything to do with their own corrupt and authoritarian governments that are not the fault of Europeans at all.

Sweden never colonised anywhere?! Good grief...

This is why the decent men who try to get to the UK leave their wives and kids at home. As with every section of society there are always men (yes, it's always men) who use their strength and power to hurt women in many ways. We need safe routes, at least for women - but are they any safer here when we see what it's happening to these women once they get here (a lovely friend of mine, born here, had her hijab pulled off by a group of men chanting about her going home. She's a paediatric nurse.)

I would say they're probably safer here than in Eritrea or Afghanistan.

Climate migration will continue to rise - because the world stuck its head in the sand. refugees from wars will continue to rise because greedy power hungry men like war. You can kid yourself we will be immune from having to help with those displaced people if you like but you are only kidding yourself.

Voters will continue to put pressure on politicians. You can kid yourself people will accept millions but you’re only kidding yourself.

Take a look at the direction of politics already.

Good luck with building that wall, or perhaps you are planning to join an "ice" type agency. Either way you sound totally suited to it so enjiy!
