Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Gosh, the tension rises another notch! 😬

As for where we all are, speaking personally I've spent most of the day following the RCN tribunal and now I'm ready for bed.

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/09/2026 15:57

Good for you, Wumman.

Thank you. I have survived. I think that it did help.

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2026 07:21

Morning all. Feeling blah at the moment, which explains where I was yesterday. (Actually I was watching classic Horrible Histories, being about my mental level)
Despite the temperature, at least some wildlife clearly knows it's autumn - there's a moderately large house spider on the bathroom ceiling, I noticed him watching me cleaning my teeth just now. Large pedipalps, so I'm fairly sure he's a he.

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2026 08:53

Morning all, bore da agus maidin maith.
I missed a lot of yesterday - spare moments following the RCN trib, chasing up trades, one of whom didn't arrive as planned, fortunately his job wasn't crucial to the careful choreography but I was really frustrated trying to chase people up and ended up with a migraine. Classic reaction to fristrating complicated stuff😟

So sorry if I'm missing things you posted yesterday, the only things I noticed properly were Woley's pelican and Myrtle's cute ceramic gerbil!

Now I'm also unpleasantly aware of Magpie's spider, I wish you had a pelican or a cute ceramic gerbil on your ceiling instead, Magpie😱

I feel happier about the Gerbil Three, now that Myrtle has shown up with a clipboard - a calming and encouraging sight✔Smile

I've just remembered that Deano reported having a bad cold - a bouquet of medicinal plants to you and other suffering Stockingers.Flowers

And Mr Pasta Snr is home, hurrah.

Sorry the rest from yesterday at the Bluey is a bit of a blur!

Morning all! It’s just shifted from rain to bright sun here so I should get up and doing rather than honing my skills in procrastination.
Should… I’ve a big mug of tea to finish first….

Tea and sympathy to all ill or injured FlowersBrew
(or beverage of your choice obvs)

Chersfrozenface · 01/10/2026 09:34

Bore da bawb! I am not ill or injured, but I do have a minor, nay miniscule, complaint.

I very rarely go out of an evening when at home, but tonight I've been roped into a pub quiz team. And overnight I've developed a spot, on the tip of my nose. A spot! I'm bloody ancient!

Still, I suppose it's one way of reliving my youth.

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2026 09:53

A pelican on the ceiling might be quite intrusive, @MarieDeGournay

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2026 09:55

Exhibit A.

Exhibit A.

Yeah, fair nuff - but what if it held a lightbulb in its beak? that would be both beautiful and useful.
It would be an LED one of course, so no risk of electrocution or overheating to the pelican.
I've talked myself into wanting an upside-down-pelican-lamp in MY bathroom😁

I don't know if that's cute or creepy, but I like it!

Am just about following the final submissions on the Peggie thread, dipping in and out while doing other things. Just stopped in for a hot chocolate with cream, please, bar gerbils. And a cinnamon biscuit.

For some reason, they're doing roadworks outside and I can't hear myself think! Filling potholes, one can hope. Time for the headphones!

I’m not sure I want to ask what a magpie is doing with a toothbrush. Confused

EmpressaurusKitty · 01/10/2026 16:33

I was thinking that Gosie’s adventures would work best as a TV series. Women everywhere settling down to watch & every episode ending with a cliffhanger.

The toothpaste tube says Beakbrush, which is probably about right. AI decided that, not me.

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2026 17:54

I saw an albino squirrel today. Clearly totally unfazed by my presence, clambering along a fence line quite happily, focused on something I couldn't identify but probably food.
I've also been bitten again! Three bites on my arm, that must have happened at work. Little sods.

(That's the mozzies, not my students)

(Although some of my students are also little sods)

Boiledbeetle · 01/10/2026 18:15

I am so far behind! I still haven't finished reading the thread before the last thread!

Glenda: double cheeseburger , triple cooked chips and a gerkin please. And a large full fat Coke with ice. I'll be in the library reading past editions.

EmpressaurusKitty · 01/10/2026 18:55

Kitty is practising watching from hidden places.

We've just had an amazing sunset but, by the time I had found my phone to take a photo (left in the car), it had gone dark.

That's the trouble with sunsetsConfused

I used to groom Corby (young rook who fell out of the nest before he'd fledged) with a toothbrush. He loved it, he'd stretch out his wings and I'd gently dampen and straighten his feathers so that he'd be able to fly safely.

Awww that's lovely Deano!

  • *Was there only one Corby? They usually come in Twas, don't they😄 Did he fly away safely in the end?

I've spent the day divided between the RCN trib - an amazing tour-de-force summing up by NC - and chasing up trades.

How is it going in Oz, Woley? I had a very bizarre thought earlier today:
'I wonder is Mr Woley sleeping OK now', it was such a bizarre thought that I laughed at myself for thinking it.
When you parse it, it is a very strange thing for me to be concerned about - how a perfect stranger in Australia is sleeping! - but that's the Bluey for you, isn't it? 💙

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2026 20:29

Good news: no spider on the bathroom ceiling tonight.
Bad news: no inverted pelican on the bathroom ceiling either.

I've just had a shower without company and am quite pleased about this.

Spider is under the air fryer in my kitchen.

Are you sure? Apparently there's one in Jr Master Magpie's precarious book stack now.

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2026 20:48

I'm getting twitchy just reading your spdr- related posts😱

I nipped back over to the RCN thread and noticed that Myrtle has referenced some 'things' going on - I hope you're OK Myrtle and sorting those things outFlowers
