Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Morning all (only just!)

I've just finished the 5th Strike and Ellacott novel so there is a slight chance I might be actually useful today.

I'm looking for something to do with Gosie, & in poking around on that there internet I found this image from a previous thread, so I'm sitting here with one of these - & very nice it is, too..

I tried asking the AI about Gosie, & I got this...

Hah!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/10/2026 13:09

Anyway, my question about Gosie is, does she wear jewellery? Is there something which she always wears, which marks her out from every other gerbil?

AsWithGlad · 11/10/2026 13:10

Goodness Gracious Me! AI credits me with writing the Gosie stories?

AI may produce accurate pictures but its truthfulness has a long way to go.

I know! I realised this when I once asked it the same question 3 times & got 'Yes', 'No' & 'Maybe' as the responses.

There isn't enough salt in the world for all the pinches needed.

That's a Chocolate Magpie if memory serves. Glad you're enjoying it!

I remember watching a sci fi programme on TV when I was much younger.

A visitor to some far off planet asked one of its inhabitants their name.
The reply was,”We don’t have names. We know who we are.”

I think it’s a similar situation with Gosie. Gerbils and Bluestocking residents instinctively recognise her.

I’m not sure if that’s true of all gerbils, but it may well be. 🐹

an 'imaginary online' women's pub.

we don't imagine it to be online. We are online. It isn't. Except in our imaginations. The wording hovers somewhere between confusing and outright wrong.

Ah, thank you - now I can ask for it by name. I had to show the bargerbil the picture & that destroyed what little coolth I still have.

Is there a Chocolate Android drink? A Chocolate Tractor would go down well at the Bluey, although as soon as you put 'chocolate' in front of any word, it begins to sound like it's in the Urban Dictionary.

It is a Chocolate Magpie, and here's stage 1 of how to make one.
Stage 2 involves a firm shove from behind.....Grin

One of the offspring is dealing with heartbreak today.

It never gets easier, seeing your kid upset, does it? No matter what age.

Could we send a Chocolate Magpie and a tub of ice cream over to his seat at the Staunch Ally, please?

EdithStourton · 11/10/2026 14:36

Hare Valley yesterday: one hare, seen several times - the little rusty one. She seems to have worked out that B&B won't chase her, so hops off 15 or 20 yards and watches. If we carry on heading her way, she increases the distance, cautious but not scared.

There were lots of young pheasants along the stream, who are currently completely clueless. It was a good exercise in self control for B&B.

There were also several coveys of partridges, who are not clueless (unless there is something the matter with them, when they seem to hunker down and wait to die). When they saw the dogs, the coveys splintered off in assorted directions.

There was also a buzzard, shouting its head off and scaring the pigeons. And long-tailed tits chattering the hedge.

May I please introduce the latest addition to the Bluestocking? Boudicca. She's not as brave yet as her namesake, but I'm sure she will be. Also please ignore the dust, she was hiding down the side of the bed and my cleaning does not extend to moving beds.

Kitty would like to invite Boudicca to join her in the catnip patch.

Dust? What dust?

None of us see any dust, do we ladies??

We just see a beautiful kitty 😻

I'm firmly of the opinion that dust is best left undisturbed. It's when it's airborne that you have problems, so why move it once it's settled?

Thehorticulturalhussie · 11/10/2026 15:15

Good afternoon all and welcome to Boudica, I hope that she settles in.
No weather here today, just grey but we had a lovely walk, 4 women and 7 dogs. One of us lost her husband very suddenly last month and so we're doing our best to get her out of the house every couple of days. It's been lovely to see how many people in the village are offering help of all kinds, most people are good when it matters.
Lots of deer out in the fields, still dumb but very pretty. I lost count of the kites and buzzards there are so many. A buzzard took a rook very close to our house a few days ago and the outrage of the colony was quite something.
We have nuthatches here for the first time in months and a song thrush visiting the pond.
Bar gerbils could I please have a large Vintner's Virago with sparklers, thank you, I'll take it in the bath.
I hope that the daytime and evening drinkers are bright eyed and bushy tailed now. If not please have a hair of my dog, there's plenty to go round.

I must have those special glasses that conceal dust and dirt, it's the only possible explanation for the niche microenvironments thriving behind sofas and under beds.

For now...but Stage 3 is 'Place in freezer overnight'😄

Boudicca is absolutely beautiful, Rum, I'm happy to welcome another Celt to the Bluey💙

RumNotRun · 11/10/2026 15:55

Thank you all. I'm sure when Boudicca feels settled enough she would love to join Kitty for some catnip. She's slowly making her way around my room, sticking to all the hidden bits. I feel like she's inspecting the standard of my housework 😁 Greta may want to stay away from my room for now. I don't know how Boudicca feels about gerbils yet!
