Schoolgirls have been left "in tears" after a controversial new uniform rule was enforced at the start of the school year, with furious parents claiming some pupils were stopped from attending lessons.

The row has erupted after Co-op Academies Trust introduced a trousers-only policy across its secondary schools from September.
Some families have refused to accept the change, with pupils at Co-op Academy Failsworth in Oldham arriving for their first day back on Wednesday wearing skirts.

Parents claim that a number of Year 11 girls were not allowed into class, with other pupils affected when they returned on Thursday.

The policy also applies at Co-op Academy Walkden, Co-op Academy Swinton, Co-op Academy North Manchester, Co-op Academy Manchester and Co-op Academy Belle Vue.

I think the head teacher should be forced to go shopping for school trousers with 10 different girls who are completely different shapes to see what a nightmare it is to find girls' school trousers that fit

Obviously, not actually. But you get the point.

Wonder if the people bringing in the rule are mostly men?

In tears..... Jesus Christ, woman up.

FGS, I would imagine this is an attempt at 'equality' - of course it never occurs to them that they could let both sexes wear either skirts or trousers.

In tears!!!!

lol

There was a thread on here by a mum the other week about just this, bemoaning lack of choice for the girls, like a uniform has lots of choice in the first place

Hopefully most parents will see sense or simply remove their kids somewhere else.

Maybe, because they're probably sick of girls rolling up their skirts so you can see their arses, being accused of looking, not daring to mention anything, flashes of knickers etc

Trousers make everything easier

And also it means the boys that pretend to be girls will also be wearing trousers, and can't be "validated" with gender stereotypes, so that's a win.

No it's an attempt to not have girls showing their arses and knickers off every day.

Yes that is whats meant by seeing sense. Get them in the trousers and send them to school.

Why on earth do girls have to look like boys? They are not boys and if they like skirts, what’s wrong with skirts? Heads should be concerned with improving education, not dictating all girls wear trousers!

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/09/2026 17:42

So in the summer they will wear shorts? Where the hell can you buy girls school shorts in grey flannel? the crotch will be all wrong and wont fit a womans body?

No, they'll wear trousers.

Like boys had to for decades...

Do boys wear shorts in the summer?

Trousers by the way are not male attire, they're just trousers.

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/09/2026 17:46

Well that would be fine if men and women responded to heat stress i n the same way..... however, due to biology, they dont!! Women sweat less and find it more difficult to cool down naturally than men. Therefore girls will suffer more from wearing trousers in the summer time than boys will, which will impact their learning.

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/09/2026 17:48

Newsflash! Male and female bodies are different! Trousers are absolutely fine in the winter but to wear cotton flannel trousers in the summer, for girls, is a health risk which doesnt impact boys the same way, or they would have ensured that they wore shorts for the last 100 years!

Bloody hell thats a reach.

Is there anything that women and girls cant be made out to be victims?

Its one uniform for around 6 hours of the week day max and only applies during the summer really.

Heat stress now.

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/09/2026 17:49

My child wears cotton flannel trousers as complusory school uniform.....

A pair of trousers is making no difference, otherwise women all over wearing trousers would be collapsing.

Trousers are default men’s clothes. Once again, “unisex” means something male that women are allowed to have. Funny how it never works the other way!

BadSkiingMum · 07/09/2026 17:52

I think schools should have a choice of long skirts or trousers as a uniform, with tailored knee-length shorts as a summer option for both sexes.

A midi length (mid calf) skirt with an elasticated back and an adjustable wrapover front panel would solve most size/shape problems and probably last a couple of years on most girls.

The skirt-rolling phenomenon is ridiculous and I am not surprised that schools are fed up with it.

Or just buy trousers. It isn’t about looking good, it’s about putting some clothes on and going to school.
