Anyone else seeing LWD Director Viv Pointon’s posts about Sonia Sodha?

Did anyone catch the comments LWD director Viv Pointon made about Sonia Sodha? She’s getting massive backlash online for explicitly targeting Sonia’s heritage and ethnicity.

Just to be 100% clear, I am and remain completely gender-critical— but I did end up leaving the LWD and WRN groups a while ago simply because of how some people, like Viv, were behaving behind the scenes.

The group chats just felt incredibly messy, bitchy, and unmoderated. Instead of being a supportive or organised space, they were frequently filled with general nastiness towards each other, a bizarre amount of hate directed at former Labour MP Rosie Duffield, and some shocking antisemitic comments. Viv herself was often a central part of that unpleasant atmosphere. A lot of the time, it was just constant chatty bullshit rather than anything actually relevant to GC campaign work. There were some bitchy LWD messages that got leaked to a newspaper a few months back. These are grown women behaving like playground bullies. I was going to go to the conference and attend the fringe group, but I decided not to go, though I might watch the videos on YouTube later.

Being in those groups was really eye-opening because it showed me the GC movement isn't 'love all around'. Maybe I was just a bit naive! Even though the core beliefs are massively important, seeing a director behave like that online to Sonia Sodha just reminds me that some people in the movement can end up doing more harm than good with their behaviour.

What does everyone else think?

I agree. Look at that! We've agreed twice. Do let me know if you feel the need to have a lay down in a darkened room with the smelling salts.

I don’t have a problem understanding that people will agree on some things and not others. That seems very much your thing.

Please do explain why Sonia is wrong about Viv's racism?

It's not racist to have a discussion and difference in opinion as to what constitutes English/Englishness/being an English-man or -woman.
Only if you said "only whites can be English" is there an accusation to be made.
That's not what Braverman is saying.
She could be the white, blonde, blue eyed child of Swedish migrants to the UK, she'd <still> argue she isn't English. British-Swedish yes, English no.
You can argue that any discussion of English as an ethnic identity/ethnicity is racist by definition, and thus any narrative that a second generation person born here to foreign parents isn't English, or less English than a child born here to English parents is racist.
Standard operating procedure for those who see any expression of English as a deeper more tangible ethnicity than the pure civ-nat proceedural ID that is British.

Yes. Ashkenazi Jews, for example, have higher rates of certain health conditions (the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations are more common, among others). It seems pointless to pretend that that isn't the case, because this type of knowledge is incredibly useful.

But having those mutations is not an indication of being an Ashkenazi Jew.

UK hotspots for haemochromatosis are interesting, but they tell a more complicated story than English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh.

Sickle cell anaemia is linked to living in areas where malaria is present because having just one copy of the gene is protective against malaria.

Human populations have always stayed in the same place for a time and then moved somewhere else and genetic traits are passed on.

However, no matter how much they move around, they don't change sex.

People from the Outer Hebrides and north-west Ireland have the highest risk of developing a genetic disease that causes a dangerous build-up of iron in the body, a study suggests.

Oh I don’t know. The trans-friendly Greens have made racism party policy.

Looking forwards to the first Polanski interview where he's asked if the two-state solution is still what he prefers, he says yes, and to be confirmed to him that's contra to Green policy making him a racist as per the motion passed at conference.
Clown car politics.

I’m looking forward to the calls for trans activists to ‘publicly challenge and disown’ the Green Party in order to distance themselves from racists.

Looking forwards to the interview that takes in the broad sweep of his new approach to politics, from his hypnotherapy claims on bra sizes, to his thoughts on the police apprehending Jew killers, to his organisation on paying council tax at his houseboat, to calling Jewish members of his own party and most Jews in the UK as racist.
Doesn't strike me as the master plan to break the mould of British politics, more how to break the Green Party.
At least the anti Semites in the UK have a safe space in his party.

Of course not. I was just trying to make the point that sometimes thinking about ethnicity in terms of genetic similarities can be useful - if you're an Ashkenazi Jew it's incredibly helpful to know that you are more at risk of certain disorders.

And obviously yes, there's no similarity with biological sex, which is extremely clear-cut. There are only two sexes, and you're either one or the other.

I do not really get involved or spend too much time but what I do know is there are a lot of people who know that sex exists that are complete numpties, some are horrible and some are backstabbing, some are racist, some hate marmite and some do not like crisp eating on trains.

We cannot control all the other behaviours of people around us so call them out or walk away.

Exactly. Most groups of people include some good, some bad and some weird. Some we like and some we wouldn't choose as friends.

What gender critical people have in common is our refusal to pretend we believe humans can change sex, our commitment to restoring women's single-sex rights, and our opposition to children being persuaded they were 'born in the wrong body'. As long as we're all defending women's and children's rights, I'm not that concerned with their other opinions.

It's absolutely racist when the entire point is to frame non-white people as not English. That is the inference.

Well at least you're honest, I suppose.

I'm seeing trans activists in the Green Party as really objectionable, but the fact they've voted to become officially an anti Semitic and racist party really doesn't mean I dislike them any more. I'm more weary of their childish antics, but their objectional nature is at max already as trans activists.
Your problem is that you see any discussion of English as ethnicity that some feel is an issue with the children born here of migrants as inherently racist, and somehow using that to besmirch GCs.

I'm pretty sure my problem here is with racism. But thank you for explaining what my problem is, Marc. Always a pleasure when one is reminded just how mansplainy some of you can be.

anyolddinosaur · Yesterday 20:46

Ultimately we all came here from Africa, some a lot more recently than others.

Very few people are saints and certainly not those involved in politics. OP could not possibly be that naïve.

So this is another lets label all GC people as racists or insist they virtue signal by claiming not to be. OP's definition of racism is not mine. My definition of racist is a person who believes that one race is superior to another, or someone who treats people unfairly because of their race, skin colour, or ethnic background. OP is trying to insist that everyone must be treated as identical when clearly they are not. I regard that as offensive. You can recognise difference without wanting to treat someone unfairly because of it. But insisting someone is racist because they dont share your virtue signalling definition or your view of ethnicity - that makes you a bigot.

edit to remove random asterisks.

I’d probably say I might be ‘concerned’ about their opinions in the same way I’d be concerned, or not, with anyone else’s opinions. Not in relation to what that says about being GC though. It’s all a bit “Hitler was a vegetarian” level of thinking.

But that's the whole point of this thread. The accusation that this person is racist for not accepting children born here of migrants as English.
If you're going to make this accusation, or support the accusation, then any reply to the contrary from me is going to draw the same criticism.
Btw, when other trans IDing men come on here to explain what in their opinion GC women get wrong about women's rights, do you accuse them of mansplaining?
Y'know, just for consistency sake.
