Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Not sure how long this will last …..
Until someone spots a squirrel I suspect.

Wow what an image!

Well worth waiting for, thank you!

Kitty’s leading the gerbil choir in a congratulations song.

Thank you. As predicted some pheasants and a rabbit were imagined seen through the open pub door and the beautifully poised pyramid of girls lost the plot and collapsed as quickly as an argument for letting men into The Blue Stocking.

Congratulations, Myrtle!
That’s wonderful news. I’m so pleased to read it.

You’re now working out how to celebrate, but all the options are good ones and what a grand situation to be in.

It good that you have seen the team as well, and they have ‘met’ you.

Joyousness and general rejoicing!

Do everything sooner, that way when you are panicking about not being ready for starting work you don't have other plans taking up headspace.

You want bland boring weeks leading up to work. A nice empty head. Not loads of shit jumping around in thers going me!Me!me! Pay attention to this completely irrelevant thing.

Wise words. Sounds like you have some experience of ADHD yourself!

Can someone crank up the jukebox as I've just heard rumours that Gubbins has written a special 3 hour celebratory triangle solo in honour of @MyrtleLion new job.

Wish I could have snoozed my way through this afternoon.

Ah, Ganache, how kind of you to keep a slice aside for me. Your very good health, Myrtle.

So, do you want the Gosie episode now with 34 replies left?

Do you know what?! It's my getting a brand new job day, so I am going to START THE NEXT THREAD NOW with Gosie's latest episode.

Because otherwise Gosie will get left behind or I'll end up posting the episode when I'm drunk on champagne.

@NotAtMyAge that's lovely though sad of course that she died so soon after retiring. I have cutlery received by my parents as a wedding gift in 1954. Very non-PC as it has (discoloured) ivory handles, I use it when baking. And I have just acquired my recently passed MiL's mixing bowls so I think of them every time I open the baking drawer and cupboards.

I have a rolling pin that belonged to my late MIL - much bigger and heavier than standard ones. I think of her every time I use it.

I have my grandmother’s vegetable knife, which is still sharp. I think of her every time I use it, too.

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/10/2026 18:21

I’ll start packing up the crafting room.

My FIL thought that you might appreciate this from the farm butchery:

YUM!
Brains! Brains! NO!

Boiledbeetle · 13/10/2026 18:25

<Commandeers four gerbils>

I'll be cleaning the cellar before we leave. Just leave an empty open van by the back door I'll chuck all the junk in and drop it off at the tip on the way to the next thread.

Gaynor you're on tea cakes
Gladys snowballs
Gwen caramel wafers
And Greta you take the Caramel logs.

If anyone asks they are out of date and off to the tip.

Boiledbeetle · 13/10/2026 18:27

I have some of my mum and dad's wedding presents - the Crystal glasses, finally out of their 1960s boxes and in my cupboard. And the Kenwood mixer they got.

Ditto.
Things get done if I write them down, or do them instantly.
Otherwise...

As for Old Stuff in Use, I'm the 4th generation of the family to use the kitchen scales. We still have the half-ounce weight.

If I have to write a list it's the absolute must do TODAY no pissing about list, otherwise the list just starts to go on and on and on.
