IwantToRetire · 31/08/2026 00:48

Today was another Parkrun Saturday and like every weekend the achievements by women was demoted by men running in the female category.

We are hoping to change this! In only a few weeks time, we will debut Reality Rules Runners UK at Parkrun. We hope that many hundreds (hopefully thousands) of you will join us to send a clear and strong statement to Parkrun about the huge support there is for fairness and sex-based categories at their events.

All sports events are responsible for putting on fair events. This includes free, volunteer run, community events like Parkrun.

So please tell people about Reality Rules Runners UK, as we are hoping to attract lots more supporters before our debut at Parkrun on 3 October.

Thank you! 🙏

I really came on here mainly to explain the mechanics of the protest. If you feel strongly then you could join it. They have a substack and a twitter account you can follow for full instructions for the week of 3rd October. I’ve been thinking to myself whether people who feel strongly the other way could or should make their own parkrun running group to counter it. I do think it is hard to come up with reasoned arguments to support self identity into gender catagories without taking into account feelings. If you do away with catagories altogether then only young men can compare their performances really.

I wouldn’t want to be run director if a protesting group turned up to my event which ever side of the issue they were protesting against.

Me neither, but there is a very real possibility that the organisation will face a legal challenge on the grounds that they are discriminating against women by treating them less favourably because of their sex (regardless of how they identify).

Nobody is arguing that trans people shouldn't be able to take part. Just that the data given to women should have as much integrity as the data given to men. It's very clear that people do value being at the top of their category, and the expectation should be that accurate data is provided.

Either sex is important and it is relevant to everyone, or it isn't important and we can ignore it. It is important to sports.

@Rollingpinofdoom OK, but I am not stereotyping all trans people as being like that. I know not all gender critical women are like it as I am one myself.

@AimsAndObjectives from my point of view there would be nothing wrong with that. I can understand though that some trans people don’t want be outed and feel strongly that they want to be recognised by their self identified gender and they believe in gender ideology so would feel unwelcome in this scenario.

Edited

If people can’t bear to be recognised as the sex they are, that’s something they need to take up with Mother Nature and/or get some therapy to come to terms with.

They can’t expect the rest of us to keep pretending that they are something other than they are.

So you think that, when a truly Female category is offered, all the 'trans inclusive' women will just abandon their trans 'sisters' and register for the Female category instead of the Open? Interesting.

I think I am going to drop the rope here. I fundamentally agree with you guys but am getting such a hard time. God help anyone who actually disagrees with you. Lots of great points made. Good luck to parkrun as this rumbles on.

As much as anything they will be outed by the publication of the results - the strangely fit but slow man and the woman who mysteriously lacks any previous form but beats the rest of the field.

and feel strongly that they want to be recognised by their self identified gender and they believe in gender ideology so would feel unwelcome in this scenario.

And other people do not want to be categorised by gender at all and believe the whole concept is oppressive, and until about 10 years ago, that was bog standard feminism.

Yes, any argument in favour of the status quo has to be emotional. It cannot stand up to logical reasoning.

You may fundamentally agree with us, but it's a bit galling to be told 'you're right, but please STFU about it, because men are going to kick off'.

No?

You may fundamentally agree with us, but it's a bit galling to be told 'you're right, but please STFU about it, because men are going to kick off'.

No?

Yes. The only logical argument made was that transactivists would kick off more than women (see “Lauren” Jeska for an example of this) and it wouldn’t be fair on the volunteers.

The long and the short of this is that there’s a clash between the feelings of a tiny number of unreasonable men and the reasonable feelings of frustration women experience that those men’s demands have been prioritised for some time and were introduced without discussion or any consideration for women.

The only way to end this is for everyone to stand firm, point out the fact that the demands those men are making are not reasonable, and put an end to it.

There will be tantrums undoubtedly, but that is the only way it will finally end, because most people recognize one side is making a fair and reasonable request and the other is making a demand that will permanently disrupt everything until it is put to bed.

The fact that the medical community and many large, multinational organizations have bought into the men’s demands gives them power, but still no reasonable right to what they have already taken.

If you know nothing about parkrun (an apolitical, free, fun run NOT race) why have you come straight here to spread vitriol and try and spoil it for those that love it?

As someone who runs every week, could not care less about what other people around me are doing or how they identify, everyone is there for a run and a bit of company

My local park run is Bushy Park, try standing on the start line there and say its just a non competitive fun run. The first 100 or so runners (men and women) absolutely smash it around the course as fast as they can and are looking to beat their peers/win their category. You then have the midfield runners who just want to improve on their personal time and maybe benchmark themselves against their age and sex category and then you get the back of the field pushing buggies, dogs on a lead, walking and chatting and thats cool as well. The beauty of ParkRun was that it catered for all, you could be an elite high performance runner or a casual jogger. Why cant women runners have access to non corrupted result data? Why should a bloke be able to use the event as vehicle of affirmation?

Wishesandhorses · Today 14:58

So 'middle ground' essentially turns out to be 'give men with gender identities everything they demand, while saying 'it's a bit sad for women, but oh well', and expecting those women to shut up and not mind because 'empathy'.

(For men, who have absolutely no care whatsoever for them, or respect, or empathy, or anything else.)

And being reproachful about women who don't do the shutting up/submissiveness naicely and keep arguing back about it.

And: women should care that poor volunteers might have to deal with men and activists unpleasant behaviours, and cede everything to protect the volunteers, but the men and activists..... what? Just crack on? Are beyond reasonability or hope? Don't need to care or behave, or lack the capacity? What's with the double standard there?

This is turning out to be a very sexist and problematic 'middle ground', isn't it? I have to say, I'm not getting it.

Yes.

Let's be honest about the real issue here.

What is the actual problem, with women's top results and scores being recorded for biological women?

It's that a man with a gender identity has something present in his space that reminds him of the reality that he is not a biological woman.

I fully understand that may be difficult for him. But ffs, does that seriously outweigh the interests of every female?

What is it that makes him more valuable?

"This gave him the motivation to go ahead with a plan he had been mulling for a while: a social time trial over 5 kilometres held every week, primarily for club runners but open to anyone who wanted to come along. Despite disbelief from many of his clubmates about its viability, the inaugural Bushy Park Time Trial took place on October 2nd 2004, with 13 runners and finished in a slightly-contrived dead-heat between Ranelagh Harriers’ Chris Owens and Matt Morgan in 18:47. There were no barcodes, no finish tokens, no marshals, just two volunteers, a stopwatch and some number-punched washers to be handed out for finishing positions."

Obviously Parkrun has expanded beyond this, but to argue that its ethos is non competitive is ridiculous.

parkrun is not even competitive. Clearly you transphobic lot are just fing stupid. Don’t you have something better to be focusing on in your life? Clearly not. God you must be bored and have such a boring life, to be campaigning for sht like this.

honestly you people are f*ed. I am a cis woman and I literally don’t care, if there are “‘men running in the female category” because even if this were true, who cares?

i don’t care because I’m not an annoying tradwife bigot, I actually have a life lol.

Quite. And all incredulous bad faith actors on X claiming that its just a fun run and not the olympics so whats the big deal can just fuck off frankly. I'm tired of this shit. I row competitively and have fought very hard to get British Rowing to change their polices on transwomen competiting with biological women and Im just fed up with armchair activists shitting on sportswomen (grassroots amateurs and elite) all to accommodate the feelings and egos of mediocre male athletes.

Oh god here we go. 🙄

And no, men shouldn’t be in women’s categories. Men have their own categories.

Parkrun is not competitive! All this would make sense in competitive sports but why the sudden focus on parkrun? Why can’t you just admit all this is based around transphobia? And if JKR has never piped up about all this you never would’ve thought about it, would you?

Why do some people feel the need to come onto a primarily female website, search out a subsection of a section that deals with feminism and specific female concerns, and then insult the (mainly) women on those threads?

If Parkrun isn’t competitive, why does it publish results by category? It could always just … not do that.

And yes of course, women actually really love men muscling in on their single sex spaces and services. If only JKR hadn’t radicalised us all 🤯

It is a time trial that publishes each person's results in time order on a website and emails statistical data to each participant allowing them to compare their result to other runners, unless they are women.

If it were not competitive it would not do any of this.

Well that escalated.

Transwomen are men, and no amount of foot stamping, mental acrobatics, bad faith circular arguments, lady brains, lady feelz, or shouting transphobe or bigot is going to change that. Its not 2018 any more and people these days do not fear saying 'no' to cry bullies.
