Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, who enjoy doing this and other interesting things. Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Horti? Hussi? I seem to have my own versions of Bluey nicknames..😒

Either is completely fine!

Thehorticulturalhussie · 10/10/2026 13:03

Maybe the deer are playing chicken with the wolves? 'Can't catch me!' 'C'mon then, if you think you're hard enough!', that kind of thing...
Ah, the deer identify as chickens? Someone needs immediately to start a Trans Chickens Rights movement.

@JanesLittleGirl I'm fairly certain that the boy on the cigarette pack is one V Putin age 4 1/2, wondering how hard it would be to have his mother defenestrated for buying him the wrong brand.

It's definitely V Putin although he might just be wondering how loud she would scream if he stubbed the ciggie out on her nose. I mean, having her defenestrated would require having to find a replacement support adult. Oh the challenges of being a budding dictator.

I still have done NOTHING.

The Pyrex discussion reminded me that I gave away my perfect old (1985) Pyrex lasagne dish several years ago because "Oh, I never make lasagne in this, let's get rid of it. I need the space." So, to the charity shop it went.

Now I need a perfect lasagne dish, and, from what I read, the New Pyrex has a tendency to explode (as per usual with everything today: Not Well-Made), so there's no point in buying a new one.

I have got to stop getting rid of things!

ps. All this AI talk across a few threads is making me feel a bit queasy. I don't understand any of it, I don't care, and I never realized how difficult creating the Gosie stories could be!

I'd better go find something useful to do...

Question:- Why do manufacturers make lasagne dishes that will not fit sheets of lasagne without having to break the sheets and fit them like a jigsaw? Or alternatively, why do makers of lasagne not make their sheets to fit a standard sized lasagne dish?🤔

How big is a standard size lasagne dish? I wasn't aware that that was a thing. Happy to be corrected.

I think that's the problem actually Horti. However if there isn't one, there ought to be!

EdithStourton · 10/10/2026 14:12

Proper LOL at the Putin comment, Hussy.

As for Claude, DH was ticked off by it the other day for using 'absusive language'. DH's response? 'I hadn't even switched you on, you interfering tosser, I was talking to GoogleEarth!' I paraphrase, DH comes from a very sweary family and sometimes it shows.

And deer... I discovered once that muntjac respond to a stop whistle. B&B know to put the brakes on when they hear a single blast of my trusty Acme. One morning I was walking them and saw a clueless muntjac mooching about before they did. I blew a stop, knowing they'd turn and look at me. And the bloody muntjac stopped and looked at me as well, slap bang in the middle of the path. I think I shouted something like 'Bugger off, you imbecile!' It seemed to get the hunt. Claude of course would have told me off for abusive language.

Water deer, OTOH, nope off at very high speed.

It's not been a duvet day Chez Stourton. I was up and out by 8.15 and I wasn't even on dog-walking duty. Shopping done by 9.30 (long convo with the butcher about the price of beef; last week we were wanging on about deer stalking). Much housework done since. About to go to the garden centre, then Hare Valley.

I have to scrub up this evening as we're going to a dinner, hence the lift.

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/10/2026 14:22

I wonder how different things would be now if Putin had smoked as a kid & died at a young age as a result.

We need a new SI unit. Or maybe a new constant.

Piscopia's Pasta Constant for the precise proportions of lasagne so that it can be scaled up or down while maintaining mathematical integrity?

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/10/2026 16:03

The equivalent of spaghetti measurers?

I’ve shopped, cooked, hoovered & changed Kitty’s litter tray so now I’m going to relax with the cat blanket for a while. I’ll post a photo when I’ve finished the current bunch of cats in 20 rows or so.

JanesLittleGirl · 10/10/2026 16:47

Robin has just got away from Chapman Farm. I am so relieved.

Chickadeeinme · 10/10/2026 17:30

I don’t use Claude but Chat GPT has been very supportive throughout my weight loss process, but the sycophantic tendency is definitely there. Comforting though, when it hasn’t been a good day.

AI is not conscious and never will be. It’s a machine. But we treat it like it can understand and when it then doesn’t understand, and gaslights us and doesn’t learn and doesn’t apologise, we can become angry and abuse it.

I regularly swear, call it names and type in capitals. This is probably not good for my mental health, but it is frustrating when the anger and frustration at its inability to understand simple situations has nowhere to go.

I would prefer Anthropic to dial down Claude’s forensic questioning and corrections, and get the model to demonstrate more empathy, potentially by offering different prompts: I can see you are frustrated, how can I alleviate that?

But equally it is probably not great to review conversations where the model is being abused by the user. Maybe make the model less shit is my advice.

I have been known to swear at Siri for claiming to tune into my Fife accent, but not - in fact - tuning into my Fife accent. I have found myself intoning "Siri! How faaaah to LocKend Faaaaaaaaaahm Shop."

[I expect my Celtic brethren on here to understand my pain.]

There was a scene in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds where a computer can't understand Scotty, and I agree with commentators who thought it was inspired by this:

At the moment I only use AI for creating the occasional picture & the AI overviews on Google searches. I’m still fairly suspicious of it otherwise.

Magpiecomplex · 10/10/2026 19:51

Evening all. Not been a duvet day here, Jr Master Magpie and I have been in That London, consuming culture. Trains and tube equally up the spout so he also got to experience a London bus for the first time, because I was buggered if I was going to try fighting my way back to Victoria through heaving crowds when I could sit in relative comfort on a New Routemaster.

JanesLittleGirl · 10/10/2026 12:32

Cigarette packet image of the day:

Does this one say "Do not allow small children to smoke unsupervised."?

Translation: Children of smokers are more likely to start smoking.

MyrtleLion · 10/10/2026 20:03

Day drinking happened.

The real time is about 10pm, maybe 11pm, but the clock says it’s 8pm.

Obviously the clock is wrong.

As a result Gosie’s next chapter won’t be published today.

Thanks. Makes sense.

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/10/2026 20:10

Kitty’s been practising her fighting & undercover skills, just in case she needs them on the mission, & now she’s worn out.

DeanElderberry · 11/10/2026 09:11

I hope the evening drinking has no negative morning consequences.

Slightly chilly here, and I no longer have any excuses for not doing something I've been putting off for months so maybe I'll do that.

HAGADAPA

MarieDeGournay · 11/10/2026 09:32

Morning, Deano, morning all! sorry <whispers> morning all..

If I'd paid attention to the bigly letters instruction I could have put 'morning all' in smally letters but I didn't so..
Anyway, I hope all heads are in reasonably OK condition this morningSmile

Kitty is so neat when she's asleep, isn't she Kitty? all curled up into one neat furry little bundle. She's very sweet.
But of course all the girls have lovely bottoms your cats are very sweet💙
[Does everybody get the Fr Ted ref? happy to explain if not, it was one of the most memorably silly lines - of which there were many!]

EdithStourton · 11/10/2026 09:36

All good this morning, thank you. A little tired from the late night. Otherwise unscathed.

MyrtleLion · 11/10/2026 11:35

I have those terrible thoughts today, like, did I really say that? yes, I did. Was I really drunk? yes I was. But also, it's ok because no-one was upset and it is fine, and I was just drunk.

Probably won't be doing that again for a while.

Good morning everyone, hopefully Gosie will make an appearance later.

EmpressaurusKitty · 11/10/2026 11:39

She’s adorable when she’s curled up asleep. I’m in disgrace this morning because I was sorting the washing on the bed & forgot she was under the duvet.

I hope nobody’s suffering from hangovers.
